From Losing a Leg to Breaking a World Record (w/ Sam Grewe Tokyo 2020 High Jump Gold Medalist)

When Sam Grewe was 13 years old, he was diagnosed with bone cancer. He spent the next two years in the hospital undergoing treatment, including the amputation of his leg. Just two years later, Sam had won his first World Championship title as a High-Jumper on the U.S. Paralympic Track & Field Team. Now, in his 7th year on the team, Sam has won 3 World Championship titles, set a new World Record, and won a Gold Medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Outside of athletics, Sam is a medical student at the University of Michigan, motivated by his own personal experiences as a cancer patient.

Dr. Charlie Weingroff's Training = Rehab Method Explained

Charlie is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a Certified Athletic Trainer, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  He was most recently the Director of Physical Performance and Resiliency and Lead Physical Therapist for the United States Marines Corps Special Operations Command in Camp Lejeune, NC.  He is also Director of Clinical Education for the Vibraflex Whole-Body Vibration and Andante Medical, the makers of the SmartStep, mobile force plate.  He graduated from Ursinus College with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science in 1996, and went on to earn an MSPT in 1999 and DPT in 2010 from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Prior to returning to his home state of New Jersey in the Fall of 2006 after 12 seasons of professional basketball, he was the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach and Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA.   Among the highlights of his tenure in Philadelphia was being part of the medical staff that ranked 1st in the NBA in Player Missed Games in the 2005-06 season.

Through rehabbing patients, he subscribes to a movement-based approach popularized by the works of Dr. Vladimir Janda, Dr. Shirley Sahrmann, Dr. Stuart McGill, and Gray Cook.  In training athletes and clients, he champions the principles of the Functional Movement Screen and sound, evidence-based training principles.  Some of the methodologies Charlie is formally trained in include DNS, ART, Dry Needling, Graston, FMS/SFMA, and the RKC.

Aside from working with patients, athletes and clients, he is also under the bar himself.  In 2007, he achieved AAPF Elite status in the 220 weight class with a total of 1915 pounds. His best powerlifting competition total is 800 squat, 510 bench press and 605 deadlift.

Currently Charlie is training and rehabbing clients of all types at Drive495 in Manhattan, NYC and Fit For Life in Marlboro, NJ.  Charlie often teaches and speaks internationally and consults regularly with Nike, the Roddick-Lavalle Tennis Academy, Perform Better, and Equinox Fitness Clubs.

Ami B. Bhatt, MD, FACC is the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) of the American College of Cardiology, beginning in January 2022. As CIO, Bhatt will provide leadership and expertise in health care innovation and continue to grow the College's comprehensive Innovation Program in support of the ACC's Mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health.

A graduate from Harvard College and the Yale School of Medicine, Bhatt completed her medicine and pediatrics residency at Harvard, her adult cardiology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital and her adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension fellowship at the Boston Children's Hospital. She most recently served as the director of Outpatient and Telecardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Corrigan-Minehan Heart Center. While ACC CIO, Bhatt will continue clinical practice at MGH in adult congenital heart disease and teaching as an associate professor at Harvard Medical School.

As an active clinical cardiologist, investigator and educator Bhatt brings nearly 10 years of experience in telemedicine and digital health to her new role. She founded her first program in virtual care in 2013 and continues to work on creating culturally relevant personalized virtual cardiovascular care delivery models. Her research has centered on identifying and implementing solutions to overcoming access barriers to cardiovascular and telemedicine care.

Dr. Bhatt's interest in digital health strategy and the digital transformation of the cardiovascular field stems from her belief that state of the art, personalized care can be delivered to individuals in the community, empowering patients and creating stronger clinician-patient partnerships for sustainable health outcomes. The ACC Innovation Program has a robust platform to transform digital patient care and advance technologies that are reshaping medicine, and is focused on furthering these strategies.

D.W. Pine is the Creative Director of TIME, responsible for the design of one of the world's most iconic brands. In the past 20 years, he has designed and produced more than 750 covers of TIME.

Pine, named one of Ad Age’s Creatives You Should Know and one of the 25 People Who Defined Visual Culture by Artsy, also directs TIME’s animated cover for its more than 50 million social audience. He led TIME's editorial and design as the first weekly magazine to launch on the iPad, meeting with Steve Jobs and working with Apple to produce the first iPad issue. He also conceived and led TIME to produce the first fully-interactive weekly magazine designed specifically for the iPhone. Aside from overseeing the design of the magazine, he has art directed seven Person of the Year cover packages, several TIME 100 projects, dozens of special issues and more than two dozen books.

In the NFT space, Pine concepted and created 99 original pieces of artwork for the Slices of TIME NFT project, and created an original NFT interactive piece called The Lines of History, which sold at Sotheby’s.

Pine, named the 2019 Art Director of the Year by Folio, has presented at conferences around the world, including a three-day workshop for journalists in Beijing, China, and as the featured speaker for the international design conference in Amsterdam, and dozens of universities, design companies and festivals throughout the U.S. He was also commissioned to design and curate a cover exhibit for Livraria Lello in Porto, Portugal, considered one of the world’s most beautiful bookstores.

Prior to TIME, Pine was the Design Coordinator at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for six years and led the design for the newspaper’s coverage of the 1996 Olympic Games. He started his career as a sportswriter for the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, with more than 1,100 published stories. Pine covered local and professional sports, the PGA Tour, and traveled with an NCAA college basketball team, serving as its beat writer for three seasons.

Lindsay loves Olympic-style lifting, HIIT workouts, plyometrics and acrobatics. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, lifting weights, and practicing her handstand skills!
