Everyone eventually hits a wall, but it's different for each individual. So how can you stay at maximum efficiency to avoid crashing into the wall? Find ways to have a little fun. You make a plan to work hard, so also make a plan to avoid burnout. Take small breaks, find fun things to do while waiting for files to download, check social media only during coffee breaks or stops and call someone - an actual old fashion phone call to your BFF or parents or significant other just to remind you why you work so hear. #WorkSmart and #WorkHard for success. a bit of gamification or pauses in your overall hustle goes a long ways. It's an old saying but it applies perfectly to start-ups, entrepreneurs and business owners: "Crawl before you walk". Seems simple, but too many people want overnight success and do not want to be patient. The process of creating a business structure for the "Great Idea" that could become a start-up or changing and existing business plan for a major pivot is not the sexy part of entrepreneurship. It's hard work. It's saying No more than Yes because the audience, the market, competition, cost and other realities won't allow for every crazy idea to be explored. It's finding what works best and do that. A lot of that. It's a whole lot of paperwork. It's being patient.
Why? Because that's crawling before you walk. Once you have a well-developed and vetted idea, you can build a brand to support the product/service. Then you can create the marketing strategy, the sales process, the distribution and delivery mechanisms. Now, you can start. Without all that, you will most likely not draw any attention at all and fail. If you draw attention but can't actually conduct a transaction, you fail. Even if you get attention and conduct the first transactions, can you sustain that? Once you can sustain your business, you have something that can be successful and create real wealth and opportunities for you, your family and friends.
That's the ultimate goal. Take the time to give yourself the best opportunity to reach it. #SaturdayMorningHustle Bonus Advice: If your working a product or business just to get rich, stop now and go get a J-O-B somewhere else. To crawl before you walk you will need passion for the work and dedication of energy to make it happen. If that's you, best of luck! If not, save yourself some time and money. There is no such thing as easy money, get rich quick ideas or accidental success. Have passion and energy or #GTFO.
After a week of travel (for business) I'm way outside my normal routine. Even though I'm not as structured as many people, I do like having an idea of what needs to be done, in what order, how long something should take, etc.... But the key to being successful is the ability to handle situations that take you out of your comfort zone. That's often where the best work occurs. Don't be afraid of getting out of your routine, embrace it. Make a potential weakness a strength.
My question for you is, are you super structured and organized or are you super fluid and flexible in your process? Let's talk about it. How do you prefer to work, and how do you get back on track if you are pushed out of that routine (or lack of a routine)?

An ironic #SaturdayMorningHustle today. Let's talk about how much content we all (you and I) are taking in every day via the internet, email, smartphone apps, social media, video, podcast, blogs and "traditional" mediums like print, TV (network or cable) and radio. How much is enough to make you feel connected and how much is too much - making you want to turn it all off and go back to bed? Are you happy with your daily intake or burned out?
To be honest, I'm burned out. The second half of the conversation is about your own mental health. How do YOU (yes you!) manage all these options? What techniques, attitudes or even technology do you use to make sure you can be social online without feeling overwhelmed? It's a #SaturdayMorningHustle idea so simple but so powerful and true. People appreciate positive reinforcement. Who doesn't love a compliment, big or small? Think about how you feel when some tells you something nice. Small things count too. Like on your social media post, positive comments, and people going out of their way to make a specific comment about how they like what you're doing.
So if all this is true, why don't we all do more of it? Too often we use social media, phone apps, digital platforms and networking events to be negative, complain and not lift others up because we don't want the competition. For me, when I get positive comments online and #IRL about the Saturday Morning Hustle podcast, my business podcast (The Golding Group #NeoMarketing Podcast) and other activity it really lifts my spirits.

It’s a very different #SaturdayMorningHustle this week. We’re spending our Saturday at the office but not working. Instead, we’re collaborating with a local producer on the “Yes! Science!” Live event and video recording. “Yes! Science!” is a show featuring women and minority individuals who work in STEM with interviews and cool science experiments. We’re providing coffee and donuts this week to make sure everyone has enough energy. How fun is that! Get out there and find ways to collaborate in your community and motivate others to do the same. No, we're not on a new diet for the #SaturdayMorningHustle but instead reminding you (while reminding myself) that we all need to take advice and guidance we give to others as direction for ourselves. There's nothing like a less-than-happy conversation with a client to make you feel really stupid for expecting discipline and structure from them (of your making or theirs) but not yourself. Trust me, I'm speaking from very recent experience. This is called "eating your own dog food" or "taking your own medicine" or "walking it like you talk it" - you get the message, right?
Too many people in business and other pursuits fear rules or structure because they don't want to be constrained or held back by a business plan or marketing strategy. Of course, this is misguided. The plan create structure with room to adapt so you can be creative or make different decisions on the fly when adaptation is needed. That's how it's (supposed to be) designed to work best. Everyone needs to be working towards the same goals, via different objectives and tactics while remembering the big picture. Anything "held back" by a good plan probably deserves to be skipped.

The simple truth is there is no simple, singular path to success - big or small. Most of the time something (or everything) fails to work out as planned. BUT, that's not an excuse to skip the plan and jump in without a strategy in place. That's even worse. The key to success is making a plan, developed via a strategic process with goals, objectives, tactics, tools, assets and measurement that can adapt as needed. Because you will need to make changes along the way. The better prepared you are to change with circumstances, the more likely you will be in achieving your ultimate success. Let's talk about it!

It's such a simple concept: social media. Platforms for people to connect with each other from anywhere at anytime without limitations. It's like everyone is invited to the party, class, meeting, conference, exhibition, etc. no matter where you are or how you get there. BUT the platforms quickly declined into the home of trolls, spammers and scam artist. There is hope.
I'm seeing a shift in how people understand social media, the internet, mobile technology, etc. and it's for the good. Entrepreneurs, marketers and business decision-makers are pulling back from selling and doing a better job of communicating by being social. Like the wise man once said, start with your WHY long before you get to the how, what and for how much.
Don't use SM to prospect wide and close what you can, but instead tell your story and connect with people as people. What you want them to do (buy something, go somewhere, support a cause, vote, riot, etc.) will naturally occur once you take the opportunity to create relationships. THAT is what social media is supposed to do.

Roller coasters are supposed to be fun because you get to climb to the top of the track, look around at everything and then all-of-a-sudden whoosh your diving downward at top speed. Twist, turns and even loops. That's great fun at an amusement park but not when running a business. A metaphorical roller coast ride as an entrepreneur is having an epic high like a new client, big check or other great success but then what goes up must also come back down. Often in business, these highs and lows happen in the same week. That's the roller coaster.
So, what do you do? Strive for a more predictable middle. Avoid making decisions when you're at the very top or very bottom. Understand that neither the euphoria of wins or the dread of a loss (taking an "L") is permanent. Predictability is key to a successful business, so go after those highs to balance the lows (it happens to everyone, not just you) but work towards consistency. The roller coaster is a lot of fun, but it's exhausting at the same time. If you want a long, healthy career try staying off the roller coaster or at least try to make it a short ride.
Don't think you're bulletproof when you are on top and don't quit just because you came crashing back down. Balance yourself and understand we all take this ride from time to time.

It's an exciting #SaturdayMorningHustle weekend around here! Startup OKC - A Weekend-Long Startup Competition is happening in our building Project 3810. I love this stuff. Young, up-and-coming entrepreneurs all get in a room to meet, discuss potential business ideas and form teams to develop the best ideas and pitch to a panel of experts for constructive criticism. It's the process of starting a business, just shrunk into a weekend and executed in a safe space for learning and developing as a professional.
If you're not interested in the process, feedback, change and working within realistic expectations than you have no business calling yourself an entrepreneur. An open mind, adaptability and strategic (not just tactical) thinking are the keys to starting and managing a successful business.
So, what is Startup OKC? Startup OKC is a 3-day event during which teams of participants pitch ideas for new startups. They then form teams around the ideas presented, and work the entire weekend to build an MVP (minimum viable product), identify customers, refine MVP, market research, customer validation, refine MVP, validate, business model & rollout strategy, pitch prep & finally on Sunday evening. Pitch!
Throughout the weekend participants network with other teams and individuals at Startup OKC. Mentors will be in and out throughout the weekend. The mentors are some of the best and innovative minds from around Oklahoma City.

What an amazing morning, at the end of a great week in a super month. That's right, everything is going well and I am full of gratitude for the opportunity to create a career that I love so much I work "extra" on the weekend. As Mark Twain once said: “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” and I'm right there. When things are going well for us, we need to remember that a lot of other people are playing their part in our success. The key is to give back more than you are receiving. Be a part of others finding their passion, their calling, their success.
I'm so thankful for my business partners, our clients, our vendors, community collaborators and anyone who's putting great things into the universe and allowing us to amplify that. Take a moment to think about how you fill a role in what other people in your life and profession are doing. Enjoy that feeling. You earned it. Finally, respect to all of Oklahoma and OKC on the 24th anniversary of the 4/19/95 Murrah Building bombing when we lost 168 lives here in Oklahoma City and a blessing to all on this Easter weekend. It's Saturday and I'm in the office all fired up because I had an amazing experience at TEDx Oklahoma City yesterday. The speakers (some I knew, other hearing for the first time), the people in the room together and the opportunity to open yourself up to new, different and challenging thoughts was exactly what I needed. I love the exchange of ideas. I like being challenged and debated on thoughts and processes. I think it's good to have healthy, respectful conversations with constructive criticisms and challenges to the status quo. That's what happened yesterday.

The #SaturdayMorningHustle is all about making adjustments. In business and life, things almost never go 100% to plan. Things happen. Being able to adjust is key to making the best of any situation. The small, daily adjustments we all make are easy. Big, life-altering changes are harder. Should you quit your job, change careers, move across the country? Sometimes that’s what it takes to be successful or find what makes you happy. So be open to the idea of making that adjustment in your life. Don’t close your mind to the possibilities. It's the simplest of all social norms: Don't steal other people's things. This includes creative ideas and content. Not just word-for-word copy and paste style plagiarism but lifting ideas, styles and execution is just wrong. No one appreciates this. The internet and social media have presented all of us an opportunity to connect with others and communicate in new and interesting ways. The only rule is to be yourself. Don't build your self-brand on someone else's concept. Authentic audience development is the only way to create something valuable and sustainable. Shortcuts and unethical behavior is the exact opposite. You don't have to be the most interesting person on the planet to have an audience, you just have to be your authentic self. Good luck!

I'm typically motivated on the #SaturdayMorningHustle but today I'm really fired up after a very fulfilling experience this week I want to share with you. Twice a year I teach a 2 hour class on Marketing / Advertising for the local Career Tech. My class is one in a series on small business education like accounting, legal, social media, etc.
My fav. part is meeting entrepreneurs, small business owners and people considering taking the leap into the world of business. Helping these people understand how to best succeed but also what to avoid (so they don't blow all their money) is very rewarding.
I also find great value in putting my expertise to the test. Like the Albert Einstein Quote "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" teaching a beginner class to a range of people forces me to simplify complex ideas and communicate in a very direct and effective way.
Ultimately, playing a small part in developing our small business community and taking the challenge of explaining in a simple fashion both add up to a very fulfilling experience. A key to success: not letting BS (in your head or from other people) slow you down. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing, saying or working on. Even if they're competing with you for a client, job or some other prize. Focus on being your best for all the right reasons. Stay true to what gives you a reason to work harder, longer and better than them. Don't let their shortcuts, questionable tactics or even straight up unethical behavior affect your hustle. You do you. The right path to the success you want (whether you know it or not) will reveal itself when you tune out all the noise and stay true to yourself.

But, not everyone can #RiseAndGrind on Saturday mornings and that’s OK. The key to success is focusing on what you can control - your effort. You don't have to do it the way I do it, but you do have to find ways to work smart and work hard.

Good morning and welcome to the first #SaturdayMorningHustle for 2019. With the new year comes a lot of New Year Resolutions and other standards people try to hold themselves to. If "business" is one of your topics for 2019 you need to know a couple of simple but powerful ideas about how to best achieve success in 2019 - focus on 2 key things: How much effort you put into your pursuits AND controlling what you can, not everything. If you can do this, you will find real empowerment as an entrepreneur, self-brand or rock star employee climbing the corporate ladder.
Hustle, grind and put extra effort in to outwork "the other guy/girl" is something you have control over. Every great champion credits the training that got them to the top levels. Do the same for your career.
If you cannot focus on what you control, you will burn out from letting outside factors effect your work flow, attitude and outlook. Do what you can, when you can and understand all other factors are outside your control (and often your competitors control as well). Don't worry about weather, the stock market or who is President. Stay connected to who you are, what you're trying to accomplish and why.

It's the last Saturday in 2018 and everyone is reflecting on the last year and planning for the future. Now is the time to make a plan for success and then DO SOMETHING to put it into play. I got a t-shirt from OKC media consultant Patrick Allmond this week with a simple but powerful message perfect for starting 2019 off right: Stop Doing Nothing.
So simple, but so true. Yes, you need to make a plan, create a to-do list and create goals, objectives, tactics, etc.... BUT without action it's all worthless. So let's get started. You don't have to wait until Monday, New Years Day or any other artificial deadline - get to work right now.
If you want it bad enough, you will work for it. Stop ding nothing and get your hustle and grind on. Grab a cup of coffee, power up with a donut and make it happen. No excuses.

Let's talk about how important small business is for our local, state and national economy. The majority of people in the United States are employed by small businesses. This time of the year, #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday get all the attention and a lot of your $$$. To make sure we don't lose our small businesses due to the holiday "big box" retail push, #SmallBusinessSaturday is essential. Almost as essential is #GivingTuesday on the 27th for supporting non-profits. So. get out there today and spend some of your cash on goods and services from small businesses. Locally owned businesses employ people and buy/sell raw materials and support items. All of this creates tax opportunities for your city and state. Keep your money local, support great employers and be a smart consumer by shopping at a small business (or 7) today.

Something struck me recently about the changing ideas of what makes one an entrepreneur, hustler, influencer, business leader, etc.... This last week I've interviewed a few entrepreneurs, hosted a small business/entrepreneur event and been in multiple meetings. Every time, I looked at the people involved and realized there was no "set" type of person. Old, young, male, female, suit-and-tie or jeans and a t-shirt types. All types of people, pursuing their career or other passions while trying to find ways to make it all work. That's the common bond - making your "thing" work because that's what you want to do with your life. From that, comes the common traits of successful people. Drive, determination and work ethic. You gotta want it and you gotta be willing to work for it. Not just long, hard hours but odd, not convenient hours.
Are you willing to do more than "the other guy/girl" to be successful? That's what really matters. Not what you look like, where you came from, what your favorite band is or how "cool" you are. That's the common denominator. Good luck, see you next week!

The #SaturdayMorningHustle is all about effort: #Hustle and #Grind #EvenOnTheWeekend BUT you can’t lose sight of why you’re doing the work. Dont forget what it is that motivates you to put in that extra work. The people who are important in your life, a drive to be the best you can be or simply taking a challenge head on.
With the upcoming holidays are full of distractions, but you can’t let that kill the motivation that you’ve created all your long. At the same time, you shouldn’t ignore family and friends in order to put in extra work on your side hustle, start-up, self brand or small business. So how do you balance the Entrepreneur life during the holidays? Adapt.
In Nov. and Dec. your regular schedule will be tested. The “extra” time you find on nights and weekends will be less thanks to holiday parties, shopping and family time. The key is to find new, often smaller, times and situations to utlize. Stay motivated, focused and most of all organized. Use free time between work, family and fun times to prep for dedicated work times. Make the most of what you can, when you can. All without skipping out on the important people in your life.
Enjoy some time off for the holidays. Spend time with family and friends. Recharge your batteries and reaffirm your motivation.

Sorry everyone, but we didn’t get to do a show last week because I ended up with a little too much #Hustle, too much #Grind and an unplanned hospital stay. I’m OK now, and in fact I’m back at work in my home office this week trying to catch up from being off last week due to being in the hospital. Thank goodness we have so many opportunities to work remotely, digitally and other ways in order to keep the process moving along, keep our clients happy, keep our bosses happy and meet those deadlines without too much disruption thanks to modern technology. So many jobs these days can be accomplished on a laptop, a smart phone, tablet or any place that has Internet access. This made life possible for me this week for sure.
But, You don’t have to wait for an illness or accident in order to allow your staff, key members, PT or others to work remotely. The key is finding balance in the new found freedom‘s vs. accountability, deadlines, expectations and the workflow of others. This situation is different for every office, whether a start up, existing company or a digital entity that doesn’t have a physical space. The key is making sure every member of your team feels valued for what they’re contributing and not allowing anyone to “gig the system” and not pull their own weight. God luck! See you next week.

In communications, it’s called a pattern interruption. Change the standard response to create a new, difference opportunity to connect. Be interesting. Be memorable. But most of all, find ways to connect, communicate and create the potential for a relationship (personal, business or other).
#WorkSmart then #WorkHard but find ways to make your routine less routine to keep your battery charged and communications open.

Finding real balance in your life when you have dedicated yourself to building a business, career or self-brand also includes how and when you talk about your pursuits, when to "sell" and when to pass and when to be proud of what you do (and how you do it) vs. being obnoxious about it. You can't be shy or nothing ever happens BUT if you're about that life 150% of the time you don't have room for anything (or anyone) else. A central theme of my last four new client orientations (for The Golding Group) has been the function of Branding and Marketing as a filter to the sales funnel, not a catch-all. Too many people want their brand, marketing, advertising and PR to be "everything to everyone" which is a mistake. The best business marketing sets expectations for exactly what your business provides (and doesn't) how your product/service operates (and doesn't) and why EXACTLY they should be spending their money to acquire it. Everything else is just fluff. Don Draper on Mad Men once told the owner of scandalized Caldecott Farms dog food “Any agency that does not change the name is stealing your money”. She does not agree of course. Draper goes on to tell her to find a new agency because she won't follow his professional advice - and he's right!

Don Draper and I agree, anyone you hire (or hires you) has to be a "fit" in style, approach and willingness to do what works, not what's easy or what the client wants to hear. That's just stealing your money. Sometimes it doesn't work out, and the professional relationship should end.
A #SaturdayMorningHustle reminder to stay focused on what’s important for you. The reason I come in early, stay late, hustle, grind and do all the things I do for my business is because I’m trying to build something for my family to live the life we want to live. It’s not always about becoming rich and famous. It’s about doing what feels good to you, what feels right to you and what makes sense for you. When you combine those things in a business that can be profitable (and sustainable) you’re doing it the right way and not for all the wrong reasons. Understanding your “Why" (you know what I’m talking about right? Simon Sinek - Start With Why - Go look him up if you don’t know) makes it all happen in the right way. Can you combine your “Why” and your experience and your passion? Something that makes you want to work this hard, along with something that can be sustainable, for your family, the way you want live? It’s not about someone else, it’s not about society, it's about you.
Everyone wants to talk about how bad they want success, what they are willing to do for it, how long it's been on their mind (since I was a kid!). Only a portion of these same people actually have the talent to pull it off. Of that group, who is willing to hustle, grind and patiently build from the ground up? The building process is where success comes from. Not ista-fame or being an overnight sensation, but actually building a brand (or self brand) from nothing. Why? Because understanding how it was build will allow you to adapt to changes that WILL happen. The market, your audience, the competition will push back on your vision of the brand. Things will change. Will you know what to do when that change occurs? And then when it happens again (and again, and again)? The key to sustainable success is understanding every element of a business. How you got from idea to launch to audience attention to success. Skipping steps or having someone hand you a finished product does NOT do that!
We discuss a lot on the Saturday Morning Hustle including tips, advice and business insights but we also try to motivate and inspire when possible. Nothing inspires me more than hearing from people IRL (in real life) who listen to/watch the SMH on podcast, video and social media. Today's post has two examples of people who are building their own success in the world who also happen to be fans of the #SaturdayMorningHustle podcast. How cool is that! There are two equally important aspects to creating success. #WorkSmart and then #WorkHard. You can't just do one or the other and expect to win.
#WorkSmart is the research, planning and documentation of how you will create your successful endeavor. This is your business plan, your strategy and financials. You must have these in order to create and capitalize on attention and conversion of your marketing efforts. This is a lot of work, and can be intimidating for many. But once done, this information will make decison making easy and fast with assurance you're on the right path. Very helpful when all you see is work and not enough rewards (yet). Be patient.
#WorkHard is the hustle and grind. You have to execute every single day. It's a marathon, consisting of hundreds of sprints. Stay focused and consistent. Work every aspect of your plan from the most basic item to the top-end. Put max effort into your #WorkSmart plan or it will fail. Start with a plan before #WorkHard to win!
The #SaturdayMorningHustle didn't start as a podcast, but a series of social media posts about the #Hustle and #Grind of owning your own business. These posts connect with entrepreneurs, business owners and everyone willing to work hard for what they wanted to achieve because I'm actually in the office every Saturday putting in extra work. One group that really connects with this idea are fitness professionals. No other lifestyle is more connected to "working hard every day to see results" more than the gym crowd. The irony is I am not in shape like these fitness coaches and trainers. But, we do have a similar mindset, work ethic and need to motivate others to achieve their goals. My aim is to help business people of all types, which includes fitness businesses as well. That's right, not everyone on the planet is ethical (or honest). Plenty of people you have never met (or might be very close to you) are willing to take other people's ideas and pass them off as their own. I'm not condoning it, I'm just telling you it can/will happen. But, you still need to innovate. Come up with new ideas, approaches, tactics and ways of doing things. Do not let the potential theft of your next great idea slow or stop you. Put yourself out there, and see who does it better. Focus on your audience and your success. Anyone looking for a shortcut will end up short in the end. Make them work hard to keep up with you. Stealing ideas and claiming credit is not sustainable. The most practical advice I can give you on the #SaturdayMorningHustle is this: Start every idea, project or promotion the same way you build a business. Begin with the best idea possible. Don't be an "us too" offering but really find something new or a new way to do it. Make sure that idea solves a problem for people. That makes it valuable, something people will pay you for. Set your idea apart, differentiate what it is, how it works, how you deliver it, etc.... Do all of this with your audience wants and needs in mind, not your wants (or ego). If you do that, you will have something people are willing to pay for, delivered the way they want. Last but not least, make sure it's profitable. That profit will pay back startup cost and keep you going when things are not working perfectly. If everything goes well, profit will make it possible to expand. Measure, adjust, do it all again - just better.
We’re all about the Hustle and Grind on the #SaturdayMorningHustle podcast, but today we focus (or refocus for some) on what’s really important. Don’t lose sight of why you’re trying to be successful. Put in the extra effort, but also make time for family, friends and community.

Success is a series of hurdles. Some are easy, some are harder, some seem impossible. That's the grind, this is where hustle and drive are needed. If it's worth doing, it will be hard. But, everyone on TV, social media and the internet only show you the cars, vacations and bling that comes from their (claimed) success. The grind isn't pretty and no one wants to admit they struggled, failed, got discouraged and maybe even quit (but then came back). That is the reality of anyone who has achieved a level of success that you are sitting at home hoping to emulate. True story! Do NOT be discouraged when your success journey has highs and lows. It's all part of the process. Get up early, stay up late, work on the weekend and do what you need to do for your success. Everyone makes mistakes. It happens in business and in life. No one is perfect. The key to success is what you learn from each mistake, steps you take to change so it doesn't happen again and owning up to it so you can move forward. Too many people get too focused on the small stuff or what a setback means in the very immediate short term. Take a step back and look at how mistakes and other errors are great teachers and allow us the opportunity to own up to the shortcoming. That ownership puts you in the position of earning back the trust of everyone involved. Why? Because mistakes happen, and your clients, co-workers and associates will not be afraid to trust your judgment if you make everything work for you in a positive way even when things don't go as planned. You know the story of David vs. Goliath, right? The average man David slew the undefeated giant Goliath with a simple slingshot. But how does this apply to today, and for business? Simple: Positioning. The process of competing by utilizing your business strengths, mitigating your weaknesses and never going head-to-head with your competitor greatest strengths. You can't beat Wal-Mart with price or selection but you can win the customer service battle. Find the place (the position) in your industry that maximizes your strengths without competing with others greatest strength. This gives you best advantge to win. The only way to find your truest position is be honest about your strengths/weaknesses, research your competition and execute tactics based on this information and not your ego, gut feeling or "how we've always done it" excuses. To find success, you really need the ability to change situationally. Not major changes (unless forced) but adapting along the way. Everyone I had interactions with this week needed to make changes in their organization. Some big, some small some just being open to new things. If any of them had a "how we've always done it" attitude they would have set themselves and their organizations back. Being open to change, listening to collaborative ideas and allowing the problem to be solved instead of insisting they were right was the best, most successful way to solve the problems at hand. Anyone can hold themselves back be being selfish and unbendable. Instead, look for ways to incorporate input from others to open yourself up to better ideas. You can always go back to the "old" way of doing things later if it doesn't work out, BUT you will never find a better way to do thongs without being open to the process. Until next week, good luck!

During a media interview this week, I was asked what advice I would give my younger self if I had a time machine. The interview was about business and entrepreneurship, so my response was this: Go all in, don't play it safe or over-think. Be willing to stick your neck out and take risk. Don't make reckless or stupid decisions, but do push yourself and your business fast and hard. Commit! Put yourself out there for the business you want to create and avoid holding yourself back in order to avoid potential shortfalls. Nothing great ever happens in your comfort zone. Make a plan, do your homework and then GO FOR IT with everyhtign you have. If you can't do that, then maybe the entrepreneur life isn't for you.
Treating all people well creates positive situations for everyone. Slow down, talk to people and create relationships, not just transactions. #SaturdayMorningHustle advice for the Easter weekend. Has this happened to you? Positive or negative?
In business, we always focus on customer service. But, what if we do less training on what to say and when to say it and put more emphasis on being open to the needs of the person walking in the door, calling on the phone, etc...? That would make for happier employees, customers, vendors, etc.... and that's good for business.
Too many businesses make the mistake of building an operational model that makes providing a product or service as easy as possible for the provider and not the consumer. That's backward! To create a unique, successful business model that will compete, attract and retain a highly loyal audience (best case business scenario) you must construct your operations to the wants and needs of the audience. You can't force your way of doing business onto your audience. You can try, but most likely fail. Instead, pay maximum attention to your consumer and give them what they want, how they want it. With a consumer forward business model, you now need to find ways to improve or simplify the process to create profitability. With profit, every business will fail. This combo of audience need plus profitability has a real chance to succeed and adapt as needed when your audience or industry changes. That's disruption! It's what Uber did to taxis, Amazon did to big-box retail and AirBnB did to hotels.
The best way to be a great boss, co-worker, collaborator, entrepreneur, business owner, volunteer, civic leader, etc.... is to learn the right and wrong way to lead, motivate and inspire from everyone you meet. #SaturdayMorningHustle #Advice This includes not only those people doing it all right but those bad bosses who made you want to quit, hide or just not care. The #SaturdayMorningHustle is all about making things happen while everyone else is resting. It's not enough to work hard, but you really have to set yourself apart IF you are trying to build a successful business, career or side-hustle. There's no such thing as an overnight success and there is no one singular way to achieve your goals. But, you can't just tell people you have the drive. You must show them! You also need to prove you have what it takes to build something successful, not just get lucky once. Document your hustle, grind and work process. Show how you made it work and how you can do it again. For me, it's all about the process. I don't just do it and then hand over a finished work product to my clients. No, I involve them in the process to ensure everyone understands how the decisions were made. This creates a better long-term solution for everyone involved. Then, I take my skills and do it all over again.
#SaturdayMorningHustle is all about Patience and Consistency. It’s the key to Success! Play the long game, offer more than you take and don’t chase the wrong opportunities. The best clients, projects and collaborations in my career came to me after working and waiting for a long time (years even) for it to happen in the right way. Because I received so much positive feedback from the podcast last week, I wanted to continue the conversation today. I love the hustle and grind, I’m just built that way. But, not everything is a 1-to-1 give and take (or make) situation. In business, we miss these opportunities more than we take advantage. Sometimes you need to do things that are not for you, but others. At least 51% for others. Sometimes 100%. Why? It always opens opportunity in ways you can never plan.
Meet new people, hear new ideas or be inspired by others you would have never otherwise met. We all need that. The ROI is always positive, but hard to quantify.
True success comes from a positive attitude and willingness to give more than you take. We all hustle and grind every single day, even on the weekends, to make something for ourselves and our family. That’s what it takes to be an entrepreneur, own your own business or be the best employee where you work. BUT that does not mean every minute of every day is spend getting just ourselves ahead. The best way to get the most out of your Monday through Friday 9-5 grind is be prepared and organized. SaturdayMorningHustle is the perfect time to prep for the week ahead. That's what I do. Make your to-do list, set up your assets, do your research, etc..... Come in early, stay late, on the weekend, etc. it’s all up to you. Put the work in before the work. THAT’S hustle. Good luck.
Today we discuss the process all Creative professionals go through. I call it the “Blank Page” Theory. You start with a blank sheet of paper. Write down where you are, point A. At the other end of the paper, write down where you need to be, point B. This can be used for creating art, design or solving a problem. Now, start adding to your point A. What do you have in place (assets), what are you trying to accomplish, why are you doing it, etc. Then, do the same for point B. What ya the finished product? A painting, a brochure, a website, a better mousetrap maybe? Now, without preconceived notions or “how we’ve always done it” excuses start connecting A to B. This is the what, how, when, etc. in problem solving. For art, it’s a sketch, then a base layer, then the details, etc. the process is still the same. Start with nothing. Opportunity comes from change. Don’t be afraid of new situations, even if it wasn’t your plan or idea. In fact, run at it full force. A new year is coming, a new opportunity for you to set and reach goals. Do you have the right goals and are you working hard enough (in the right way) to achieve them?
