Lj Presents: The Revolution

This Week I have filmmakers Celia Peters, Hilton J Day, Benjamin Mullholland, and comedienne Ambitious Mae.  The Guests talked about being black and on a film set and also what it would take to make stories not only from an Africentric point of view but taking it to the world stage (or screen) as we discussed the possibilities of making films about prominent historical figures from ancient Egypt and the African continent.  I definitely enjoyed catching up with these wonderful people.  Enjoy!

Lj Presents: The Alternate Alrik Bursell

Lj Presents: The Alternate Alrik Bursell

Alrik Bursell is a filmmaker, producer, cinematographer, editor and director.  He's been working in video production for over 10 years and has been working on everything from feature films, to broadcast commercials to DVD instructional videos, if those even exist

Alrik is a big believer in casting diversely and getting more people who don’t look like me in front of the camera. We have 100 years of cinema with 99% of everyone on camera being a certain color, I’m hoping to be a part of the change that’s coming, where we start to see people of all backgrounds be represented in our films.

I’m currently working on my first feature film, The Alternate, which we will be shooting in the fall of 2019.  You can also check out our collaboration, The Rage.

Wolfe and then stepped out on her own to directing with well over 20 years of experience.

Tyrel Ventura is one of my good friends that I've known for about 20 years.  I met him when I was living in Minneapolis at the tail end of his  father's (Jesse Ventura) term as governor of Minnesota.  Before he began his career as a news commentator for RT's Watching the Hawks he began making short films and being a part of a few independent features.  His training for all this came from real world experience as he worked for academy award winner Sean Penn as his personal assistant.  It was there that he began to learn from veteran   filmmakers like Clint Eastwood and Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

From there he relocated to Los Angeles Ca where he produced tv shows like Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura and the films:  The Wanderers, American Rescue Squad, and my short film The Rage.

Lj Presents: Jason Ragosta

Lj Presents: Jason Ragosta

Jason Ragosta started his career as a storyboard artist at a stop motion animation studio, called Wreckless Abandon Studios in East Granby, CT. From there he moved to San Francisco and worked at the Academy of Art University, first as a film equipment tech before managing a sound stage for Diane Baker (Actress; Marnie, Silence of the Lambs) for several years. Jason Ragosta was then fortunate enough to be hired on as an editorial office production assistant on Disney’s John Carter for a year, where he got a chance to see how big budget films are made and was able to work alongside some of his filmmaking heroes such as writer, director Andrew Stanton and the supremely talented concept artist, Ryan Church.

After John Carter, Jason Ragosta made the move into independent film by serving as a writer and director of photography on his friend Albert Lopez’s short film Love Hurts, followed by writing, directing, and shooting his own short film Boy in the Dark, which was a fictional story based on his childhood, inspired by the opening of a TEDx Talk he gave in 2015. Currently Jason is working on his first feature film, it’s a character driven post apocalyptic horror film called ZTV: The PreZerve.  -Indie Activity.com

Highlander serves as a catalyst for grassroots organizing and movement building in Appalachia and the South. We work with people fighting for justice, equality and sustainability, supporting their efforts to take collective action to shape their own destiny. Through popular education, language justice, participatory research, cultural work, and intergenerational organizing, we help create spaces — at Highlander and in local communities — where people gain knowledge, hope and courage, expanding their ideas of what is possible. We develop leadership and help create and support strong, democratic organizations that work for justice, equality and sustainability in their own communities and that join with others to build broad movements for social, economic and restorative environmental change.

LjPresents: Annegret Steioff

Annegret Steioff is an actress comedian and has been featured in many short films from her home country and now she’s making a name for herself in the U.S.

Annegret was born and raised in a tiny German town that always smelled like burnt chocolate. Until she was three years old she lived with a Turkish Muslim immigrant family because her mom decided she would rather smell the roses. She was a florist. Annegret was supposed to take over the family business but she decided to go to university instead. If only she had chosen something REAL like Law, Agriculture or backpiping. Instead she got her BA in Acting, WON (!) the green card and moved to the us. Annegret gets her humor from her dad who was once approached about not cutting his grass and decided to bulldozer the garden, fill it with concrete and paint it green. That's also how Annegret learned about concrete burn.

Lj Presents: Tyrel Ventura

It was then that he met his co-anchor and friend Tabetha Wallace as they aired the YouTube news commentary show: Buzzsaw.

With the success of Buzzsaw Tyrel pitched a new show to RTtv and Watching the Hawks was created and is now enjoying 2 seasons of being on the air.

We began our conversation talking about past tv shows video games and the movies that we saw and liked.  We later talked about life in DC and the difference between working in the Hollywood system and commenting on the political system and main stream media  in DC and the rest of the U.S.  Enjoy.
