Special On Location Podcast at the LA Art Show

It was amazing to be able to not only see artwork from around the world, but be able to have great conversations with artists who have traveled to be a part of the LA Art Show.
On this special episode we chat with 3 artists whose work captivated us and I hope their stories inspire you to continue creating!
The first artist is Zelene Jiang Schlosberg a Chinese artists who currently resides in Chicago, and her work is a unique take similar to paper cutouts, but instead of cutting paper she cuts the canvas itself and layers 2 canvases on top of eachother to add a dynamic element to her work.
The second artist is Luis Fuentes from Peru, using custom made canvases his oil perspective landscape work really transports you into a state of tranquility.
The third artist is Jioh Choi a Korean artist that mixes symbolism and materials like mother pearl and swarovski crystals in a way to tell an emotional story.

Dodos and Sons with Sergio

Thank you for listening to the LA Artist Podcast, where we chat with local artists about their works, style, what influenced them to start their artist journey and more.

We chat about the vendor life and being a working artist doing shows around LA. Specifically the LA County Fair is one of the events we love doing but its a tough job vending art for a full month and working 14 hour days, but it's definitely a great time and you meet new friends. The overcoming of losing one's job and having to figure out what to do, what works best, and how to survive while creating art.

Quote of the Ep: “Just jump in the pool, you just got a jump in the pool. Sometimes I was very hesitant to get this started, as far as going to booths and making sales and everything and actually putting my artwork out there but you never know the response you are gonna get until you actually get out there and try putting it out there. ”

So much art joy, happiness and energy from Meleny Pichardo

So much art joy, happiness and energy from Meleny Pichardo

Thank you for listening to the LA Artist Podcast, where we chat with local artists about their works, style, what influenced them to start their artist journey and more.

Having a very whimsical art style inspired by Pogo the comic strip and Bones the comic book, but bringing her own style into the mix. With her high energy you can feel her passion for creating art and telling stories through her work. Having not gone to school for art, she doesnt regret not going because she can truly express herself without restrictions in a sense. Not to say you shouldn’t learn the fundamentals of art, but you will learn from creating, so never stop creating.

After being in the art world for years, Mel is in a phase of chaos fueled by happiness to create art, and its very infections and radiant. Taking the time to find moments of inspiration and create art no matter where she was, wiether it be from music, nature, reading or just living day to day and finding the light from anything.

Quote of the Ep: “Ask questions! Even though it can be uncomfortable if you’re anxious or shy, ask questions! Either do your research on the interente or ask questions to a a person that works at a gallery, at an art evet, ask questions of how they got started, how long have they been doing it, what steps they took. You know those are so important for you to gain and build that confidence so that you yourself can get out there and do it!”

The colorful and radiant joy of art with Natasha Rindt

Thank you for listening to the LA Artist Podcast, where we chat with local artists about their works, style, what influenced them to start their artist journey and more.

Natasha, aka Tasha, has a vibrant and colorful style and why of life. Using vibrant colors in an abstract way that shows a lot of emotions and will fill your heart with joy. Having been drawn to colors throughout her life, she loves to use the colors to process tough emotions, especially over the past couple of years during the pandemic. Though Tasha did receive a degree for Animation, her passion was still painting and decided to leave digital art to pursue painting full time.

Being happy to get to a point where you are able to focus on personal artwork instead of commission work has been tough but Tasha has been more selective and is able to spend time on work that makes her happy with the work she is producing.

Quote of the Ep(1:06:20): “It’s Okay to mimic other artists… When you are starting out and using other artist techniques, make sure you credit them... It's totally okay if you don't know what you wanna do, it's okay to mimic other artists and practice those technical skills that then can be a jumping off point for you to define what your style will be eventually.”

The Journey has just begun for Miranda Morehouse

The Journey has just begun for Miranda Morehouse

Thank you for listening to the LA Artist Podcast, where we chat with local artists about their works, style, what influenced them to start their artist journey and more.

With the shadows of personal obstacles and the global pandemic, Miranda took that time to see the opportunity to look inward and maintain a positive attitude and use art as a means to keep going. Her art reflects the nature we see all around us but may not always have time to see. “Bring the outside in”, is one of her mottos to paint landscapes to be able to display in your home.

Miranda still sees herself at the beginning of her artist journey and is wanting to explore creating more landscapes and paint bigger, as well as experimenting new mediums besides acrylic and watercolors.

Quote of the Ep(39:50): “When you begin, incorporate some kind of practice everyday. Make it a daily habit, it doesn't matter what you are painting or working on just, be creative every single day and you will grow and discover what your process is and what you like doing”

The journey of Alex Diffin, from Artist to Creative Director

The journey of Alex Diffin, from Artist to Creative Director

Thank you for listening to the LA Artist Podcast, where we chat with local artists about their works, style, what influenced them to start their artist journey and more.

Alex Diffin's journey started with wildlife and faces, but after getting bored of the norm she only wanted to get weirder and develop her own style. Diving into digital art as well, she used her skill and was hired by LB Beer Lab, a craft brewery, to design merchandise and beer labels. Her workflow now consists of using an iPad and Procreate for most of the work.

Alex’s new ventures back into more traditional paintings in the future will not always be on traditional canvases. She has made wood cut-out shapes of Tiger heads, Crows, Portraits and even Snakes, but with the pandemic she had to pause and re-evaluate her priorities until she is able to build more shapes and create more paintings.

Quote of the Ep: “Just do it! Grab what you have and just get out there! Get it out into the world! If no one knows about you, you are not doing yourself any favors.”

Chatting with ARYStudio aka Andrew Ruano

Chatting with ARYStudio aka Andrew Ruano

Thank you for listening to the LA Artist Podcast, where we chat with local artists about their works, style, what influenced them to start their artist journey and more.

On this episode the two Ruano Brothers that founded Los Ruano Gallery as well as this podcast get a chance to chat. The main focus is Andrew Ruano aka ARYStudio, an international artist whose career started in 2008 and hasn’t stopped painting since.

ARYStudios signature style is very colorful and bright with his character the ARY Robot. He drew the Robot character as a way to cheer-up a friend who was going through a rough time and it helped her smile, since then he has developed that simple joyous Robot into a family of smiling robots that people can enjoy.

His journey has not always been easy, especially having both of his hands injured and having to cope with the pain as he paints. You can hear him talk about that struggle as well as his way of dealing with “artist block” at times and how to overcome it and look for inspiration around you and amongst other artists' work.

Quote of the Ep: “Draw what you like! If you draw what you like you are going to want to draw more!”
