Sistaotey was introduced to urban gardening in 2002 as a remedy when she was diagnosed with severe clinical depression. She started with one flower pot on her patio in Los Angeles which her curiosity then grew into certifications and training as a master composter and a community garden leader. By 2014 Sistaotey's gardening hobby was added as a component of her holistic services in the form of garden coaching and community garden management. In 2020, the empty shelves in the grocery stores introduced Sistaotey to the food justice movement and she has added food apartheid abolitionist and urban micro-farmer to her resume.
