Donna Jones and Co-Researchers, Nicole and Ahmad, talk about how culture and place of origin shape experiences of being part of the LGBTQI+ community in the UK. This episode explores the sense of belonging, discussing how cross-cutting identities - identifying as queer, immigrant and person of colour - impacts on negotiating overwhelmingly white queer spaces.

Are you Sick Enough?

There is evidence that LBGTQI+ people from Black, Asian and/or other minoritised communities experience greater challenges to their mental health. In this episode, Donna Jones and Co-Researcher Sonny discuss experiences of anxiety and low self-esteem during lockdown.

In this conversation, Donna Jones and two Co-Researchers, Eileen and Karun, share their experiences with the stigma associated with being LGBTQI+ within Black, Asian and/or minoritised communities. They discuss the importance of being able to connect with people you can relate to and the acceptance of being yourself within wider society generally and queer spaces specifically.

Why do so many queer people of colour feel lonely and underrepresented? Donna Jones and Co-researchers Lokesh and Sonny explore experiences of loneliness over lockdown and how complicated it is to find people who acknowledge your difficulties and disadvantages in relation to the intersection of ‘race’ and sexuality.
