#45 - Where Are Your Feet?

Do you ever feel as though you have one foot in your current home and one foot in your original home?

When you're in your current home, you miss your family and country and culture, but when you visit your original home, it doesn't feel completely right anymore either.

When you're there, there's something missing.

When you're here, there's something missing.

But where are you in all this?

Let's get both your feet back on track in this episode of The Chic Immigrant.

#44 - 4 Magical Things I Learnt Meeting Immigrants at My Author Talks

As I finished my presentation at the Words on the Waves Writers Festival, a beautifully dressed lady shyly approached my book table and said the most touching thing to me.
She thanked me and said,

“It felt like you were telling the story of my life.”

This was the first of several wonderful conversations I had with the guests at my talks, and I learnt soooo much.

So in this episode, I want to share 4 of the lessons I learnt from these conversations, and turn each one into a message that I hope you'll find useful and uplifting.

Come and join me!

#43 - Is Erasing Your Accent Like Erasing Your Personality?

It's likely true that everyone who has ever learnt a new langauge has had the desire to speak that language as fluently and clearly as the locals. Would you agree? But here's the thing about that . . . by sounding just like the locals, are we erasing a part of our personality?

Join me on this episode as we explore the fears and practicalities of speaking a new language, and three perspectives that could make you feel much better about it all!

#42 - 4 Ways to Transform Homesickness into Something Empowering

Home. That delightful feeling of comfort and familiarity that we sometimes crave when we are separated from it and from those we love.

But there's more to homeickness than the desire to be surrounded by our special people. When you look a little deeper, there are particular emotions and thoughts at play when we feel homesick. Emotions and thoughts that reveal an underlying desire. Wouldn't it be lovely if we could play with that underlying desire and transform the sensation of homesickness into something empowering and uplifting?

So this week, let's see how we night re-style homesickness by adding some chic magic!

#38 - Being More Me Is Not Something I Regret

#38 - Being More Me Is Not Something I Regret

Sometimes when we're surrounded by people who are very vocal and feel very strongly about their opinions and how they think others should be, it can be easy to question yourself and wonder if the way these people think and act and react is actually the way you're supposed to be.

But the flip side to that, is that if you come to realise that you're own opinions and thoughts and actions and reactions are very different to theirs, and that you can not only be ok with that, but actually enjoy being who you are, and then be yourself on purpose, then you will float into a freedom that is so worth the journey to get there.

This is a meaningful episode about the freedom and joy of being more you.

I hope you feel fabulous after listening to it.

#33 - What To Do When You're Constantly Asked About Your Background (and how to guide the conversation with style)

Without meaning to, people may drive you crazy by constantly asking you we're you're from, how long you've been in your adopted country etc etc.  Not that you mind particularly (or maybe you do), but it can sure get repetitive and sometimes also cross a boundary and become too personal.  So what can you do to move onto other topics of conversation without appearing rude or cold?

So how can you re-style the experience of being alone, while becoming a magnet for the best sort of company?

Ep #18 - Why Affirmations Don't Work (& What You Can Do Instead to Live Your Life by Design)

Ep #18 - Why Affirmations Don't Work (& What You Can Do Instead to Live Your Life by Design)

Living your life by design.

Doesn't that sound just gorgeous?!  The idea that we can choose how we want our life to be, and then go about creating it.

Did you know that this is actually what we're doing now, but we're likely just unaware of it?  Our thoughts play a vital role in how we act and react in our lives, and those actions and reactions create our results; our reality.

So choosing our thoughts, rather than allowing them to be on autopilot, outside of our awareness, becomes an incredible skill that we can develop in order to live our lives by design.

And the most amazing trick to know is . . . that you are capable of designing a THOUGHT that allows you to FEEL that desired emotion NOW, as in RIGHT NOW; not at some distant point in the future when you HAVE the thing, or are DOING the thing that you want, but actually IN THIS MOMENT.

I've been working with the ladies in my CLUB Cocorico membership around this recently, and everyone has found it so insightful, and we're all gradually gaining wonderfully transformative, real-life results from using the process that I'm going to share with you in this episode.

There's a 3-step process that invite you to follow along with, so if you'd like to, go and grab a piece of paper and a pen and let's get started.

WE'RE GOING TO DESIGN A THOUGHT FOR YOU.

Ep #12 - The Gift You Give to Yourself

Being bilingual yourself, you already know about the wonderful benefits of exposure to new languages, and you've likely seen those benefits in your own children.

And if you're listening to this podcast, it's likely to be because you're drawn to the idea of creating something amazing with your language, sharing all those benefits with more children/adults/families.

In this episode, I explore how sharing your gift (and by the way, your gift includes more than just your language) can help you to connect with yourself.

Ep #11 - From Accountant to Starting the Rainbow English Club for Mums & Bubs (with Chiara de Benedictis)

IF you are still just thinking about this idea of running your own sessions

OR

You've made some progress and decided where, what and how you'd like to start your own language sessions,

but you're feeIing nervous and haven't actually taken the leap just yet . . .

. . . I invite you to plug in your earbuds and listen to our amazing Chiara from our online CLUB Cocorico.

In this wonderful chat, Chiara is very open and shares the journey of all of her fears, her concerns and her successes as she went from being an accountant in Italy, to childcare in London, and then back to Italy with a beautiful new baby and a desire to use her love of languages and her passion for working with children to start her Rainbow English Club for Mums and Bubs.

Chiara shares:

  • How she turned fear into excitement and took her first steps
  • How breaking down her seemingly overwhelming goal into little bite-sized pieces took her from a vague idea, to creating gorgeous English sessions that she and the children and Mums just love
  • Her desire to start cheap, and how she made it happen
  • Having her own little daughter be a part of her sessions
  • Some funny ways she found herself procrastinating
  • And more great tips to help YOU get started and growing

There's nothing like hearing someone else's story, someone who's already passed through what we're going through, to make us realise that we're not alone in our fears and desires, and that it's possible to achieve our dreams a little step at a time, starting from nothing.

You can enjoy one of her videos for little ones, too.

LISTEN UP, and then go and CREATE YOUR DREAM.
