Late-Night Cabal

By Part Time Mystic Media

Those who listened to pirate radio frequencies in the 1980s may have heard rumours of a man known only as "The Host", who for a brief time broadcast his mysterious show Late-Night Cabal, to listeners across the USA. The show claimed to be a definitive documentary work chronicling the history of the infamous cult, The Children of the Empty Throne.

Many thought the show lost to history, until two years ago, when a collection of recorded episodes were discovered in a Chicago attic. They are now listenable for the first time in almost 40 years.

Ep. 3: Sponsored Placement — Mystic Fog [Sic] Jewelry and Healing Crystals

One of several "Sponsored placements" aired throughout the run of Late-Night Cabal. Like many of the show's supposed patrons, little evidence of Mystic Smoke's existence remains, let alone proof of the claims made concerning their healing crystals. More likely, Mystic Smoke was a code word used to refer to a specific safe house where the Host was at the time hiding, though this is more speculation than proven fact.

Ep. 2: May 3, 1974 — State Troopers Greene + Morgan

On the night of May 3rd, 1974, two state troopers in Arkansas responded to reports of a break-in and discovered something which would change the course of history for those connected to the cult known as The Children of the Empty Throne.

In loving memory of Kenneth Welsh. To be in his presence was to be in the warm glow of the stage lights as the music swelled and the curtain rose. Now the show has ended, the audience is being ushered out and we will all have much to remember from his great performances, which we all were so lucky to witness.

Without you, there is no Late-Night Cabal. Rest In Peace.

Ep. 1: The present — An introduction from The Host

Recorded in the early 1980s, we believe this to be the first episode of Late-Night Cabal ever aired on pirate radio frequencies. At the time, few people knew of the show's existence and it was likely only listened to by a handful of people.

Originally recorded on Maxell XLII-S 90 IEC Type II High (CrO2) magnetic tape.
