I can sum up this episode in 4 words. Power, Hustlers, Privilege, and Trolls. It's another 'Haute Takes' episode so it's a short one, you might only need one mug of tea or coffee to get through it but you don’t want to miss it. Take a listen below, and if you or anyone you know is interested in taking me up on my offer and sharing the mic with me on a candid discussion about women's health please let me know! You can reach via email or slide in my DMs.
If you've followed me for a while then you know I'm a huge music buff, and not just a music buff but a band nerd. I've played the flute since I was about 11, marched for 6 years, was all-city and all-state, played in jazz bands as well as concert bands, and I was even the head drum major my senior year in high school! The one thing I didn’t do that I really wanted to do was join a core band, but they only march brass instruments and I played a woodwind. Band was always a big part of my life, so when I got the opportunity to cover this year's National Battle of the Band competition in Houston I pounced on it. I have a full blog post coming later this week on that, but I wanted to share some band memories with y'all and have two very special guests come on and share their band memories as well. My parents! They were truly by my side throughout all of those years, so I figured they'd be the perfect guests for this episode.
Take a listen below and stroll down memory lane with me, and when you're finished with this episode do yourself a favor and check out The Score Podcast, especially if you're into music education and band stuff like this. One of the hosts is actually one of my former drum majors in high school and he's since directed a few bands, turned one high school's band program around and is just doing great things in his field. You can check them out on Instagram (@podthescore) or on their podcast's page.
Whew!! So much happened last week! Power came back for it's sixth and final season, Popeyes and Chik-Fil-A went head to head over chicken sandwiches, I had a Twitter Party for the Fandemic Tour that will be here this Fall and I had an emergency therapy session to help me deal with finding my balance and rhythm in my new roles. You know, your typical week in August, right? Grab a cup of coffee or tea and listen to my theory about the sudden change in theme songs on 'Power', and you might even be able to find out who I think had the better chicken sandwich on this week's episode!
As always you can email or DM me if you have any questions or comments, and let me know if there are any topics you'd like to hear discussed on the show. I love y'all's input.
Guess what!? Your girl is 31…and I brought in the big day by myself. At home.
And I loved it!
I did something I don't think I've ever done by celebrating my birthday at home recharging, and I'm talking about that sharing 31 lessons I've learned in 31 years in today's podcast episode. But hey, don't cry for me Argentina. One of the things I've learned from my step-mom is that birthdays are meant to celebrated the entire month so I'll be doing my part to give back and hitting up a few restaurants for Houston Restaurant Weeks, so please let me know if you wanna treat ya girl! Take listen below and let me know some of your favorite birthday memories.
Oh! I mentioned the Fandemic Tour at the top of last week's show, but I wanted to make sure y'all had a link for the tickets. Get your GA and VIP passes here.
I know I said that this week's episode would be a behind the scenes type one with a blogger, but we're going to put a pin in that one for now. Keep your questions coming and I'll be sure to ask them when I get her on the mic! In the meantime I wanted to do a brain dump episode of sorts and get a few things off my chest. From the mass shootings from this past weekend, to wealthy parents gaming the federal financial aid system, to Sarah trying to Columbus headscarves. So grab a mug of coffee or tea and take a listen below!
Please tell me you read that title to the tune of Jeezy's hit "My President", if you didn't take 3 seconds and do it. It makes this post and episode that much better.
If you can't tell by now, this episode is all about Disney and more specifically their recent live-action reboots. Between the announcement of Halle Bailey as Ariel in the upcoming live action remake of the 'Little Mermaid', the release of 'Lion King' almost two weeks ago, and the release of 'Aladdin' the month before that there's been no shortage of Disney content for the world. I know that I've loved all of the diversity that the company has shown in their castings recently, but unfortunately that wasn't the case for everyone.
But wait, there's more! They showed the previews for a few upcoming releases before 'Lion King' and I'm beyond pumped about those. I'll be sharing a bit about that, as well as my love for the soundtrack Beyoncé executive produced for the reboot. The title of the album was perfect, because it truly is a gift for us all.
So grab a coffee or tea and listen to this week's episode; you may even hear a random mention of an even more random holiday! Oh! And next week's episode is one you don't want to miss either. If all goes as planned I'll be interviewing one of my favorite bloggers and dear friend who is not new to this blogging game. She's been blogging for about 10 years now and has a wealth of knowledge about it. If there's anything you want to ask her please feel free to email me or DM and I'll be sure to ask them on the show!
Another week, another podcast episode! Like I said before, I had really good feedback and interest on these dating chronicles podcast episodes so I wanted to do a part 4 with a different panel. I feel like this week's episode is a nice balance of last week's. We have Los, Kerristen and Taylor Brione on the show discussing all things dating. Online dating vs in-person dating, lessons in love, settling and even the art of dating multiple people at a time! You don't want to miss it so tune in below and remember to follow this week's hosts!
Kerristen - @itskerristen and @eunoiaherbals
Taylor - @taylorbrione
Carlos - @los_thadean
I know, I know! Two episodes in one week?! This is actually supposed to be the week where I share music with you guys instead of a new 'Le Haute Paire' episode, but we recorded so much good content this past weekend I couldn't wait to share it with you.
I guess I would consider this a bonus episode of sorts, but it's a LONG bonus episode. My co-hosts for this episode are two women I look up to, though I'm sure both of them are younger than me. Both of them are not only captains of their industries, but they're passionate about something I'm equally passionate about: women's health rights and normalizing the topic of sex when it comes to women. We've had so many versions of this conversation offline, and it dawned on me that I needed to get this recorded.
This episode isn't for the faint of heart. We're talking about menstrual cycles, STI & STDs, the joys of birth control and even myths that we've heard along the years about it.
Be sure to follow this episode's co-hosts:
Bri - @itsbrilew and check out her blog 'Unprocessed Lifestyle'
Stephanie - @missbension and check out her websites 'Stephanie Bension' and 'Sophistiratchet'
We're back sooner than expected with another episode! Last week I shared a post on Instagram about a recent dating woe and said that I was ready to spill some tea...well whiskey and wanted to know if anyone wanted to join me on the mic. Well quite a few people raised their digital hands, enough that there will be a part four of this coming out pretty soon! This week I was joined by Cece and Taylor as well as friend of the show, Jordan! Yep, that Jordan!
We're talking all things dating this episode: our own personal wins and fails, dating in a new city, settling down vs having a #hotgirlsummer, and even that viral Twitter thread from last week where user Bob Phondo essentially told us that he's marrying his mom. Grab a mug of coffee, tea or whatever adult beverage you've been favoring and take a listen!
Oh, and be sure to follow this week's co-hosts!
Taylor - @taylor.marier
Cece - @cecelyfe
Jordan - @lovealwaysjojo
Okay, I know that I said that I wouldn't be reviewing the entire season of 'Euphoria', and I honestly didn't plan on it but a friend of mine reached out to me on Instagram and told me that he liked the show as well and was interested in jumping on the mic and discussing it with me for y'all. Who am I to say no to that?!
While I like recording episodes by myself, I love having a co-host or a guest and James was perfect for this episode! I met him a few years ago at a YP event and found out shortly before I left my previous firm that he was actually one of my tenants! He's not new to the podcasting world either, he's the former co-host of 'The Urbanist Unfiltered' and 'Imprint' podcasts, and by day he's a marketing consultant! If you guys want to give him a follow you can find him on Twitter and Instagram at @LetItReign and on Facebook at @JamesForTexas.
But before we started our discussion of this intense HBO series I wanted share my thoughts on the dope news about Halle Bailey being cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action version of 'The Little Mermaid'. She's great for the role, is a good actress and has the voice of an angel! I'm looking forward to seeing her knock it out of the park when the movie is released. So y'all know the drill, grab a coffee, water or some lemonade to cool you off in this summer heat and tune in to today's episode!
Y'all! This show has me hooked! I mentioned in Tuesday's episode that I would do a mini episode about the HBO show 'Euphoria'. I hadn't planned on giving this show a real chance. I'd seen a few previews for it before GOT episodes, and figured I'd watch a few minutes of the first episode and that's all it took for me to now want to watch the entire season.
I love Zendaya as an actress, and seeing her in this role is something that's a full 180 from what we've seen her in in the past. High school was wild, but I don't remember it being that wild. Maybe I just didn’t run in those crowds? Either way, I hope you guys take a listen to this mini episode and check it out as well. Please note that this show is rated TV-MA for a reason. There's quite a bit of drug usage, nudity and cursing in it. It comes on at 9PM for a reason. So don't watch it around your kids! Let me know if you've tuned in or if you plan on tuning in below!
Last week was not the easiest one. We're in the middle of budgets at work and the stress of that and other things manifested physically in my life. I didn't hit my minimum steps each day, I woke up with pounding headaches multiple days last week and I just wasn't myself. I was actually in the middle of drafting up the outline for a different kind of podcast episode when something a friend of the show, Xav started echoing in my head.
What if we don't keep that same energy?
The phrase "keep that same energy" is one that's been popular for a few years now and is usually reserved to let someone know that you'll be reciprocating that same foul energy someone has given to you. I can't lie, I've done it before. I've even said it before aloud and via text like:
🗣KEEP THAT SAME ENERGY
But Xav brought up a good point, what if you don't? What if instead you decide to give the kind of energy you want to receive? I'm diving into that and the flip side of the phrase on how to not give away all of your energy. I don't know if y'all know this, but I'm an extroverted introvert. I am great in crowds and I'm definitely a people person, but I can't be "on" all of the time, and it's not uncommon for me to take a day or maybe even two after a particularly tough week to recharge. I'll keep my phone on 'Do Not Disturb' and take self-care days. This episode is short and sweet, and I'd love your feedback on it. There have been a few times where I wanted to sit down in front of the mic and vent, but I'm not sure if these are the types of episodes y'all would want to listen to. So let me know if y'all don't mind episodes like this, or even if you want more!
No, your ears didn't deceive you the intro is different! I've wanted to change up our intro for a little while now and I'm testing this one out to see how it feels. In fact, if y'all like it let me know and I might keep it. If you can't stand it let me know too.
So I'm back at it again…and alone on the mic once again. Scheduling conflicts kept Tavaria from recording with me, but that's okay. In fact, I might do a B-Side to this episode and have her share some of her own unconventional tips to help maintain your mental health. I'm also spilling tea and talking about the benefits of a good orgasm so you might not want to listen to this episode with your kids or have it playing over the speakers at work. Just a suggestion! Take a listen and let me know what you think!
This episode is not what it was originally planned to be. I was supposed to be back on the mic with Tavaria discussing the goings on of the world and our lives, but I felt like that episode needed to go on the back-burner for something a bit more deep. Yesterday marked the 16th anniversary of my mom's passing and while I feel like I'm in a good place as far as grieving goes now, it took some time for me to get there. This episode starts out a bit heavy with the "pain" segment, but then lightens up and throws me back to my adolescent years with the "joy" segment. I went to the Millennium Tour stop in Houston this past weekend and CUT UP! I'm talking about my shenanigans and more on this episode so grab a drink, take a seat and tune in!
AND WE'RE BACK! I'm so happy to have my cousin back on the mic with me this week! We actually recorded this last week right after Nipsey died so of course we had speak about how his life and death affected not only his loved ones, but his fans and total strangers! May he rest in honor and may people continue his good work.
We also had to give you guys the update with Pastor "Saving Souls and Psyching Sistas"! Voicemails that he left his mistress recently leaked, cementing what we already knew and you know that Tavaria and I had to go in on him! What a shame!
I don't want to give the entire episode away, but we also touched on the now bankrupt Wow Air and what to do when your flight is delayed or canceled. But I think the biggest news of all was Tavaria's surgery announcement! She's gone under the knife and made it out on the other side, but she blessed us with a few of her thoughts leading up to the life-changing surgery as well as her reasoning behind her decision to go under the knife. We plan on recording another episode this weekend where she gives us an update and tells us her experience thus far. I can already tell y'all that that conversation is going to be full of food and laughter. Don't be afraid to reach out if you have any questions about her surgery! Check out the episode below and please forgive us for the constant beeping of Tavaria's smoke detector. I keep telling her to do better.
I'm back with another episode, and this time it's just me on the mic! Ah! I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous recording an entire episode by myself but I had some stuff to get off of my chest. I saw this Twitter thread on Facebook and wanted to share it with y'all and share my thoughts on it, as well as some dating advice I would give my younger self. In fact, if you're following me on Instagram (which you should be) then you probably already saw a few of these and maybe even submitted some of your own nuggets of advice. I shared some of your pieces of advice on this episode as well! I'm thinking about making this a regular series, so I'd love to get more of your lessons to your younger selves. Please feel free to email or DM me and let me know what you think about this episode as well as what you would tell your younger self about dating and relationships.
I know, I know. I typically publish a Le Haute Paire episode every other week, but this one was just too good for me to sit on for a week. Xav joins me this week and we're discussing all things Black, cancel culture, Beyoncé, the importance of naps and even veganism! Reading all of that makes it sound a bit like it's all over the place, but I promise it all flows.
I've only known Xav for a little over a month, but it felt like I was sitting down and talking with an old friend as we talked about what it was like being a speck of pepper in certain situations, and how even though we grew up states apart we have shared experiences. He's always on the move, speaking to students and young adults about empowerment and when he's not doing that he's sharing his love of all things plant based with the world on Instagram (@theplantbasedbrotha) and Youtube. In fact, he's gearing up to launch the website next month so stay tuned for that!
In the meantime, enjoy this episode and feel free to reach out to me or Xav via email or DMs if you have any questions or feedback!
Valentines Day is this week, so I thought a follow-up episode to our Millennial Dating one was long-overdue! I have Rhys back on the mic with me and we're sharing updates on our relationships (or lack thereof), talking about hot topics like B. Smith and Ciara and even sharing our Valentine plans. So grab your boo (current or long-term) and take a listen below!
Remember that you can always reach out to me at @andallthatjazie on Instagram and Twitter, and you can find Rhys at @rhysism on Instagram and @rhysism_ on Twitter!
Hey y'all! I'm back with another episode, and this one's about a topic that's REALLY close to my heart. TRAVELING! I'm joined this week by a friend who I actually met in a Facebook group about traveling, and I knew that I had to have Armond join me for this week's show because he's passionate about this subject as well. So grab a cup of coffee or tea, sit back and grab a pen because we'll be sharing some of our favorite traveling tips and tricks that we've picked up throughout our years of exploring the world!
And we're back with another episode! This time I'm interviewing someone I've known and respected for a LONG time. We ran in the same circles in high school, but didn't meet officially until we interned together. Since then she's gone on to do GREAT things both professionally and personally and I knew I had to have her on LHP. Terah's dropping all kinds of knowledge in today's episode and I have to encourage you to follow her new Youtube channel where she'll be sharing even more knowledge with y'all about financial freedom, couponing, planning and tidying tools!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! We're back with another episode of 'Le Haute Paire' and my friend, Nisha is co-hosting this episode with me. Instead of the standard "new year, new me" vibe we're discussing "new year, new beginnings"! We're discussing goals, resolutions and literal new beginnings! So take a listen and let us know your 'One Little Word' or new years resolutions!
We are back because we couldn't stay away. This topic has been on quite a few tongues recently and we Tavaria and I wanted to dive into the mess that is 'struggle love'. We were taught to "say no to drugs" at a young age, but no one said anything about struggle love. Well all of that is changing now and we're shedding some light and dropping some knowledge today. From Cardi to kids of divorce, there isn't much that's off-limits in today's episode so grab holiday drink and tune in!
We're diving into a deep topic on this episode of 'Le Haute Paire' with one of my friends! Mallory and I are talking about our mental health wellness journey; how we've grown because we allowed ourselves to be vulnerable and talk about the hard things. We also shared a few laughs, busted up some myths and she even shared some news about a few dope upcoming events! Grab a mug of coffee or tea, take a listen and be sure to leave us your feedback!
Hey y'all! We are back with another episode of 'Le Haute Paire'!! My cousin is back on the mic with me and it feels like home, and y'all know we had to go in on some current events as well as share some ways to respectfully hold your ground during the holidays. Thanksgiving is next week and you might have some people at the dinner table who need a clapback so we shared some tips on how to do that and avoid getting smacked by your parents.
We also discussed some election results, victories and upsets and how this is an exciting time for Dems! We even touched on some of the tragedies that have occurred in California recently and wanted to share some resources with y'all in case you feel inclined to contribute to the wildfire relief efforts.
Remember to keep not only those who have had to evacuate the area in your thoughts and prayers, but the brave women and men who the emergency personnel, and those volunteering their time to fight the fires.
This is a special episode of 'Le Haute Paire'! It's Halloween this week so I'm sharing some of my fun memories and why I'm still not a fan of scary movies, but I also get to interview a really awesome author/executive trainer/professor/global speaker/Wonder Woman! Orobosa Owie is joining me for this episode and we're talking about how it's okay not to be okay, but that you shouldn't stay that way.
Hey y'all! We're back again with another episode of Le Haute Paire, and once again we're touching on a deep topic. Pressure. It's something we deal with when it comes to society, our family, friends, strangers on social media, it's honestly everywhere. We discussed some of the pressures that we as women face, and other pressures that we had to deal with growing up. We know that these weren't the only ones who had to deal with them, and we hope that our discussion and tips help you deal with the pressures you're facing, or at least open your eyes and spark the conversation on how to best deal with them. We'd love to hear from y'all so feel free to comment below or send us a message!

We're back with another episode and this one's another heavy topic: bullying. Yesterday was 'World Suicide Prevention Day' and we thought what better time to talk about this than now. We see it in the news all the time, kids committing suicide because they were bullied, adults carrying that hurt from their younger years and lashing out and even bullying in the workplace. This is a topic that we as a society know all too well, whether you were the bully or if you were bullied this episode is for you. Please feel free to join the conversation by messaging us on Instagram or Twitter.
Just as the title of this blog post suggests, we're talking about topics that are typically seen as taboo in the Black community. Therapy, domestic violence and predators are just a few of the things we're discussing as well as the all day event that was Auntie Aretha's (fune)ral. So grab your coffee or tea and hit play below! Don't forget that you can join the conversation by leaving us comments below or reaching out to us on our social media platforms, Twitter and Instagram.
We were gone for a minute, now we're back with the jump-off…well more like a new podcast episode. We took a bit of a break, but we're back and talking about one of our favorite topics.
We're talking about some of the things we need in relationships, a "King" vs "Prince Charming", how some of our favorite R&B bops from the 90's were actually trash, and of course some of our favorite celebrity couples. So do yourself a favor and pour yourself a cup of tea (or fix a glass of sweet tea if you're in the South like us) and get ready to nod along and yell at your speaker/computer/headphones/whatever device you use to listen to this episode.
This week's podcast is about a topic near and dear to a lot women's hearts. Hair. Tav and I dive deep into the world of natural hair, weaves and perms oh my! We talk about products that remind us of our childhood, products we love today; and we even discuss weaves vs extensions (spoiler alert: THEY'RE THE SAME THING).
Hey y'all! We're back with another episode of Le Haute Paire, and this episode is kind of a continuation of last week's post! We shared some tips on how to get the most of out of a trip to the rodeo as well as some of our favorite rodeo memories. Tav talked about the time when she witnessed Patti LaBelle throw her shoe in person, and I even mentioned the time my ex won me a stuffed Nemo that was almost as big as me! We also talked about our favorite rodeo concerts and of course, Selena's famous one came up.
We're back with another episode of 'Le Haute Paire', and this week's episode is one that's close to my heart. The topic of police brutality, especially in minority communities has been a hot topic these past few years. It's not something that's new, people are just speaking up more often about it now. Whether it's because we're fed up or because social media has allowed us to let the world see what's been going on this topic has been in the news quite a bit recently.
I wanted to bring on two guests I think were perfect for this topic. Not only are they adults that I've looked up to my whole life because they're my aunt and uncle, but they have decades of peace officer experience between the two of them. Almost 40 years in fact. I wanted them to come on because people have misconstrued the 'Black Lives Matter' message and movement, and I knew that they could set it straight and in a way that everyone could understand.
We're back at it again with another episode of 'Le Haute Paire'!! This week's episode is exactly what my spirit needed, a little bit of girl talk! We were joined by Jae and Jordan, two wonderful ladies who dropped gems on a wide variety of topics. So take check out the episode below and listen to us go in on John Gray's 'Spirit of a Wife' sermon, our current beauty routines, the 'Times Up' movement and more!
We know it's a new year, but we wanted to take it back a bit...well a lot! This episode is all about our childhood and how we grew up. From the reason behind why Jaz now avoids top bunks to Tav getting chased by bees while selling "perfume" (baby food jars filled with flowers and water) we have it all!
We took a different approach with this week's episode, and decided to only talk about one thing. Relationships. Whether you're swiping right on a Tinderella or Fella or you have the movie worthy meet cute, this episode is for you!
Hey y’all and happy new year! We’re back with a new episode for the new year, and we even have a guest host helping us out. Bianca sat down with us and discussed her health transformation, and even gave us fitness tips. We also talked about having a healthy mind, finances and relationships! Take […] The post Le Haute Paire – EP 005 – New Year New Me appeared first on Le Haute Jaz.
We’re back at it again with another episode of ‘Le Haute Paire’, and this one’s a recap of the year. Between highs like Black Girl Magic/Black Boy Joy and all of the men in power being outed for their sexual misconduct, and lows like the repealing of Net Neutrality we had a lot to […] The post LE HAUTE PAIRE – EP 004 – Reclaiming My Time appeared first on Le Haute Jaz.
And I’m back like I never left with another episode of ‘Le Haute Paire’!! We have a holiday episode for y’all this time that we recorded right before Thanksgiving so it’s full of our favorite dishes and holiday traditions. We also shared some of our holiday staples as far as music goes, so please feel […] The post Le Haute Paire – Ep 003 – Gobble Gobble appeared first on Le Haute Jaz.
I know it’s been a few weeks since the last ‘Le Haute Paire’ episode, but we got some pretty good feedback and decided to keep recording! The title of this week’s episode is “Gumbo” because we have a whole lot of goodness in it and we hope y’all like it! We’re touching on a […] The post Le Haute Paire – Ep002 – Gumbo appeared first on Le Haute Jaz.
I know I usually share a song or a playlist with you guys on Tuneage Tuesday, but this week is going to be something a little bit different.
