Ashley Whillans is the Volpert Family Associate Professor at the Harvard Business School. Professor Whillans earned her PhD in Social Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Her research seeks to understand the associations between time, money, and subjective wellbeing. She is particularly interested in understanding how individual, organizational and societal factors like gender, workplace policies, and income inequality predict how people value and spend time and money, with possible implications for well-being.

Richelle holds a BS in Business Administration from the University at Albany, and was awarded “Most Outstanding Young Alumni of 2008”.

In this episode, I am talking to Mar Diteos CEO Chilli Beans USA - the most popular sunglasses and watches retailer in Brazil and Latin America.

Mar started her career in Mexico at Banco Santander while pursuing her Master's Degree. During her 9 years with the company she rose through the ranks and went from Planning and Management Control Analyst to Director of Product Marketing. She relocated to Chile for the last 4 years with the company. After 9 years with Banco Santanger in LATAM, Mar moved to the United States and completed a Master's degree in Management at Harvard University before she secured her CEO job in Los Angeles.

In this episode, we talked about how she is leading the way through the changing retail landscape and impacting lives. 

In a separate episode (just after this one) we also talked about how she progressed at Banco Santander and how to became a CEO in the United States after having built a career in Latin America. We unpacked the different steps she took, decisions she made and skills she needed.

We also covered the importance of having multiple income streams and how to manage a side business while having a demanding job and how to balance it all.
