This Isn't About Me

This Isn't About Me

By Leanne Velky

This is a podcast about all of the incredible humans I know. We chat about their story, what they offer the world and I'll always ask for a tangible life tip or takeaway so you get the most out of your time here. This is NOT a podcast where I just want to talk about ME. This is a podcast about other people. Where I ask probing questions and listen to their stories. I can't wait to share my humans with you!

Choosing who we are, and get to be every day, with Stacey Friedman

Choosing who we are, and get to be every day, with Stacey Friedman

I'm thrilled to introduce you to my beautiful, powerful, magical friend and mentor, Stacey Friedman! On this episode of This Isn't About Me, Stacey and I talked a lot about being a woman, the many iterations of SELF and being human... who we have BEEN and who we get to CHOOSE to be this year, next year, next season, etc. And of course a bit about being an Empath.

I met Stacey a handful of years ago at an event and have stayed connected with her ever since. There's something powerful and magical about her and her ability to hold space for the humans in her world.

2 years ago, on Valentine's Day (2021), I attended one of Stacey's free workshops on being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) / Empath and that hour literally changed my ENTIRE life. Suddenly everything that had ever happened to me made complete sense. I will always cherish this memory. We discuss my entire "empath epiphany" on this episode of Stacey's Podcast (Sensitive Soul Support).

*A few swears sprinkled in this episode, per usual*

Exploring Inclusion and Pronouns with Kristy Ware

Exploring Inclusion and Pronouns with Kristy Ware

This episode with my dear friend Kristy Ware (they/them) was so so good.  We talk about Kristy's career transition as they've moved from being exclusively a health and wellbeing coach into their role as a Workplace Inclusion teacher and coach over the past 5 years (since we met!). It's been a lifetime of learning and stepping in for Kristy and I'm so grateful we got to share this story on this episode. We also dove pretty heavy into pronouns and what it's like to have options these days.

I got A LOT out of this conversation - one I was, truthfully, a bit nervous to have because I have never really had it before but Kristy made me feel so safe to ask some of these questions and to explore some of these concepts. Go find Kristy, bring them in to teach you and your team, and buy their books!!

Note: we also mentioned the books The Big Leap and The Woman They Could Not Silence if you want to remember those titles and pick them up!

About Kristy:

Kristy Ware (they/them) is a Health & Well-Being Expert, Speaker and Author of Synergize Your Health - The 6 Elements for Greater Vitality & Joy and Dismantling The Obstacles to Workplace Inclusion. Kristy inspires individuals and organizations to take action toward creating equitable, inclusive and healthy workplaces.

Kristy has over 20 years combined experience in leadership, coaching and consulting. They weave together powerful stories, current research, and effective strategies to uplift, inspire and educate. Expertly using their contagious energy and straightforward approach, Kristy sparks audiences to take conscious steps toward implementing change. They live in Vernon BC with their wife and son.

Power in the PAUSE with David Delisle

Power in the PAUSE with David Delisle

In this episode I'm joined by my very good friend, David Delisle, Author of The Golden Quest, Founder of The Awesome Stuff, Investor and dad.

Per usual, this episode runs all over the place but the common thread we pulled out was David's unique way of approaching the world in just approaching it with open, non-seeking curiosity. A common theme that emerged was there's immense power in the PAUSE that comes after creating a joy benchmark.

We covered you Awesome Stuff, seeing kids through a lens of curiosity and empathy, masculinity and crying and being mindful to create a richer life.

Hope you enjoy this conversation and getting to know David. Leave us your feedback!

A bit about David:

At age 11, David made his first investment and by age 20 had begun investing in real estate. Learning the power of compound growth at such a young age enabled David to quickly become a self-proclaimed finance nerd and semi-retired by age 40. When he realized he wanted to pass his knowledge on to his two young sons, David began compiling notes into what would eventually become his first book, a graphic novel called The Golden Quest, that was published in 2022.

The book, and much of what David shares, is centered around seemingly simple concepts (young children grasp these concepts with ease) that hold the power to transform your mindset and everyday habits. David offers us a new way to think about money by noticing the weight of our words, choices, actions and the world around us.

You can find David on Instagram @TheAwesomeStuff and you can pick up a copy of The Golden Quest through his website www.theawesomestuff.com or on Amazon.

Entrepreneurial Volunteerism with Jill Valentine

Entrepreneurial Volunteerism with Jill Valentine

Oh how my heart loved this conversation with Jill Valentine, founder of UGO Impact! I knew very little about Jill and her mission before this episode which you will hear in my semi-stunned and lost for words voice throughout this episode. We dive deep into volunteering and giving back both locally and internationally and everything in between. I'm so passionate about the topic of volunteering and was pleasantly surprised as this conversation unfolded.

My favorite part was right at the end in "Happy people don't start wars." Ain't that the truth. When you find purpose and fulfilment through being of service to the world at large, you are scientifically happier and happy, content with their life people don't start wars. They just don't.

I hope you are as inspired to get involved, if even in some small way, after listening to this episode as I was! Please leave your feedback for us and let us know your favorite part of this episode!

Here's a bit about Jill and her company:

Jill Valentine is the CEO and Transformational Travel & Life Purpose Coach of her social enterprise, UGO Impact. She leverages the power of travel and volunteerism as tools for creating profound personal change for her clients and social change for communities in need.

Jill provides her clients with the clarity, confidence and community to live the life they dream of full of purpose and meaning, while they volunteer abroad in communities in need around the world including Belize, Nepal, Tanzania, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

She is the creator of the UGO Triple Change Effect Model and author of Dare to be a Dandelion.  As an adventurer and a passionate force for good she has volunteered thousands of hours for over 30 local and international organizations in a myriad of capacities.

Jill lives by the words, “Let’s Make it Happen” and is inspiring her daughter to do the same.

Designing Your Life on Purpose & Choosing Your Words with Cheri Honeycutt

Designing Your Life on Purpose & Choosing Your Words with Cheri Honeycutt

On this week's episode of This Isn't About Me podcast I am THRILLED to share my sweet friend Cheri Honeycutt.

Oh goodness I LOVED this conversation so so so much. We had a wonderfully soulful conversation about Cheri's business - Design Your Life on Purpose - which led us to an incredible conversation all about WORDS. The power of our words is so so much and this conversation was LIFE for me. You KNOW I loved that conversation so much.

During the conversation, Cheri mentioned a super helpful "wheel of emotions." Upon a quick Google search, I found this version you can use if it's helpful for you! https://www.visualcapitalist.com/a-visual-guide-to-human-emotion/

Cheri also talks about an acronym for F.E.A.R being Find Evidence of your Actual Reality. This powerful tool allowed her to calm herself in a moment of panic - let us know if this helps you over time as well.

- - - - - - - - -

Cheri Honeycutt, M.Ed. is the Founder of Design Your Life On Purpose Coaching. She is a life coach, speaker, trainer, and podcaster who is hell-bent on helping people design the life they have always intended. . . on purpose. She wants to shout from the top of tall buildings, “Wake up! Stop living by default! It’s time to live the life you REALLY want!”

She’s passionate about this because she spent too many years just getting by, drifting along, second-guessing herself, and not having much of what she wanted. A single mom with two children with special needs, happiness seemed like a pipe dream. In truth, in those “not so hot” years she was in fact crafting a plan to live her purpose and have the life she really wanted. She was designing her ideal life and now she wants to help others do this too.

Cheri offers individual and group coaching, corporate workshops, keynote speeches and more. Her podcast “Design Your Life On Purpose” can be found on iTunes or anywhere you listen. Her books are available on Amazon (under her former name Britton). To contact Cheri or learn more about her work visit www.cherihoneycutt.com.

Numerology and Healing with Special Guest Heather Ruth

Numerology and Healing with Special Guest Heather Ruth

In this episode I chatted with my sweet friend Heather Ruth about a whole bunch of things but mostly how obsessed we both are with numerology! If you haven't learned about numerology yet, you'll hear Heather and I get pretty excited about the information, validation and depth available to us through this incredible tool. I hope you enjoy listening to us banter and giggle as we talk hard life stuff (dark places), parenting and, of course, numerology.

About Heather:

Heather Ruth is an Intuitive Connection & Integration Coach, Master Numerologist, Reiki Practitioner, Conscious Guide, Speaker, Writer and Mama bear to two lights in this world.

Heather has immersed herself in the ebb and flow of the universe by studying influences of numbers, consciousness, cultures, nature and spiritual connection. She has also dove heart first into the world of understanding Trauma ~ and how as coaches we can help those suffering break generation patterns and trauma.

As we heal we heal others especially our children.

Heather has a grand vision of ending generational trauma; our children do not deserve to carry, unpack or resolve the struggles we have as parents. In this vision it’s Heather’s desire to see a world where our roots run deep, connection is felt and experienced daily through practices like meditation, journaling, contemplation and stillness.
