Let's Talk about Leadership

This podcast episode explores the intersections of Storytelling and Leadership. Over the course of the past few years, the concept of “storytelling” has risen in popularity. Fernando Lara (Filmmaker, Producer, Editor) focuses on this concept of “storytelling” as well, and after putting our heads together- we realized that exploring storytelling through art (and video medium) and the intersection with leadership was certainly a topic we wanted to explore together.

This episode features a conversation with Utah's Poet Laureate, Paisley Rekdal. We explore some of the many incredible poets who have used anti-racism poetry as a leadership tool in the fight for racial justice. We discuss the intersectionality of anti-racist poetry, highlight poets of Black and Indigenous communities, and think about how poetry can be used as a tool to interrogate policy, systems of oppression, and more. 

What does leadership looks like during times of crisis? How do we (as leaders), navigate the process of leading others when we ourselves may be scared or uncertain about the crisis we are in? I'm Erica Andersen, Director of Student Leadership & Involvement at the University of Utah, in this episode, I interview Lauren Weitzman, PH.D., Director of the Counseling Center at the University of Utah. Together, we explore these questions and discuss strategies for how to lead during times of uncertainty, how we practice care (for our selves and others) while leading in a crisis, and more.
