Social Isolation Series - EP01 - Just Chatting
Hey everyone!
Terribly sorry for the uh.... unexpected hiatus, but we are back! Mostly... well we are 100% back but doing a more casual thing for the moment, just because of the whole... situation going on. ANYWAYS, we are going to do periodic updates, which are less focused on a particular thing, but more just whatever comes up. Here's a hint, it will almost always be gaming-themed ;)
Please enjoy the first episode of the Social Isolation series :D

EP 31 - Ultimate Game Night
It's game night, everyone is still trying to settle in, some are growing restless. Why not kick things off with a light warm-up? Well Bezier Games got you covered. The One Night series of games has simple rules, can be finished in about 20 minutes, and with the use of the apps, requires no moderator! With a variety of options, such as Werewolf, Vampire, Aliens, and Supervillains, something is bound to be popular. These are great for family game night (we'd give it a PG-13), or for roleplaying groups that are improv-heavy. Grab one, or two and have a few laughs :)

EP29 - Rolling Twenties
Unlike what you may be thinking. This episode is actually about twentieth anniversaries. Specifically the one for the World of Darkness 20th Anniversary edition books. Raspathir, and Banjo spend a good bit of time reviewing the books, the contents, as well as providing a lot of commentary on the World of Darkness as a whole. They.... mostly kept on topic this time ;)

EP27 - The Painted Monk (Lost Episode!)
Raspathir regales us with the continuing story of Silas the artistically-inclined monk. Just as in many Dungeons & Dragons games questionable decisions are made, monsters are slain, and injuries are inflicted. Once in a while, things get more serious.

EP28 - Weave
After a long a long, and unexpected break. Raspathir, and Banjo are finally behind the microphones once again. This time they're taking it a little easier, but they do manage to have a short discussion about a card-based roleplaying game called Weave.

EP26 - Building Character
After a BRIEF recap of Keyforge, Raspathir, and Banjo have a lovely chat about character creation as it pertains to the roleplaying hobby. This is not an episode about how to fill out a sheet though. This is more about how to create a -character-.

EP25 - Keyforge
Keyforge is a collectable deck game that hopes to solve many of the issues that Magic: The Gathering(tm), and similar games have. Designed by Richard Garfield (of M:TG, and RoboRally fame), this game focuses on creating balance while giving players a fulfilling deck battling experience. Many of the concepts in this game will be familiar to CCG players but there are enough important differences to make it unique.

EP24 - D&D vs. Everyone
This episode was a long-time coming, and we have finally cracked. With so many tabletop RPG titles out there one would think that it would be fairly easy to find folks that wanted to play something other than "Popular Fantasy RPG(tm)". But no. At least not in our experiences. So far most folks want to play that fantasy RPG that they see everywhere, and may not even be aware that other genres of gaming exist.

EP23 - How to be a Murder Hobo
It has been several weeks since the last update on Raspathir's D&D game so here it is! If you haven't guessed by the title. Things went horribly wrong. We almost got away with it too, but the players just -had- to ruin that...

S02-Halloween Special: The Color Out of Space
This is an extra special episode, as we are presenting it uncut, and commercial free (as the saying goes). What you are about to hear, is an audio rendition of H.P. Lovecraft's story "The Color Out of Space". Narrated by Donalb, and uploaded to The Internet Archive by Toby_Doggle.
Please support the Internet Archive, and leave a review for Donalb for his excellent reading of the story. Links are available below.

EP22 - The Call of Cthulhu
Way ahead of schedule we enter the second of our spoopy edition episodes. Call of Cthulhu is a roleplaying game that takes a slightly different approach to the "horror" aspects. For those uninitiated, this game is based off of the "Cthulhu Mythos" published by H.P Lovecraft. There is also a bit of how to run a better horror game In the second half.

EP21 - This is a Dark Place
WARNING: This game contains mature themes!
In typical late fashion, we kick off a "Spoopy" series of episodes that focus on more horror-themed games. This one is all about "In Dark Alleys". A game of modern horror by independent publisher Vajra Enterprises. This game has loads of interesting character options, dark plots that put black holes to shame, and a system (Organic Rule Components), which can add hyper realism to any campaign.

EP20 - Cleanse the Palate
Sometimes games run too long, players get bored of the same old thing, and you need a change of pace. That was the plan anyways. But as usual with this podcast, Banjo takes the opportunity to check in with Raspathir (self-care reminder!). That leads to YET ANOTHER cathartic rant, but fortunately the boys are able to use that energy in the second half to get back on topic. A palate cleanser for the hosts, as well as actual advice for gaming.

EP19 - Banjo Ranting
Banjo has a VERY bad week, and needs to tell you about it. If you like to hear him go off on tirades about stuff GREAT! This episode is just for you. Otherwise... well we deeply apologize for what you are about to hear. Except if you skip this one. That is okay too.

EP18 - Acting the Part
Banjo must conquer his emotions for this special listener requested episode as he can Raspathir discuss The Actor(tm). Yes folks, this entire episode is dedicated to the NPC that makes Banjo & Friends twitch with enthusiasm. Get ready for a lot a whimpering, and even a couple of revelations.

EP17 - CheapassGames
Tired of paying too much for board games? Do you have too many bits and pieces from games that you hardly ever play? Well have we got a solution for you! Let the Dice Roll is proud to present you with: Cheapass Games! A vendor that specializes in low-cost games that also make use of game components you already have lying about the house. Horray!
Banjo also shares his feelings on anniversary editions that go well above, and beyond their original production quality.

EP16 - Big Box Games
Tired of board games that are too small, too "family friendly" or dare we say it... easy to play? Well throw down a big wad of cash on one of these fine titles! All jokes aside, we are talking about board games that are very much in a category of their own. For fans of the genres they represent, they offer a LOT of gaming enjoyment. Both in duration of play, as well as depth of strategy. Some of them even have RPG elements baked right in! No DM required.

EP15 - Betrayal at the What on the Where?
Finally something the whole family can play! ... well, sort of. Betrayal at House on the Hill is a boardgame for ages 12+ and features a bit of mild horror and a LOT of suspense. During the course of the game, players take turns exploring a mysterious house, and uncovering mysteries. At some point though one of them becomes a traitor! Will it be you?

EP14 - Session Zero
Session Zero is a very important aspect of every roleplaying game. Whether it be for a one-shot, or a multi-year campaign. It is a time where the game host, and players can get to know one another, what they want to play, and even get a bit of a preview for what is to come. While it may not always be necessary, it can certainly clear up a whole bunch of questions.

EP13 - Bad Medicine
Raspathir has gathered together a number of friends to play in a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. The setting is called "Curse of Strahd". In this game, Banjo plays a chaotic neutral Tiefling that also happens to be a -very- knowledgeable cleric. This causes problems because the players only see her as a healer... it makes for some interesting roleplaying.

Intermission - The one betwixt S01, and S02
Not one to leave folks hanging, Banjo has done gone off script and recorded an entire episode BY HIMSELF and uncut!!! Oh the horror, such woe, et. al!!! We are not at all kidding either... Banjo sits down, with a glass of adult beverage, and just talks into the microphone. There is a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff, motivations for the podcast, and a whole lot of him ranting. Will this keep him from ranting endlessly in other episdoes? Possibly.. fingers crossed!
Both boys will be back for Season 2 in a little while (next week hopefully!).
This episode has been marked "explicit" for some foul language, but really it's just a couple of naughty words that would probably make it a T for Teen rating (the usual).

EP12 - The Worst Season FINALE Ever
Following close on the heels of the Worst Episode Ever is the unexpected Season Finale!
Unexpected because we had planned at least another episode but time, and other factors came up. Blah blah blah.
In THIS episode we have a mix of topics, a -very- unscripted grab bag if you will.
We are dark next week, but after that we are going to come back with Season 2!

Episode 11.5 - Appologies!
Hey everyone! We DO have a proper episode 12 finale coming in, but time got lost, dice were obliterated.... yeah... TOMORROW I should have the next installment ready, then after a short intermission we are into SEASON TWO!
EP11 - Worst, Episode, Ever
Has this ever happened to you? The party is moving along nicely, everyone knows their part in the plan, then SUDDENLY, everything is on FIRE. Well, we have the solution for you! Actually.... no. That is a lie. But! We DO talk about how things can go badly, and offer a few small words about how to handle those situations. Additionally: As Banjo says in the cold open, Ratkin are organized by "Aspects" and not "Plagues". Le sigh..

EP10 - The Trouble with Godliness
What started out as a nice conversation about Scion: Hero, a game in which players get to create direct offspring of their favorite gods, turned into a rather anxiety-inducing origin story about a recurring antagonist which Banjo, and his fellow players love to hate. Mind you there is a bit of ... mild language so this episode has been marked explicit accordingly.

EP09 - Of LARPs, and Nerds
Just when you thought it was over, Banjo comes back with another long, presumptive rant. This time it leads to a couple of stories about Live Action Roleplaying (LARPing). Yes, ACTUAL STORIES! It does come at the cost of learning a bit about the nerdiest way to play a game though...

EP08 - The Journey of Sylas (Part 1)
Taking a break from ranting, Banjo lets Raspathir have a turn at the microphone with tales about a D&D game he is currently part of. His character, Syalas the Open-Palm monk, joins up with a party of adventurers that have already had a few encounters of their own. Together they go forth, but find trouble along the path to their next destination. Unable to help himself, Banjo does have a SHORT rant about the lack of dragons in the game, thus birthing the term "introductory dragons". To be continued...?
Bonus 01 - Listener Shoutout & Season 2!
Thanks to everyone that listens, and special thanks to Thalia Q. for the 5-star review on Apple Podcasts!

EP07 - Dice, Love, Gaming
This week Banjo goes on one heck of a rant about his gaming addiction, and tries to warn others against the danger. Thankfully, Raspathir is able to provide a glimmer of hope that newer gamers won't end up in the same trap. There is also a LOT of chat about dice; collecting, laying down rules, and even how to "teach" them what not to do.

Taking a break from the ever-present burden of knowledge, Banjo decides to talk about game books that he owns but has never played. EP05 - Say Yes to Friend Computer
Banjo nearly bursts at the seams as he finally gets a chance to gush over Paranoia (the RPG) which takes up nearly half the episode. In the second half, they start a healthy discussion about how to say "yes" to the players, and explore the benefits and consequences of doing so.
EP04 - Changeling It Up
Banjo and Raspathir finally see some very colorful lights as they finish up their World of Darkness series with Changelings in London. The boys also comment on the values of online, open world roleplaying (often referred to as RPG chats). Finally, they are both left wondering what would have happened if the players were allowed to do what they wanted.
EP03 - Anana-what?
Banjo and Raspathir finally get around to explaining what Ananasi are, including Banjo's first in character encounter with one. Banjo also shares what it was like to be ghouled by a vampire. Finally they wrap up with some tidbits about the other things that creep around in the World of Darkness. Warning: This episode may contain spiders. Lots, and lots, and lots of spiders.
EP02 - How Not to be a Werewolf
Banjo, and Raspathir reminisce about their first time gaming together. The game, Werewolf: The Apocalypse (Revised World of Darkness). Some bad stuff happened, lessons were learned but never applied, and recurring characters would be introduced!
