March 10, 2019 - LIFE IN HEAVEN
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 15.20-23, 35-58 Jobey McGinty  It's hard to picture a place we've never been to, even if we've seen pictures. But we have no photos of heaven, and so it can be even harder to picture! But the bible gives us many clues to let us know much of what we can expect. We won't be see-through, angelic beings with wings floating in a whitewashed cloud city. Heaven will be more real, more physical, more colorful, and more flavorful, and more dynamic than this life. We will eat, drink, play, sing, dance, and enjoy real life...the most real that we will ever experience.  And Christ's resurrection gives us a very real and sure proof and evidence of this future reality.

March 17, 2019 - DON'T GIVE 10%, GIVE 100%
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 16.1-4 Jobey McGinty  Should Christians give 10% of their income to God? 15%? You can almost picture Jesus saying, "you have heard it said, give a tithe of your money to God. But I tell you, give all of it." Our mentality should be to give God 100% of everything we have, from our money, time, hobbies, work, and everything in between.  But how do we get to a place where we can and want to to do this? Our generosity and sacrifice is a Gospel issue; we give in accordance with how much we realize we have been given to.

March 3, 2019 - CROSS-CENTERED MARRIAGE
Wisdom Cries Aloud - Ephesians 5 Eric Price What should a wife model her role in her marriage after?  What should a husband aim to embody in his marriage?  In this sermon, we see that Christ gives us an example of what it looks like to be either a wife lovingly and freely submitted in partnership with her husband, as well as a husband who lovingly and freely lays his very life down every single day for the wife that he has committed himself to.

February 24, 2019 - THE RESURRECTION IS OUR ONLY HOPE
The Fight For Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 15.12-34 Jobey McGinty If Jesus didn't raise from the grave, both body and soul, Christians should be the people who should be most pitied. Without the resurrection, as humans we can only expect more of the same: death, sickness, poverty, loneliness, sin.  But the resurrection is the first sign of something new, something better, and something filled with hope for a future that is currently hopeless.

February 17, 2019 - THE GOSPEL AS FIRST IMPORTANCE
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 15.1-11 Jobey McGinty After challenging the Corinthians on a number of difficult issues, it seems Paul senses a need to pause from the weighty topics and remind them of their foundations in the Gospel.  In the midst of busy lives, challenging circumstances and our own sin and doubts, we need this same reminder!  The Gospel isn't just our starting point in the faith, it is what sustains and guides us throughout our lives, until the day Christ completes the work He began in us.

February 10, 2019 - THE GOD-ORDERED LIFE
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 14.26-40 Jobey McGinty Are we free to design our lives and interactions with others however we see fit?  Or is there a better way?  God is a God of order, and even models how we should relate with one another, show respect to one another, submit to one another, and serve one another.  How does this apply to our lives, in our families, marriages, churches, and friendships?

February 3, 2019 - WHAT IS THE GIFT OF TONGUES?
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 14.6-25 Jobey McGinty What is the gift of tongues, and is it still in action today?  What was the whole purpose of tongues in the first place? These are just a few of the questions we face when it comes to this extraordinary and unusual gift that God gave to the church, and the Corinthians were prone to misuse it.

January 27, 2019 - HOW TO RESPOND IN A CULTURE WITH ABORTION
Jobey McGinty, interviewing Leslie Salazar-Carillo, CEO Pathway Health Clinic In light of the new legislation passed in New York concerning abortion last week, we take time to look at the topic of abortion, specifically, how we who are pro-life respond to a culture that is ever-increasing in its promotion and allowance of shedding the blood of innocent lives. How does the every day Christian - a stay-at-home mom, a 9-5 employee, a high school student - those who may not know much about politics or consider themselves to be "activists," but who are both concerned yet also feel helpless, actually make a difference and be a part of the long term solution to save the lives of voiceless, defenseless babies? How do we also not act in arrogant judgement and engage in productive discussions and relationships with those we differ with? And, maybe most importantly, how do we care for the young women and couples who are facing difficult and life-changing decisions? Pastor Jobey also invites congregation member Leslie Salazar-Carillo, CEO of Pathway Health Clinic in Vista, CA, to share insights and great encouragement to the church as we learn to respond to a growing crisis. January 20, 2019 - THE WISDOM OF PRAYER
Growing the Roots of Wisdom Jobey McGinty We often set goals and have desires to fulfill a particular vision for our life, but without a plan, it is simply wishful thinking. We not only need a strategy, but a strategy that actually provides us with the power to live out the strategy in a way that helps us attain the goals we have. God has given us three primary means to be roots that help connect us into the living water of the Gospel: the Word of God, Prayer, and Gospel Community.

December 23, 2018 - ADVENT: WHAT HEAVEN WILL BE LIKE
Advent: Wisdom Cries Aloud Jobey McGinty   What will our eternal future be like? What will our bodies and the place we live be like? Chances are, it will be different than what you thought it would be growing up. It will be far greater than you can imagine!

December 16, 2018 - GOD'S WISDOM IN REDEEMING HIS ENEMIES
Advent: Wisdom Cries Aloud Jobey McGinty We need a Redeemer. We have sinned against the God of the Universe, and are currently "out on bail," living freely in this life. But one day, we will stand before the Judge to state our case for why we should be forgiven for committing cosmic treason. On our own, we have no case, we have no hope. We need a Redeemer to come in and stand in our place.

December 9, 2018 - GOD'S WISDOM WITHIN THE FALL OF MAN
Advent: Wisdom Cries Aloud Jobey McGinty How does the Fall of Man display God's Wisdom? It seems that when something we create becomes broken, it proves a lack of wisdom on our part. But this is not so with God. He weaves this incredible story and reveals His wisdom in it even through its darkest parts.

December, 2 - ADVENT: GOD'S WISDOM IN CREATING ALL THINGS
Advent: Wisdom Cries Aloud - God's Wisdom in Creating All Things Jobey McGinty Christ is the Wisdom of God, and when He came to the earth 2,000 years ago, we got to see and behold God's Wisdom in the flesh. But the leading up to His birth, and the result of His life, is what makes His appearance, His Advent, so awe-inspiring and the ultimate display of His Wisdom.

November 25, 2018 - THE SPIRIT-LED LIFE
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 14.1-4 Jobey McGinty Regardless of what we believe about the spiritual gifts (particularly prophecy and prophets), how do we discern what to do and how to make decisions when we believe God is leading us in a particular direction? How do we make godly decisions and live a life that is fueled by the Holy Spirit?

November 18, 2018 - WHAT ARE PROPHECIES AND PROPHETS?
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 14.1-4 Jobey McGinty What was the role of New Testament prophets and prophecy, and are the New Testament prophets and prophecy that Paul describes in his letters still around today? In this sermon, we look at these and other questions concerning this hotly debated gift of the Holy Spirit.

November 11, 2018 - THE FEAR OF MAN
Wisdom Cries Aloud - Proverbs 29:25 Eric Price We live in a noisy world, with many different voices and enticements coming from every angle. At the head of the street Wisdom is crying out for us to run to her; to close our ears and turn our hearts away from the many distractions that would keep us trapped in self-centered pursuits. But will we return the call, seeking after Wisdom as silver or gold?

November 4, 2018 - HOW TO REALLY LOVE OTHERS
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 13.1-13 Jobey McGinty The Corinthian church was looking at their personal giftings and place in society as a way of finding their identity, prominence, and value. But Paul says there is a much better way to find those things, and a much better way to use our gifts, and that is the way of love. We could be the most talented and gifted people in our community, but if we are not doing things out of love, it is nothing. But what does real love look like, and how to do grow in our love for others?

The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 13.1-3 Jobey McGinty The Corinthian church was looking at their personal giftings and place in society as a way of finding their identity, prominence, and value. But Paul says there is a much better way to find those things, and a much better way to use our gifts, and that is the way of love. October 21, 2018 - WE NEED EACH OTHER
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 12.14-31 Jobey McGinty Each person has been uniquely gifted by God to play an important role in the body of Christ. Though we may think we are less important or unimportant, just because we believe or feel that does not make it true. We each have an important role to play, whether we like our role or even see our role or not.

October 14, 2018 - A VARIETY OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 12.1-13 Jobey McGinty What are spiritual gifts, and why are they given? Does everyone have them, and how do we discover which we have? How do we learn to walk out this life in a "naturally supernatural" way, using our spiritual gifts in every day life?

October 7, 2018 - ABUSING COMMUNION
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 11.17-34 Jobey McGinty Every week our church takes what we call "communion" or "the Lord's Supper." But what exactly is it, and why do we do it? What are the proper and improper ways we go about celebrating the Lord's Supper, and what can we do to ensure we partake of it properly?

September 30, 2018 - THE IMPORTANCE OF HEAD COVERINGS
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 11.2-16 Jobey McGinty Should women wear head coverings today? What was the purpose that they had in the 1st Century, and are there any modern equivalents? Many cultural practices act as sign posts or even guardians to more important principles. The practices themselves are not sacred and can change, but we must be thoughtful, wise, and careful about how, when, and if we choose to push back on cultural constructs. Indeed, it is wise and even good to do so at times (slavery, women's right to vote, etc.), but other times it takes more care and consideration for what the collateral affect might be.

September 23, 2018 - IDOLATRY AND DOUBLE DIPPING
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 10.14-22 Jobey McGinty The demonic goal of idolatry is never to get you to choose between two gods, it's to entice you to worship multiple gods. We are constantly needing to identify and fight the idolatries in our heart, and they are myriad. In this sermon, we go Idol Hunting, aiming to locate and attack the idols that sneak into us, rob us of joy, deteriorate relationships, and steal worship from God.

September 16, 2018 - BEING LIGHT AND HEAT
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 9.19-27 Jobey McGinty As we enter into the world of those around us, we should aim to bring both light and heat. Light with no heat will simply bring condemnation, but heat with no light will bring a soft sentimentalism that gives no power (or reason) to change. In other words, we are to speak the truth, but speak it in love. One without the other is not enough.

September 2, 2018 - RUNNING THE RACE
The Fight For Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Jobey McGinty Christians have been called to immerse themselves in the world that God has placed them. But we don't do this haphazardly or flippantly. One wrong step can land us in a world of our own sin, or in an isolated Christian bubble. How do we wisely enter this race, but then have the strength and wisdom to endure it?

August 26, 2018 - RELATING TO THE WORLD AROUND US
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 9.19-23 Jobey McGinty Paul tells us to "become all things to all men," and this command comes from his observation of the Christmas Story. Jesus came and adjusted Himself to the world He was sent to, without falling into the sins of this world. How do we also then come alongside and enter into the world around us? What does it mean to become all things to all men?

August 19, 2018 - CARING FOR SHEPHERDS
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 9.1-18 Jobey McGinty Paul tells the Corinthians that they should take care of the shepherds that oversee them. Yet he also does not allow them to take care of him. Why this contradiction? Why would he deny from them what he actually encourages? At the heart of both sides is Paul's desire for the clarity, integrity, and purity of Gospel preaching in churches. He desperately wants an unbiased, deep, healthy Gospel to be preached.

The Fight for Wisdom - Romans 12:1,2 Jobey McGinty What is the conscience, and what is its purpose? Is it always correct? Should we obey our conscience, even if it's wrong? How do we adjust our conscience if it is wrong? And how do we live alongside others that have a different conscience than us?

July 8, 2018 - THE BALANCE OF GOD AND FAMILY
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 7.28-35 Jobey McGinty How do we fit God into our busy lives? The first thing we can do is to word the question differently. We should ask, how do we fit our lives - marriage, singleness, hobbies, kids, work - into God's will and desire for our lives? It's not easy, but adjusting how we view the balance of faith, work, family, and play is critical for us to find the true joy and life that God desires for us.

July 1, 2018 - LIVE AS YOU ARE CALLED
The Fight for Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 7.10-28 Jobey McGinty Are you single and wish you were married? Are you married and wish you were single? Do you hate your job? Do you just wish that your life was panning out differently? You're not alone, and there's much to be said on how our perspective and shift, even if our circumstance does not. You have been called to live a particular life, and learning how to approach it is of utmost importance to live a truly satisfying, fulfilling life.

June 24 - THE GOD WHO IS THERE
Psalm 139 Guest Pastor Forrest Weiland Sometimes we try to run from God. Have you ever wanted (or actually tried) to run from God? What do you think is meant by the statement, “there is only one way to escape God, and that is to run to Him”? Knowing that there is nowhere we can run to that can truly get us away from God will either be comforting for us, or fear-inducing. But when we know the love of God, this will bring us great comfort.

June 10 - THE PROBLEM OF SEXUAL SIN
The Fight for Wisdom: 1 Corinthians 6.12-20 Jobey McGinty We very easily compartmentalize our physical life from our spiritual life. We convince ourselves that physical actions have no real affect on our spirituality. When it comes to sex and sexuality, we have a very permissive attitude, acting as if what we do with our bodies and our minds has no real consequence, that it's okay "as long as it's not hurting anyone" or "if it makes me happy." But this is not the case, and understanding the big picture of the beauty and glory of sex, marriage, and sexual union is the only thing that will help us understand the real problem of sexual sin.

May 27, 2018 - GOSPEL AMNESIA
The Fight for Wisdom: 1 Corinthians 6.9-11 Jobey McGinty It is a tragedy when a Christian forgets his true identity. When we respond to life simply based on what is in front of us - the challenges, fears, anxieties, and conflicts - we don't act or operate as we should. We end up judging others and attacking others. We are constantly battling a forgetfulness of the Gospel, that we were once lost in darkness, but now destined for life. If we can remember this, we will treat others, and react to life's circumstances, radically different.

May 20, 2018 - CONFLICT RESOLUTION
The Fight for Wisdom: 1 Corinthians 6.1-8 Jobey McGinty We are so quick to judge in the inner courts of our hearts. That judgment quickly divides us and causes division in our marriages, families, and churches. When simple desires we have turn into demands and "must haves," our friendships quickly turn to fighting and disagreement. How are we to work out our disagreements before things get out of hand? How can we recognize our own fault as we come to the resolution table?

May 13, 2018 - THE GRACE OF CHURCH DISCIPLINE
The Fight for Wisdom: 1 Corinthians 5.1-13 Jobey McGinty One of the ways God shows His love to us is through disciplining us away from sin and towards godliness. And one of the ways He does that is through His people. But most of us insist upon our privacy and shut others out of being able to speak into our lives. When we do this, we put ourselves, and others, in danger. Paul has tough words for the church as they have skirted their responsibility of loving each other through tough but tender confrontation. How do we as a church not make this same mistake? How do we engage in church discipline in a way that brings honor to God and hope and health to the church, including the one living in unrepentant sin?

May 6, 2018 - FATHERS VS. GUIDES
1 Corinthians 4.14-21 Jobey McGinty In an age of information, we have countless sources to guide us in every aspect of life. We also have no shortage of people (including ourselves) that will criticize us, point out wrongs, and focus simply on results. What we need is not more guides and critics, but fathers. We need people who will come alongside others with care, gentleness, patience, and understanding. We don't need punishment from judges, but discipline from fathers.

April 22, 2018 - STEWARDS OF OUR LIVES

April 8, 2018 - TRUSTING GOD FOR CHANGE
1 Corinthians 3.5-9 Jobey McGinty We tend to elevate mentors, methods and things in a way that we think they have some special power to bring about change. But the Word tells us that God alone has the power to change us. We (and any tools we use) are just servants and instruments. The receptacle is not important, but the water it contains. This brings encouragement for us to remind us that we can trust God and His faithfulness to bring about the kind of change that only He can bring.

April 15, 2018 - BUILD YOUR LIFE THE RIGHT WAY
1 Corinthians 3:9-23 Jobey McGinty It is possible to be a Christian, but build your life poorly. When shoddy materials are used to build physical buildings, people's lives are in danger. When we build our lives with shoddy materials, people's spiritual lives are in danger. Christ is to be our foundation, but Christians often build on "additions" to the foundation to accommodate their preferences, sin, and do things their way. We need the wisdom of the Building Inspector to examine our work, help us tear down poorly built areas, and build with strong material on the foundation of Christ.
