Lyndon Purcell & Martin Refalo: Pros & Cons of Imposter Syndrome (Part 2) | Life Beyond Fitness Ep.60

In today’s episode, I continue my discussion with Lyndon and Martin from JPS Education based out of Melbourne, Australia. JPS is one of the world’s top education companies within the fitness industry, and Lyndon and Martin act as the Manager of Education Services and Education Coordinator — which is no small feat with the caliber of information these guys produce.

We have a lengthy, nuanced, discussion over the pros and cons of imposter syndrome. We touch on a few other notable topics, but the main theme is around the nuances within this rather hazy topic.

This is Part 2 of 2. If you would like to go back and listen to Part 1, you can do so by clicking here.

We end of the podcast with my favorite question: If you were to write a letter to yourself as a first-year competitor, what would you tell yourself?

For those of you who are competitors, please listen in as these are both women who know how to get the job done. If you’re a coach, there are many insights to be gained from this episode and this sets us up very well for next week’s podcast where we sit down with Alex Bush and Paul Revelia

Part 1: Why You Have To Challenge Yourself | Life Beyond Fitness Ep.19

Today we start our journey towards a 3-part series.

In this series, I bring to you some audio from videos I recorded a few months back. I was home alone and was finished up with work and had some time to sit down, think, and evaluate my recent challenges. This is the outcome of giving myself some quiet, reflective time.

For context, in 2018 I faced some personal and professional challenges which forced me to take a step back and evaluate what was actually happening to my life. My normal laid back demeanor had become short and agitated. My drive for progression had become one of complacency and self-loathing. To say the least, I was in a dark place and I didn’t like where it was headed.

In 2019, I made a promise to myself to separate from what was causing these setbacks and challenges and spend more time simplifying my life — both personally and professionally. This process included spending time by myself, remaining quiet, and allowing my mind to think through what was happening. This time of immense introspection—which remains ongoing—has brought a lot of clarity to a life otherwise consumed by confusion and uncertainty.

I am thankful I took this afternoon to record these videos. I remain thankful every time I spend time to myself and simply think. This is my time to omit input, and allow free flow of the output.
