S3 E13 - A Black Men's Mental Health - ft King Kamayera

To close out this season and plan for the next, I thought it would be fantastic to do an episode that has been on my list and mind for a long time. Specifically speaking about the Black community more women, queers, and nonbinary folks are in therapy, holistically healing, and doing things to better their mental health, but Black men, particularly Black cishet men, aren't. I've done a podcast with a Queer Black man in season 2, but I feel the more conversations with Black men about mental health the better. So in this podcast episode, I had the pleasure of speaking to a young, cishet Black man about his journey with mental health.  Connect with King Kamayera: https://www.instagram.com/king.kamayera/ Connect with me: https://linktr.ee/amarachiesowe

As I continue to intentionally heal I often go back to the times I didn't and realize that time generally didn't heal my wound. I was still affected by a lot of what traumatized me. But now, I'm allowing myself to use my time wisely to heal the wounds that didn't go away nature. In this episode we dig into the saying, "Time Heals All Wounds". S3 E6 - Revisiting The Effects of Childhood Trauma

This is a Replay of Season 1 Episode 3 titled, "Why Are You Like This? Inside Childhood Trauma".

It's been a heavy year, and we'll need some healing to get through this year and then soon! I was drawn to speak about trauma, specifically, childhood trauma because we forget that a lot of how we, even those making the rule of us as a country, and those we are in charge of, see the world all handle our lives stem from how we grew up. In its episode, I educate you on what childhood trauma is, speak about my journey, and how what steps I took to deal with my Adverse Childhood Experience.  I believe you can too. Check out The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) for more info on.

S3 E3 - What Cycle Are You Breaking?

S3 E3 - What Cycle Are You Breaking?

In this episode I wanted to dig deeper into why I had hated the Holiday Season. For some the Holiday Season is filled with joy and celebration but for me, year after year, I began to dread this time of year. I knew for one I hated having to pretend I was happy all the time with all the happy Holiday music, but the analytical side of me knew that issue was deeper than hearing the Mariah Carey "All I Want For Christmas" song. So, we go a little deeper and speak about a certain family dynamic system that might just be what people like me want to end when we say, "End The Cycle"!

S3 E1 - Calling People Out With Intention - ft Karen Pancho

S3 E1 - Calling People Out With Intention - ft Karen Pancho

As we grow and healing, we begin to Unlearn a lot of things. Within Unlearning we also begin to learn how to speak up for ourselves or speak up for others, and a better way to communicate altogether. When we do this at times we can get out of control, but what about the times we do not get out of control but still end up in conflict with someone else? This episode touches on Calling People Out from a place of Intention. My co-host and I, in our journeys of asserting ourselves, we retell stories of when we called someone out without intention, when we called someone out with intention, and what we both learned from these experiences. S2 E11 - What's In Our Mother's Gardens? - ft Chanel

S2 E11 - What's In Our Mother's Gardens? - ft Chanel

This episode was influenced by the Netflix documentary In Our Mother's Garden. In Our Mother's Garden was created by Filmmaker Shantrelle P. Lewis who examines the complex and often humorous relationship between Black mothers and daughters. The documentary features an eclectic group of women who share stories of and relationship with their mothers to redefine holistic living rooted in radical self-care and healing.

I was blessed to be in conversation with Chanel who was open to share her own relationship with her mother, the influence her mother's way of life had on her and hoe she defines a life for herself that is holistic and tied into radical self-care and healing.

S2 E4 - Therapy Is Important For Children

S2 E4 - Therapy Is Important For Children

Therapy Is Important For Children.

“When we talk about children’s mental health and learning to help them cope with trauma or mental illness, we become a bit misguided. Naturally, we need to address issues like stigma, lack of resources, and the challenges of working with a child’s brain to repair any damage before it becomes a long-term problem.

But we also need to see mental health work as an opportunity. Therapy should not only be about reacting to a breakdown and restoring someone to normal. Rather, we should aim to transform the people around us and empower them to grow beyond who they were when they started to have the issues. It’s even easier to accomplish this when we take the time to talk about children’s mental health.” - Michael Noker

S1 E2 - Mindful Questions - ft Gaiden (my nephew)

S1 E2 - Mindful Questions - ft Gaiden (my nephew)

This episode I recorded on Sunday 9/20/20. I sit down with my nephew to demonstrate an act of mindfulness. Mindfulness shouldn't seem overwhelming, it would be a moment to connect with ourselves and those around it. In this episode, you'll enjoy an 11-year-old mindfully sharing himself  by answering a few mindful questions that I'm sure we all want to know about when it comes to "What is life like for a child during the world we are living in today?" Let's connect with my nephew, Gaiden, through mindful questions! Always remember to be curious and ask more mindful and personal questions enough to connect. The more we are connected, the more we support our mental health.
