Lily is tackling a big topic first thing in 2023. Sex workers face a ton of stigma and bias in both the world at large and in healthcare. Let's explore this topic and how to address our implicit bias so this population of patient receives the best care possible.

Arkansas was one of the first states to begin enacting bills and acts to block medical treatment for trans patients under the age of 18 for both gender confirming medical treatment, as well as, reassignment surgeries. Many medical professionals both locally and nationally have argued that gender reassignment surgery is NOT happening to patients under the age of 18 and that denying gender affirming medical treatment can increase an already at risk community of higher suicide rates and major depressive episodes, not excluding other medical conditions such as body dysmorphia. So what do you do when the laws in your state are basically invalidating your experience? Local based MDTs can be a lifeline for victims within the communities they reside. Let’s explore some of the research and information surrounding MDTs and how that looks in the state of Arkansas.

Wake Up to Sexual Health has their first guests in the form of victim advocates from Women and Children First located in Little Rock, AR. Join Ashley and Lily, along with Ann and Lakese to learn about victim advocacy. Advocacy can be a form of support for various types of victims and tend to seek services during the most traumatic times of their lives. Ann and Lakese break down how advocacy works, who can receive advocacy, and other trials and tribulations which come with services in our area.
