EP 78: Battling Burnout And Mental Health Tips With The Head Biddy Rachel
Hello Biddies and welcome to the Season 3 finale of the podcast and we are switching things up a bit by publishing one of my Patreon solo bonus episodes publicly as my gift to you for the holiday season! I'm tackling a very important topic that I feel affects a lot of people, especially those in the creative field, burnout. I published this episode on the Patreon back in September when I was coming off a very serious battle with burnout and medical fatigue, and I wanted to share some of the things that helped get me through it. I'm also offering an extended intro with some more context into my current mental health state in hopes that those also going through something know that they're not alone and that we're in this together. About Our Guest:
I’ve been doing make-up professionally for over 16 years. I started in retail at Sephora in NYC in 2005, became a manager at MAC for 6 years, and fell in love with teaching when I was a trainer at MAKE UP FOR EVER. While working for different makeup companies, I took on as many freelance gigs as possible.
In 2016, now living in LA -- I went full time freelance, primarily working in production and live events, with Halloween being my busiest season! I love designing looks and building teams to bring visions to life.
As much as I love being on set, teaching has my heart and in 2020, I launched an online make-up school! We started with courses for makeup enthusiasts over 30 who want to master their own make-up and have recently began adding Pro courses for budding artists, starting with Halloween! While I do still take on gigs, my school and my students are my priority.

About Our Guest:
Our journey was motivated for our students and by our students of Multimedia Makeup Academy, also founded by Devawn Testagrossa. While at their jobs on film sets, television sets or in other professional settings, our students were alarmed at the sanitation practices that their fellow makeup artists exhibited. Our students were surprised to find that not all professional makeup artists had the training necessary to protect the health and wellness of their clients. It was our students who inspired and joined us in launching a conversation about the lack of sanitation practices and standards within the makeup industry. Together, we knew we needed to protect our clients and elevate the makeup industry’s sanitation standards. In the beginning, Sanitation Conversation™ was a movement that we hoped would bring awareness to the lack of sanitation standards. We provided artists with the information that they needed to understand and employ proper sanitation skills, but we fell short of giving a sustainable solution to the problem. It was our passion for change that compelled us to create a product paired with education in efforts to make a difference. Thus, the birth of Sanitation Standards.

Muslimah, also known as Moose, is a professional MUA, content creator, and educator. Moose began her career as a makeup artist in 2016, building her clientele in her dorm while receiving her communications degree at Howard University. In 2017 she created her @mooselovesu profile to get exposure for her freelance artistry and have a place for her to practice her unique style of creative/SFX makeup. About our guest:
I've always loved makeup. I first got a taste for professional work when I did my little cousin's makeup for her Miss Teen New York pageant run. After deciding to follow my passion, I got certified through a New Jersey based bridal team in 2015.
Working, learning, and honing my craft has been amazing. My artistry has allowed me to work for runway shows, work on editorial shoots, boudoir shoots, and to be apart of so many beautiful brides' special days. I started doing makeup to share my talent, knowledge and experience with the world through artistry and my blog, but it has become so much more.
In 2020, I decided to re-brand, and thus Crown Makeovers was born. I'm excited to continue my journey in Atlanta, Georgia.
