Life can shift on a dime. In this episode, I delve into the unique experience of losing a mother at the of eleven and then becoming an adopted child.  I'll share my story- the confusing emotions, the sudden absence of my mother, and then the challenges of navigating a world without my biological mom and adapting to a world without her.

This isn't just about grief; it's about growth. I explore the internal struggles that came with such a profound loss and how I began to find my way forward, wrestling with questions of identity and belonging.

S7 Episode 5 | Switching your mindset

Things I do to keep my mental health strong: I realize that my personality is intense, and I tend to have more negative thoughts than positive ones. I often criticize myself over unimportant matters and care too much about what others think, basing my self-worth on external validation!

What I have learned, and what I continue to learn, is that nobody really cares. Validating yourself is the first step in the right direction.

Understanding that negative thoughts will always be present, but choosing how you react to them is the key to overcoming them. I like to imagine negative thoughts as passing clouds, observing them, reflecting on why I feel that way, and then letting them float away.

In addition, engaging in activities that make you feel better, promote health, and provide grounding can greatly contribute to mental stability.

My personal tools include waking up, making my bed, and going to the gym to move my body. This routine grounds me and reminds me that I am in control of my own life. I choose to wake up and move my body. I also avoid using phrases like 'I have to' because they make me feel like I have no choice in the matter.

Anyways, I hope you find peace in this chaotic world and discover things that bring you happiness.

This week's podcast will focus on leveling your mind and exploring ways to thrive better.

S7 Episode 3 | Imposter Syndrome

S7 Episode 3 | Imposter Syndrome

Imposter syndrome is a common experience characterized by feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt, despite external evidence of success. It can manifest in various aspects of life, particularly in professional and academic settings. While it's not a recognized mental disorder, it can significantly impact one's confidence, motivation, and overall well-being.

Overcoming imposter syndrome requires a multi-faceted approach that involves recognizing the issue, challenging negative thoughts, and building self-efficacy. Here are some key strategies to combat imposter syndrome:

  1. Acknowledge and Normalize Imposter Feelings: The first step is to acknowledge that imposter syndrome is a common experience, even among highly successful individuals. Recognizing that you're not alone in these feelings can help reduce the stigma and shame associated with them.

  2. Challenge Negative Thoughts: Imposter syndrome often stems from distorted thinking patterns. Challenge these negative thoughts by examining the evidence for and against them. Often, you'll find that your accomplishments far outweigh your perceived shortcomings.

  3. Focus on Your Strengths and Achievements: Instead of dwelling on perceived weaknesses, shift your focus to your strengths and accomplishments. Make a list of your successes, no matter how small they may seem. Regularly remind yourself of your capabilities.

  4. Seek Support and Mentorship: Surround yourself with supportive individuals who can provide encouragement and guidance. Seek mentorship from people you admire, and learn from their experiences and insights.

  5. Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself and recognize that everyone makes mistakes and experiences setbacks. Instead of harsh self-criticism, practice self-compassion and understanding.

  6. Celebrate Your Successes: Take the time to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, both big and small. Allow yourself to feel proud of your accomplishments and recognize your hard work.

  7. Focus on Continuous Learning: Embrace a growth mindset and view challenges as opportunities for learning and development. Seek out new knowledge and skills, and view setbacks as stepping stones to improvement.

Remember, overcoming imposter syndrome is an ongoing process, not a one-time event. It requires consistent effort and self-awareness. By implementing these strategies, you can gradually build self-confidence, silence your inner critic, and recognize your true worth.

S6 Episode 3 | Minyoung Lee

Hi, I’m Minyoung

It's sounds much like mignon from filet mignon but with less of the French accent. My parents thoughtfully picked out my name to carry the purpose of uplifting ("young" = to uplift) others ("min" = a nation) and for that reason I hope that our interaction can be one in which you feel happy, welcome, and safe to express yourself as you are.

My background in Acupuncture & Integrative health inspire my love & curiosity of the human experience. Over the last eight years photography & videography have become my go-to tools to create purposeful content that uplifts, educates and empowers people to take the front seat of not only their healing but a life that only they are capable of creating.

S3 Episode 10 | Self Love and Development

S3 Episode 10 | Self Love and Development

WHIP OUT THAT JOURNAL GIRL!

1. Create a Mantra: A mantra is usually one sentence that you memorize and recite to yourself our out loud when your inner bitch starts to run her mouth.  "I am strong, my body is spectacular, I love every part of me." Choose something that resonates with you and even better if it's the exact opposite of what that bitch is saying! Pick a time of day to recite  (I like getting out of the shower when I'm buck naked) and flex that new habit muscle!

2. My Best Friend: Talk to your body like you would your best friend (assuming you're nice to your bestie lol). You wouldn't tell your bestie she's a pudgy, unmotivated loser, would you?!So how come those types of conversations come up privately, within you?? Your mantra will come in handy here.  Keep in mind this is a practice and it will take a bit of work to strengthen your self love muscles. Be patient and be KIND.  The next time you hear your inner bitch being well, bitchy, combat the dialogue with a conversation that you would have with your best friend and feel the negativity dissolve.

3. Name Your Bitch: This one is so fun. I know it sounds a little nuts when I say "having a conversation with yourself," but I can assure you that your body and your mind work in VERY different ways. Your brain is the problem solver, the conscious, the logic and the reasoning. Your body is a part of the subconscious that is responsible for innate activities like breathing, heart rate and emotions. Your inner bitch is your conscious critic, and she's full of shit. What she says isn't real. Try to separate this negative, internal chatter from what actually IS, your body. To do this, pick a name you dislike for your inner bitch. Every time she pipes up (in the mirror, before bed etc.), say her name and tell her to shut the fuck up. I also find it useful to make fun of her, like "you know nothing and you're an idiot because my body is absolute perfection." Over time, she'll quiet and bonus points when she becomes kind and complimentary!

4. BODY TEMPLE "What would I do if I were to treat my body like a temple? Think of all the gorgeous, vast and intricate temples around the world (Taj Mahal, Parthenon etc,) people take pretty darn good care of those right? So take 20 minutes and make a HUGE list of all the ways you could take PERFECT care of your beautiful bod. This could be anything from sleeping 10 hours a night to a yoga retreat in Panama. Get really creative and consider the things that make you feel amazing!

5. BODY STRONG. Take another 20 minutes and write down all the amazing things your strong, beautiful body allows you to do.  Even if you're not well or have an injury, you'd be amazed at how your body supports you throughout the hours.  Think morning, noon and through the night and all of your social activities, work, play and down time.

6. The Love List Take 20 minutes to make a list of all the things you love about yourself. What do people compliment you on? What do you think when you say "I really have that going for me." Start at the VERY tippy top of your head and work your way down to your toes. You can say things like: "I love that I have all 20 fingers and toes" or "I love the color of my eyes" or "I love the way ankles are shaped." Get SUPER specific!

7. Self Care List Take 10 minutes and write down a few habits you could create to take extraordinary care of yourself.  Remember the Body Temple journal exercise here and work some of these in. For each habit you write down, make a note of when you can do them and how often.  I will not take "I don't have time" as an excuse.  When self care comes first, the rest of life will fall beautifully into place and you can exhibit your best work.
