Awkward Coffee - with Artist Zack Smithey
Zack Smithey is an interdisciplinary artist who continues to evolve, explore new concepts, designs and creative processes. Smithey has been working as a professional artist for the last 20 years and taught high school art for 7 years. In addition to showing in galleries, he paints murals, works with designers, agencies, and clients to source art from his inventory or create custom commissions. He has hundreds of pieces in his current inventory and over 3,000 original pieces in public, private and corporate collections.
In addition to art, Zack designed, consulted and oversaw the construction for the first 2 shipping container homes in the St. Louis area (St. Charles, 2016) and Old North neighborhood, STL, 2019.
Smithey has had over 100 solo and group shows (NYC, NJ, STL, Palm Beach, Palm Springs, Laguna Beach, La Jolla), has done art/film work for Lincoln Center in NYC (A Short Film for the End of Time - Part 1, Part 2), created a series of art videos for world renowned pianist Inon Barnatan (Darknesse Visible - La Valse, Ondine, Fantasy of Peter Grimes, Darknesse Visible, Le Gibet ), commissioned by Boeing to create 2 steel sculptures for their STL headquarters, commissioned performance piece for the La Jolla Music Society - Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, is the creator of the Easter Art Hunt in STL, was commissioned to do Album art for Smother Party in Brooklyn, and has been published in the New Yorker, Sophisticated Living, ShoutOut LA, CURBED, Newsweek, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis At Home Magazine, All The Art, INSIDER, St. Louis Magazine, StreetScapes Magazine, St. Louis Homes & Lifestyles, Uptown Magazine, Community News, Lindenwood Connection and St. Charles Magazine. Getting Cozy In Our New Studio - with Lydia Crespo
Lydia Crespo creates everything from apparel to bedding to bridal by hand in the Argaman&Defiance studio located in St. Charles, MO. We use a variety of surface designed techniques such as dying, printmaking, and fabric painting to create the Argaman&Defiance collection.
Lydia Crespo attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) graduating in 2010. She received the James Nelson Raymond Fellowship from SAIC upon graduation. Crespo used the funds from the fellowship to start her business, Argaman&Defiance.
In 2018, the Argaman&Defiance studio moved to the Foundry Art Centre located in St. Charles, MO. Argaman&Defiance collection is available in over 150 boutiques throughout the US. A&D has designed for Urban Outfitters, West Elm, Target, and Uncommon Goods.
In 2019 Crespo opened brick + mortar, Cozy Shop, a place to find the best handmade products produced in the Midwest. Visit the Cozy Shop just a few blocks south of her studio at 338 S. Main Street in St. Charles, MO.

Mike Elam
Mike Elam grew up in Northwest Arkansas, the son of a Baptist minister and elementary school teacher. He is a graduate of Lindenwood University and served as Hospital Corpsman in the Naval Reserve.
Since moving to St. Charles County in 1991, Mike has become an active member of the community, serving in many leadership roles and community boards. He is the Past President of the St. Charles Noonday Rotary Club, an Assistant Governor of five Rotary clubs in St. Charles County, and the Rotary District 6060 Public Image Chair.
Mike has worked in the communications industry since 1983, for radio and television companies, as an on-air personality, creative services director, and Sales Manager. Currently, he is the Vice President of Community Affairs and Market Development for i3 Broadband, a Fiber to the Home (FTTH) company based in Peoria, Illinois.
Mike has twice been named as the Best Male Voice in St. Louis by the St. Louis Marconi Radio Awards and has a thriving voiceover business. He is the emcee for more than 20 events each year for a variety of organizations and charities throughout St. Charles County, all of which has earned him the nickname “The Voice of St. Charles.”
In April 2013, Mike was appointed by the County Executive to serve District 3 on the St. Charles County Council. He was then elected to the County Council in 2014 and has served two terms as the Council Chair.
A resident of Dardenne Prairie, Mike has been married to his wife Jennifer since 1991, and they have three adult children—Jon, Josh and Megan and daughter-in-law Natalie.
