Lola Pops Off about KDramasSep 20, 2022
(S4) EP#153: Throwing it Back w/Lola: The Great Gye Choon Bin
Today's episode I'm throwing it back to a drama special from 2010, The Great Gye Choon Bin! I'm not sure if anyone's ever seen this hour-long drama special from KBS, but I think it's a a gem of a drama directed by Goblin's Lee Eung Bok and written by our infamous Yoon Nan Joong. It's a gem of a story and I had a lovely time retelling the drama special in this Throwing it Back episode.
As we know, in this season of the podcast, we're jumping around the past 20+ years of Kdramaland to find and rediscover what it is about these small screen masterpieces that make us love and appreciate them so much. It's also a journey for me to return to my beginnings of watching Kdrama and remember what things I've learned from these dramas and what more I hope to learn as I continue watching them!
To hear about this special little drama, a discussion about Yoon Nan Joong, and the gift that are drama specials listen now!
(S4) EP#152: Throwing it Back w/Lola: Summer Scent
After a short break from my Throwing it Back episodes, we return with another classic, 2003's Summer Scent. It's one of the four "Endless Love" dramas, albeit the least popular one, but for me it was the first that I watched from this Hallyu Wave-inciting drama series. So, it only seemed right to return to it for this season!
So, join me as I try to figure out if there is merit in watching this 2003 melo about a heart transplant patient falling in love with her donor's first love.
(S4) EP#151: Giveaway Special Episode!
(S4) EP#150: Lola’s Ramblings & Musings: Wedding Impossible, Nothing Uncovered, The Escape of the Seven, Lovely Runner & more!
(S4) EP#149: Throwing it Back w/Lola: Splash Splash Love
After last week's episode, (almost 3-hour long rave about City Hunter) I decided it would be best to give you and I a short breather episode. So, today we're throwing it back to 2015's Splash Splash Love!
So, join me for a splash into the past with this time-traveling short comedic good time called Splash Splash Love.
(S4) EP#148: Throwing it Back w/Lola: City Hunter
But with today's episode, I officially am discussing one of those pivotal Kdramas for me in my Kdrama journey. It's a drama that I unfortunately spend over two hours talking about in this episode because of this very fact. It's also a podcast episode about a drama that gives almost episode-by-episode spoilers...so proceed with caution! I do include time stamps if you want to listen to the production notes about the drama and/or just skip to the end where I give my favorite and least favorite things about this drama and any other general thoughts on it! But the bulk of this episode is a play-by-play of why I love this drama and it's a good episode for a drinking game! Drink every time I describe something as "so good!"
So, join me as I revisit one of my favorite Kdramas, City Hunter.

This episode is what’s been going on with me in Kdramaland and how the latest Kdramas have been treating me. (S4) EP#145: Throwing it Back w/Lola: Shining Inheritance/Brilliant Legacy
Today's episode is our 3rd installment of throwing it back in this season and I am glad to present to you 2009's Shining Inheritance! It was a longer commitment to throw it back to this 28-episode drama, but it's a family drama classic with all the theatrics and heart in the world! It was a hit during its time, so I wanted to revisit it to see if I think it deserved all that fame and glory! So, listen in now to find out if this one is one I believe still has some merit and was worth my time with this rewatch!

(S3) EP#141: The 3rd Annual Lola Pops Off about Kdramas Awards (video version)
Not to mention, this episode is like another love song to the year of Kdramas and my time with you—so thank you all, yet again, for an amazing year with all the Kdramas we watched and popped off about together. I hope your year in Kdramas was a wonderful one and that you’re already looking forward to a new year in Kdramaland.
As always, please join me in this episode to learn about some of the highlights and disappointments of the year in Kdramas for me and make sure to watch along as you listen as this episode has a video companion over on Spotify. And the print version of “My Poppin’ Kdrama Journal,” will be released soon, so keep your eyes peeled for the official drop in the new year!
The first episode of Season 4 will be released the week of January 15, so see you all then!!
(S3) EP#140: Lola’s Ramblings & Musings: I Pop Off about Kdramas, How about You?
Christmas came early again this year for me with the return of one of my favorite episodes I’ve ever done! This episode is truly a gift to me. So, thank you, thank you, thank you to Tiffany, Lee Song Wook, Beth, Sharon, Milica, Ariane, Squash & Yovita for allowing me to learn more about you and your time in Kdramaland! I can't wait to continue getting to know you all and look forward to getting to know more of you listening! Please check out this episode and show lots of love to our featured guests! Also, I had so much fun with this one and I hope you do too!!
Small edit:: For question, “Do you have a Kdrama ritual? How do you best enjoy watching your Kdramas?”
Yovita’s answer is: “Watching kdramas, and contemplating them through podcasts, OSTs, and fanfics.”
I mistakenly read Squash’s answer from last year! 🙈

(S3) EP#133: What Went Down: Moving Final Thoughts
Today's episode is a What Went Down one for Disney+ hit drama, Moving! I was finally able to sit down and go through my thoughts on Moving, a drama I tried to dub top drama of the year for me after only 4 episodes in a Ramblings & Musings episode. So, tune in now to see if I allowed Moving to keep that honor or if there was something that changed my mind! Also, know this episode is mostly spoiler-free!
(S3) EP#132: Let’s See What’s Up: Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun Initial Thoughts
Today's episode is where we see what's up with Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun! After watching the first 4 episodes, I thought I'd give my initial thoughts on the return of our twins Eun Seom and Saya! I'm not too sure how many people will actually check out this season 2, but if you're interested to know what I think of it and if I'll continue watching it, tune in now!
(S3) EP#131: Hold Up: Destined with You & A Time Called You Midpoint Thoughts
Today's episode is a quick Midpoint Thoughts one on Destined with You and A Time Called You. I've finally caught up with Destined with You, so I have some thoughts about this drama albeit a little late! I also thought it would be a fine idea to throw in some midpoint thoughts on A Time Called You as I have yet to finish it, but before I do...I need to share my piece about how I'm feeling with this complicated time-slip tale.
(S3) EP#130: Hold Up: My Dearest Midpoint Thoughts
Today's episode is my dearest My Dearest thoughts at this midpoint of the drama! As we're waiting for part two, I wanted to take a minute to talk through how I'm feeling and to lay out some of my confusions about part one and my expectations about part two. I also meant for this episode to be a lot shorter than it is; however, I let myself get carried away as I realized I had quite a few thoughts about only the first half of this drama. To find out where my loyalty lies with these two, listen now!
(S3) EP#129: Lola’s Ramblings & Musings – Durian’s Affair, Not Others, My Lovely Liar, Moving, The Killing Vote, My Dearest & More!

Today's episode is the finale of my vacation series, Hit Me with Your Best Shot: Fire Away Q&A w/Lola! It’s also my first time ever recording a Q&A episode, so I was weirdly nervous and excited about it! I want to thank everyone who submitted questions--they were all such amazing questions and gave me the chance to tell you more about me and my background but also about Kdramas I consider the worst I’ve ever watched and how I've experienced Kdramas and the world around me! So, to find out about all of that and so much more, please tune in for this special Q&A episode!
While responding to some questions, I referenced a few previous episodes and blog posts. I thought it would be nice to link them below so you can check them out if you haven't already!

Today's episode is another Let's See What's Up! I give my initial thoughts on the first four episodes of Revenant and Numbers, and first two episodes of Heartbeat. I wanted to round out all the new dramas from June with squeezing these three in here. But I can say I'm not sure June really turned out to be the Kdramageddon I thought it would be. Listen now to this episode to find out why I thought it was a bright idea to start Revenant, how my humanities background wants nothing to with Numbers, and what it looks like when a drama has everything you want and more, so you start it in a Heartbeat!
