S4 | Ep. 14: Unraveling Fast Fashion - Director Eva Orner Exposes Brandi Melville's Dark Threads in a New Documentary

Step into the shadowy world of fast fashion and its disconcerting impact on society and our planet in this episode of Look Behind The Look. Let's unveil the chilling truths behind the glitz of the fashion industry through an enlightening conversation with director Eva Orner. Her documentary which premiered at SXSW, and is now streaming on HBO Max, exposes the unsettling practices of Brandy Melville and the broader implications of fast fashion.

Eva's film reveals the exploitation and environmental havoc wrought by this multi-trillion-dollar industry. From the deceptive allure of social media marketing to the stark reality of one-size-fits-all clothing's exclusivity, the discussion dives deep into the heart of the issues. The conversation also tackles the complex challenge of sustainable consumption, debunking the myth that eco-friendly fashion is a luxury only the wealthy can afford.

This episode isn't just about the dark side of fashion—it's a call to action, a guide to making more ethical choices, and a tribute to the brave young women who dared to speak out against industry giants. Enjoy the episode and tell us what you think!

My favorite movie this year has been SALTBURN.  There.  I said it.  I
was thrilled to speak to Makeup and Hair Designer Siân Miller about her work in this film. Whether this polarizing film was one that you loved or hated, it is
coming out on digital Dec. 21 via AMAZON Prime. So gather the family 'round and enjoy! I loved talking to Siân about the looks behind Carey Mulligan's visually stunning cameo, Jacob Elordi and Alison Oliver's matching tattoos with secret messages and did I mention Jacob's hair secrets?
Because we cover all that too...
Siân's meticulous approach and attention to detail is what made this
film the glorious puzzle that you love to decode. Enjoy this conversation and stay away from that bathtub!

S4 | Ep. 6: POOR THINGS Nadia Stacey breaks down William Defoe's face, Emma Stone's eyebrows, and so much more!

Headed your way in the coming weeks is a barrage of Award-Contenders because 'Tis Awards Season.  There's no shortage of incredible work to say and today I am bringing you a conversation with returning guest, Nadia Stacey.  We are going to break down POOR THINGS and talk about creating Willem Dafoe's face which successfully told it's own story, Emma Stone's evolution as Bella and so much more.  Nadia also lets me know about Yorgos' "no wigs" rule and she shares that it was a complete surprise to her that the film would also be shot in black and white and we talk about what she did with that information to adjust accordingly.  I know you enjoyed the film (in theaters, I hope!) and now it's time to hear how this incredible artist created these fantastical looks.  Enjoy!

S4 | Ep. 3: Hair Dept. Head, Cliona Furey talks PRISCILLA, wig city!

The new film from A24, Sophia Coppola's PRISCILLA, is an undisputed feast for the eyes.  Released on this past weekend, you hopefully got yourself to the theater to see the incredible detail that was put in to the costumes, set design, hair, makeup and cinematography.  As a frequent visitor to Graceland myself and a person who has been known to study every last detail of Priscilla, Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley's aesthetic, I was truly impressed with the visuals because they honored the historical detail while also being unmistakingly Sophia's vision.  I loved having Hair Designer Cliona Furey back on the pod to talk about her unbelievable work (no doubt it has been in your feed this entire week!).  It's deservedly getting tons of Awards Buzz, and you will love hearing about how she did it, straight from Cliona herself.  Enjoy!

Hello Hello! No, you aren't imagining things- we are talking about The Bear again because this season absolutely deserves two episodes.  Today's is with Hair Department Head, Ally Vickers and she talks about her much discussed brilliant work (coined "dirtbag chic" by many) with Jeremy Allen White, and turning Abby Elliot from blonde to brunette and back again within a week. She takes us behind the scenes with Will Poulter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the entire cast of this beloved show. You'll hear from Ally about her Mood Videos that she creates for her characters, and if you are watching on YouTube (subscribe now BTW) you will see the one she created for Donna (played by Jamie Lee Curtis of course). Enjoy!

THE BEAR. It's your favorite show and these are your favorite characters. I am breaking my hiatus to bring you this episode because you know we all need it. Ignacia Soto-Aguilar will tell you in this episode about THE LASH (you know the one on Jamie Lee Curtis' face that broke the internet)! I love talking to Ignacia about her projects because while she is a makeup artist, what you may not know is that she thinks like a filmmaker. Listen as she tells me what it was like shooting Episode 6 - "Fishes", that incredible Christmas dinner scene where ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. And Will Poulter's tatts based on his personal story - he needed nurses everywhere and hot sauce bottles?! - as well as the Brownies that he made himself and brought to set in this very special bonus episode about this very special show.

**GUILTY PLEASURE ALERT! Only visit this episode if you are willing to admit to yourself that you devour episodes of Vanderpump Rules... It was the shot heard around the world- the announcement of the most talked about scandal in recent pop culture history. The betrayal of the beloved reality television star Ariana Madix by way of an affair between her long-time partner Tom Sandoval and her close friend Raquel Leviss. Known as #Scandoval this brought all eyes to Vanderpump Rules. As longtime fans who devour every episode, my friend and actress Katie Walder (you know Katie from shows like Gilmore Girls, Mad Men, and How I Met Your Mother) and I decided we need to do an episode with makeup artist Jared Lipscomb. Jared is a makeup artist who, among his many talents, works often with the cast of Vanderpump Rules and is a dear friend to Ariana. We talk about how tricky the balance can be between client and friend and what it was like being in the room as Ariana Madix prepared herself for the upcoming Vanderpump Reunion which will surely be the Reality TV Superbowl. Jared is also a cancer survivor. Katie and I speak to him about his health journey and he tells us about the amazing organization, Be The Match which can help you to save someone's life. ...And keep an eye out for Katie on Station 19 4/6 on ABC at 8pm BE THE MATCH https://bethematch.org/ Jared's IG https://www.instagram.com/jaredlips/ Katie's IG https://www.instagram.com/iamkatiewalder/ Time Codes – 4:37 Reality TV make-up 5:35 Jared’s origin story 8:42 How he got the call for VP! 10:03 The Reunion Show 10:34 “I’m in” 12:03 No HMU on girl’s trips to Mexico?! 13:10 Ariana! 14:00 “We never know the lighting” 15:00 Private make-up artists vs. BRAVO artists 15:40 BRAVO don’t pay! 15:59 Reunion ‘looks’ 17:30 True contour vs. bronzer 18:29 Red carpet vibes find their way into Reunion Shows 19:20 The Fans 20:30“Where were you when you found out about #scandavol?” 21:30 My battle with leukemia 26:00 Neutral? I had a great time talking to Avery Plewes about the huge responsibility she carried by costume designing Scream VI.  Entering this beloved franchise and grabbing Ghostface by the... well... face, she conquered a huge job of ensuring the fans felt appreciated and the beloved installments were respectfully honored. Listen to how she assembled the museum with her team, and helped to make Gale Weathers look the best she's ever looked (IMHO).

This week's Episode is a conversation I had with Oscar and BAFTA nominee, Heike Merker about her work as makeup and hair department head on the Netflix film ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT which is getting a tremendous amount of attention this awards season.  Finding herself quite literally on the Front Lines of this project, we talk about her challenges, the physical demands and how she discovered the ability to paint artistically using mud, dirt, pigments and even macha (!) to create stunning, painterly looks that convey the duality of war and the inner life of the film's protagonist.  This was a tremendously hard film to make.  Listen to Heike talk (hilariously) about getting so stuck in the mud that she literally couldn't move one inch.  And how she found inspiration on set and in the moment for the film's signature macha mask look.  Tune in!

S3 | Ep. 11 AMSTERDAM'S incredible hair & makeup team talk period wig mania, Christian Bale's insane hair, Margot Robbie as a brunette, and Mike Myers' prosthetics!

In this episode, you will learn absolutely everything you want to know about the makeup and hair design in the film, Amsterdam.  All the details behind Margot Robbie's beautiful looks and the effort put into the most perfect shade of brunette I've ever seen are broken down by Lori McCoy-Bell (hair department head), Oscar Winner, Adruitha Lee (hair co-department head), and Nana Fischer (makeup department head).  We discuss Christian Bale, Taylor Swift, and Anya Taylor-Joy's many looks as well.  Frequent collaborators with director David O. Russell, these women discuss their process, reveal their painstaking detail and we celebrate their successful jumps between periods.  And hold your breath as you hear the story about re-envisioning Mike Myers' entire look on a moment's notice and working with Jason Collins to remain in line with the overall look of the film.  It cannot be denied that these ladies executed impeccable work which I encourage you all to see upon its upcoming digital release.

Ep 20 | S2: Cowboy Bebop Costume Designer Jane Holland Talks About What Happens When Your Show Gets Cancelled Abruptly?

A delightful conversation with New Zealand's own costume designer, Jane Holland, where she opens up about the intense craftsmanship that went into Spike Spiegel's (actor John Cho's) iconic blue suit in Cowboy Bebop - the tailoring, influences from the graphic novel, the gorgeous lining only actor John Cho knew about, and a secret 'easter egg' of sorts: handmade buttons with a water symbol - all part of a legacy costume (one the character wears the whole project!).  Also, the hundreds of versions that were made of the blue suit for all the action sequences.  Jane discusses the heartbreak of the shows sudden cancellation by Netflix after creating an entire studio workshop for the characters' intricate wardrobe.  Jane discusses throwing herself into projects and how if you don't go all in, you aren't taking a risk, so NO REGRETS.  From her beginnings working on Jane Campion's Oscar-winning The Piano to Xena: Warrior Princess, Jane sings the praises of New Zealand's tightly knit and vital film community as well as her recent colabs with her son!
