In this episode I talked with Dr. Kristen Willeumier. Kristen Willeumier, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist with research expertise in neurobiology and neuroimaging. Dr. Willeumier holds a B.A. degree in psychology from Boston College, M.S. degrees in physiological science and neurobiology, and a Ph.D. degree in neurobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles.  She conducted her graduate work in the laboratory of neurophysiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the laboratory of neurogenetics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She was a postdoctoral scientist in the Department of Neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she continued her work in neurodegenerative disease, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease.  During her doctoral training at UCLA and Cedars- Sinai Medical Center she was awarded an NIH NRSA fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health. She has presented her work at national and international scientific meetings including the Society for Neuroscience and the Gordon Research Conference in Honk Kong, China. EPISODE 64: My Journey of Impossible Transformation with Amy Downs
In this episode I spoke with Amy Downs. Amy Downs is a miracle story. At 28 years of age, she was a self-described lazy, college dropout who had recently put on 100 extra pounds. On April 19, 1995, she was working as a credit card loan officer at the Federal Employees Credit Union located in the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City when she found herself buried alive, upside down in the basement of a nine-story building. With 168 people killed and more than half of her colleagues dying from the deadliest act of domestic violence in American history, Downs was one of the last people to be pulled out of the rubble alive.
