Have you ever felt alone? Have you ever wondered what it's REALLY like to live in full alignment with your personal truth? Are struggling through some tough times trying to find your way to a life that feels more.... YOU? Here, you won't find (yet another) guru with "the answers". You'll just find the original, authentic and powerful journey of a woman who once worked hard to make everyone ELSE happy - failed miserably - and is now forging a path forward built on honoring her deepest Self. Here's a hint: it's often messy, but ultimately... worth it.
Race in America has been a source of conflict, struggle and violence since before America became “America”. So, what’s change? And, what hasn’t? In this episode we spoke with local, national, and global social just leaders, Pastor JW Matt Hennessee and Rev. Dr. David Alexander, about the issues that are re-shaping America as we know it.
This was both a deeply personal conversation as these two leaders shared their personal experiences, as well as a powerful discussion of how racism shows up, what black people are really dealing with, and how white people can help.
The Song of the Week was “Keep Your Eyes One The Prize” by Portland’s First Lady of the Blues, LaRhonda Steele. www.LaRhondaSteele.com
These two leaders were gracious enough to continue the conversation after the live show ended for an additional half hour. This can be found in our FAN Club here: https://www.patreon.com/riseandshineasone

What if “normal” never comes back? Change, uncertainty and loss and can stir up feelings of grief and depression. How do we step forward into the unknown in a positive way? How do we begin to create our “new normal” consciously and deliberately? In this episode, we talked with Christine Green about how to surrender the past, release old behaviors and move forward mindfully.
It might seem strange to say we had fun on this episode, but there was laughter and entertainment, even as we dove into things like:
Why old models aren’t a good reflection of how grief really works, and ways to think about it that are healthier.
Why letting go of what was once can be so challenging, and how we can move forward with more ease.
Several specific tools to interrupt ruminating and work through difficult emotions.
And so much more!

Has a song ever made you cry, lifted your spirits out of a dark place, or caused you to start tapping your foot along with the beat before you knew what you were doing? Music is used in movies to create emotions behind the action because it connects with something deep inside.
This week, we spoke with Michal Golan and Wendalyn Bartley about the power of music to not just move us, but to heal us as well.
Michal is a mindful music teacher, a co-active coach, a spiritual yogi and talented musician who integrates music, yoga and mindfulness into her teaching practice to help kids access their inner voice, gifts and highest self. She talked about:
How she’s using music to help children develop emotional intelligence.
How music, colors and chakras come together to help children develop awareness, not just of rhythm and harmonies, but how music affects them mentally, emotionally and physically.
How music helped her heal from grief after her father passed.
You can learn more about Michal’s work at www.MindfulMusicOnline.com.
Wendalyn is a composer, sonic oracle, creative vocal coach and sound energy practitioner dedicated to awakening the embodied voice of the feminine, the earth, and a reunited humanity. She talked about:
How she connects music with nature to create meditative and healing pieces.
How she uses music to help women find their voice and increase self-confidence.
How she incorporates myth, music, and the energy of locations around the world.

I have been processing what's happening across our nation and doing some writing about it on my blog, as well as on Facebook, but after talking with journalist Jacqueline Keeler as part of the Rise 'n Shine! show, I thought I'd share a bit of my personal journey with bigotry, race, and my work toward becoming an ally.
We scheduled this show several weeks ago – before George Floyd was murdered, before the protests began, before the undercurrent of outrage, pain and anger boiled over. Yet, the timing was perfect.
Indigenous nations across this country have been subject to police brutality without justice for generations as well. Our guest, Diné/Ihanktonwan Dakota Journalist Jacqueline Keeler, made this episode personal when she shared her own family’s story.
In this conversation we also explored:
· the impact protests are having on indigenous communities
· what it means to be a sovereign nation existing inside the borders of a larger country, and how the relationship is constantly tested
· the challenges of the reservations as they face increasing cases of covid-19, and what they’re doing about it to ensure the safety of both their own citizens as well as surrounding communities
Jacqueline went in depth into these issues and so much more, including how listeners can help, her thoughts on how to heal the nation of racism.
This is a powerful episode that will leave a lasting impression.
The song “Deal With The Devil (Look What We’ve Done) by award-winning musician Alan Peterson was also featured.

Unemployment hasn’t been this high since 1940, which means there’s a lot of uncertainty and unwanted life transitions happening. Which is why we brought Kiran Prasad and Renee Spears to the show this week.
Kiran shared life lessons from her own 30 moves as well as what she’s learned from expert interviews and spiritual practices about what it takes to feel grounded and at home, where ever you are, including:
How important structure and routines are; even the little ones. Do you wake up and look for news on your phone or do you wake up and meditate, for example? Your routines help set the tone of the day.
What kinds of coping strategies she uses to create and stay calm, and make the mental and emotional challenges of life transitions and moves easier.
How to maintain social connections, even from a distance. Karin shared examples of some of the ways she’s keeping up relationships as well as ways in which she’s exploring new things, like virtual karaoke nights and volunteering to read online to kids.
Renee Spears shared how we can get our mind right, stay positive and attract abundance into our lives, even through the most challenging times, including:
Simple ways to help yourself feel good, no matter what’s going on around you – and why it’s so important. It’s not about looking at the world through rose-colored glasses, but being able to stay centered and connected to your intuition.
The vital necessity of daydreaming to manifesting the reality we really want. It’s not “wasted time” as so many of us have been taught to believe, but essential to living joyfully and abundantly.
Interestingly, both guests commented on the importance of having an ongoing, daily gratitude practice to help create calm, re-center, and remain focused on the vision we hold.

On this week’s Rise ‘n Shine! Radio show we spoke with research scientist Tom Paladino about Scalar Light, an ancient universal energy that is now being harnessed for its healing abilities. We asked Tom about what Scalar Light really is, how it works, and what the implications for this new form of energy might be for humanity.
Here are a few things we learned from him during the show:
· Much like electricity, Scalar Energy is naturally occurring. And, like electricity, as we learn how to harness and direct it, the benefits we can gain from it increase, including applications for green technology.
· Scalar Energy was originally harnessed by Nikola Tesla with the intention of providing free, green energy to the world.
· Scalar Energy is currently be used as a healing modality that’s non-invasive, natural, and without side-effects.
Tom provided the website address for those interested in trying Scalar Light for themselves as well.
Tom’s research into Scalar Energy has spanned about 40 years so far, and we couldn’t fit every question we had into a single hour. He graciously stayed on for another 45 minutes with us after the live show and allowed us to ask even more questions.
In the after-show interview, Tom went even more in-depth into:
· The history behind Scalar Energy and why it’s not widely available today despite having been harness by Tesla almost 100 years ago.
· Some of the politics behind emerging knowledge like Scalar Light
· And so much more!

If you’re interested in adding tools to your toolbox that help decrease stress and strengthen your family, this show is a must. We spoke with two leaders in childhood development and family empowerment, Deborah McNelis and Dr. Paula Fellingham.
Deborah McNelis is an early brain development specialist and the creator of the Neuro-Nurturing Interaction Packets. These simple, effective activities parents do with their children, support brain development, and decrease the effects of trauma and stress. She shared:
· The 4 elements of Neuro-Nurturing to help parents nurture the development with their child in a way that truly meets their needs include:
· How Neuro-Nurturing not only builds confidence and self-esteem for children, but for parents as well.
· How simple activities can be part of normal activities, rather than adding more to a parent’s to-do list.
“Every child is worthwhile,” say McNelis, “but helping THEM realize that is critically important.”
Get the Neuro-Nurturing guide, Circle of Potential Model, and 10 sample activities for FREE at Braininsightsonline.com
Dr. Fellingham, has traveled to 37 nations to empower women and inspire youth, raised 8 kids who enjoyed performing as a musical group for 12 summers across the U.S. and Europe, and received three prestigious presidential awards for her work. She shared:
· The 10 characteristics of happy, successful children
· The ONLY 3 ways to teach a child
· Disciplining in a way that builds relationships rather than being punishing
· What the ultimate goal is when disciplining your child
· What the BEST ways are to teach your child how to behave WELL. She provides specific examples of what to do and NOT do to be effect as a parent.
· What the 5 things are that ALL people really WANT – children and adults alike.

Typically, I use my entire birthday month of April to self-reflect on who I've been this past year and who I want to be moving forward, what's working, what's not, and whatever else comes up. This year, I've been swamped with the process of launching our radio show, but it's been totally worth it. I took some time this afternoon to do some much-needed reflecting on my afternoon walk though and thought I share it with you.
This show originally aired on VoiceAmerica - Variety Channel, and can be heard anytime at https://www.voiceamerica.com/episode/123082/movie-producer-shares-climate-solutions-for-earth-days-50th-anniversary To learn more about the background of Rise 'n Shine!, listen to Season 2, Episode 1 of this podcast, recorded on April 23, 2020. Or, dive right in here and enjoy Mark and I interviewing writer, producer and director, Matt Briggs about how to fix the climate crises and the opportunity that Covid-19 has given us.
What happens within each of us is also what's happening for all of us - and much of it is needed. It may be difficult, but there's hope and possibility within the transformations we're seeing. Ask the key questions, and join me as we move forward into a future we get to re-imagine... better than ever.
What do you do when you wake up and realize there's an empty void inside that you've been trying to fill in all the wrong ways for far too many years? Today, I looked into that void and found some ways to start filling it for myself.
My plans are starting to shift, adjust and change as I acknowledge that I'm now past the 1/2 way point of this 30 day process and taking stock of where I am, what I'm working on, and what may - or may not - be realistic to achieve.
I got to laugh at myself! Working to get a little traction and then be surprised when I do... figures! Ah... gotta love this human adventure. Spoke with my (former?) partner and did some really wonderful clearing work too.
Waking up after a full day of crying isn't easy, but it's worth it. I'm proud of myself for working through things - no matter how messy it got!
If this story resonates with you, you're welcome to join the Rising Women's Safe Haven group on Facebook. It's a supportive, moderated community of women in transition learning to rise through it all. https://www.facebook.com/groups/risingwomensafehaven/
Finding the courage to stop hiding and allow myself to be seen and heard really pushes buttons! But, I know in long run, it's the only way to not only be of service to others in the world, but to also create and keep the kind of relationship I really want.
If this story resonated with you and you'd like to connect with a supportive tribe of women in transition and rising, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/risingwomensafehaven/ I look forward to connecting with you there!
The work continues... both toward building my professional dream and re-building myself from the inside out. I had a great big awareness about an unconscious addiction that's been holding me back and hindering my ability to create the life and relationships I want.
I walked away from the life I had and stepped into a whole new lifestyle with no back up plan. This is the raw and real documentation of how it's going and what I'm doing. I've dubbed it "Ache to Great" because the challenges are real... and I'm hopeful it'll all turn out GREAT! But... I don' t know yet. Follow the journey....
We all have a shadow side to us. For the helpers and healers of the world though, this pattern will not just hold you back from being the best you can be, it will cause real damage in others' lives as well. Take a few minutes to check in the mirror of self-reflection to make sure that this pattern doesn't describe you.
This is a short version of something I've been thinking about lately... how gratitude is sometimes weaponized and used to keep us stuck rather than moving us forward. For a more in-depth take on it, check out the article on my blog: The Dark Side of Gratitude OR, if you're looking for the link that's mentioned in the podcast, here it is: https://www.leverageforexperts.com/rising-messengers
Still working on the funnel and seeing some results. Here are the next steps. And, what life has been teaching me the last few days about standing in my truth and a very powerful question to be asking.
A shout out to our veterans today... active duty, retired, and passed. I honor your sacrifices even when I do not agree with the policies that required your sacrifice. And.... today is test day! That challenge I've been doing...? It's coming together!
I watched the movie "Downsizing" last night and it got me thinking... not just about our impact on the planet, but about the wealthy/poor stereotypes we've bought into and how we trap ourselves with beliefs like "to be happy means we must be poor martyrs" and "the rich are only rich because they take advantage of others." Here's an invitation for something new....
My experience with my mother was vastly different from what (I hope) my daughter experienced from me as a mother. This one aspect though has an incredible ripple effect through our relationships, and through the generations.
We've all had those people in our lives who mean well but wind up acting like dream killers in their efforts to love and protect us. I spent the weekend arguing with mine, literally and figuratively. This morning through, I had a powerful shift in perspective....
I've hit a wall today; that inevitable wall that rises up when you're halfway through and start questioning everything. It's where we have the opportunity to make a key decision. For me, I learned one invaluable lesson that I got to apply over and over and over again when I was working on my master's degree. Now, it's that same lesson that I'm leaning on to get through this too.
Wow! I got inspired this morning... I was listening to a training call and we were asked, "Why do you really do what you do?" and "What do you get most emotionally charged around?" I realized what I REALLY get fired up around and why... it's a lot like the charcoal becoming a diamond though... beautiful in the end, but black, messy and stressful in the process.
What would you do if your teenage children came to you and said, "break up with him or we'll never speak to you again"? This is my journey through hard choices, loss, and learning to rise again. In this episode, I talk about who I once was, why I decided to make some changes, why my kids no longer speak to me, and how I got through it all without regrets...
