59 - DuckTales

59 - DuckTales

What better gift to give that special person in your life on Valentine's Day than a podcast about DuckTales? Let's be honest.. this game has everything you should be looking for in a game.. Drama, intrigue, money, greed, and a final race to the top against your archrival. And isn't that what Valentine's Day is really about? Actually, let me check Google really quickly... Hmmm.. interesting.. I see...... It seems it is not.

58 - Golvellius: Valley of Doom

58 - Golvellius: Valley of Doom

Well here's that Halloween-centric episode that we all look forward to in February of each year. So fire up your pumpkin spice lattes and prepare yourself to be whisked away to Golvellius. (Also, just between us.. the game isn't really that "Halloween-y".. keep that between you and I, capiche?)

57 - Sewer Shark

57 - Sewer Shark

Episode number two in our backlog remediation plan (and number 57 in our hearts) centers around one of the most famous on-rails FPS FMV games for the SegaCD. Yep.. you guessed it.. Sewer Shark. Also, it's in the title of the episode so we're really not that impressed that you guessed it. Unless you're under forty years old.. then it's impressive that you've even taken the time to read this far.

56 - Skate or Die!

56 - Skate or Die!

Well well well.. what do we have here? Looks like a "new" episode of our show. Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is there's a backlog that we will be posting over the course of the next few days. The bad news is there was a backlog that needs to get posted over the new few days. Now with that out of the way, let's get to what we're all here for: FULL FRONTAL NUDITY

Thank you for listening! Please give us five stars and all of your wildest dreams will come true.

55 - Stadium Events

55 - Stadium Events

Do you like running fast, jumping hurdles or competing in family fun and fitness?.... Yeah, we don't either, but if you think you are fast and you want to talk about the proverbial "great white whale" of the NES (ironically he lost his leg and we are talking about a running game...Ahab lost the leg, Mike and Jay are talking games) then you are in luck.

Buckle up it's a wild ride, this episode is packed with collecting, stories of the chase, math lessons and rants.... Did we find a copy of Stadium Events? You will have to listen to find out.

Thank you for listening. We appreciate you all!

54 - Golden Axe

54 - Golden Axe

Let's whisk away to Yuria. A land where the reptile fiend Death Adder has invaded every village and massacred thousands. Doesn't sound very appealing does it?

Well, what if we told you that when you get there you're going to assume control of one of three powerful heroes who's only mission is to overthrow Death Adder and bring peace to Yuria, using a combination of melee and magic attacks? OK, we can tell you're still not convinced.

So what if, when you're one of these three heroes, you also get to kick squirrels and ride Bizarrians? Yeah.. we can see that moved the needle. You're in, aren't you?

So let's all head to Yuria and take on Death Adder. It's time to save the King and his daughter and reclaim the legendary Golden Axe.

53 - Video Game Investing with Chase Peridot, AKA the "Retro Gem Miner"

53 - Video Game Investing with Chase Peridot, AKA the "Retro Gem Miner"

Well, this is it. Are you ready to step into the world of high-risk video game investing? If so, THIS is your chance. Chase Peridot, AKA the "Retro Gem Miner" has agreed to waive his standard appearance fee in the hopes that he can enlighten unsophisticated collectors.

--

That's right.. RGM is willing to teach you everything you need to know about video game investments, including an up-to-date review of his Seven Golden Rules for Video Game Investing and which video game-adjacent food items currently on store shelves that you should be looking at investing in.

--

So don't forego this rare opportunity to get inside the mind of one of the brightest stars in investing. It's time to stop being a scrud and start ruling the social media airwaves. Are you willing to accept that everything you've ever known about collecting video games is WRONG and start understanding the right way to do it? You'd better be if you're going to listen to this episode.

52 - Illusion of Gaia

52 - Illusion of Gaia

The boys are back (finally) and this time they're discussing another certified banger: Illusion of Gaia for the Super Nintendo.

--

If you've ever thought "I'd like to listen to some old guys talk about a game where a pig sacrifices himself for the betterment of humanity" then do we have good news for you. So tune in and find out what drove Hamlet to this lowly state.

Thank you so much for listening. We appreciate your patience with us. We also appreciate you!

51 - T&C Surf Designs: Wood and Water Rage

51 - T&C Surf Designs: Wood and Water Rage

Town and Country Surf Designs: Wood and Water Rage. The name just rolls off the tongue. Developed by Atlas and published by the clowns at LJN, this is a simple game that reminds us of a simpler time. A time where cats in tuxedos avoid seagulls while surfing. So we hope you'll take a few minutes out of your busy day to listen to our thoughts on one of the most 80's games in the NES library.

-

As always, thank you for listening! We appreciate anyone who really does take time to listen to our insane rants.

50 - Quake

50 - Quake

Well.. here we are.. Episode 50. And man.. did we come correct. Quake for the PC is the subject. When people talk about the bangeriest of bangers, Quake is in that discussion.

--

So tune in and see what the crew thinks of the game that helped do things like create online deathmatches, popularize eSports, and prevent thousands of nerds from ever kissing a girl.

--

Thank you for tuning in. We appreciate your support. Tell a friend about the show, even if it's just as simple as "wanna hear something that sucks?"

49 - Yars' Revenge

49 - Yars' Revenge

Yars' Revenge.. sounds ominous and, come to find out, it is. The LJN squad dug into the story of this 1982 classic from Atari and man.. there's a lot to unpack. To us, the most impressive part of the backstory of Yars' Revenge is that the primary antagonist was able to destroy an invincible cannon. That could not have been an easy task to take on, but it's true. So tune in to the latest episode to find out more about things like "what is a 'Yar'", "how do you pronounce 'Qotile'?" and "are these nerds playing 'Tears of the Kingdom'?".

-

As always, we appreciate you listening. We really do. We keep saying it, but it's true. Thank you!

48 - Streets of Rage 2

48 - Streets of Rage 2

It's time to get gritty.. but with some legit electro music pumping in the background. Streets of Rage 2 a certified banger, as well as Yuzo Koshiro's aural masterpiece. So tune in and give us a listen. The whole crew chimes in on what many consider to be one of the must-haves for the Sega Genesis / MegaDrive.

-

Thank you all for listening! We appreciate every single one of you. If it wasn't for you, we'd be nothing.. or maybe even less. OK definitely less.

45 - Baseball Stars

45 - Baseball Stars

Spring is in the air, which means it's time for baseball. Well.. it used to mean that, back when people cared about baseball. The good news is that people still care about Baseball Stars for the NES. Well.. at least a few of them, who all happen to be on this show.

44 - Parodius Da!

44 - Parodius Da!

Now we know that a lot of people are going to complain and say "Oh wow.. the LJN guys are doing another NES game. *YAWN*".  Well that's just not true.  We played the Famicom version of Parodius Da! and the Famicom is NOT the NES.  And before you get all uppity about how we also played the PAL version of the game, remember that it's generally regarded as the "nes" in Europe.  To us, that's just not the same thing.
-
Remember, if you see us at Midwest Gaming Classic, show us your 5* review of the show and you'll get a free copy of Super Mario Bros 3 for the Famicom.  Also, if you tell us "Buy me Bonestorm or go to Hell!", you'll get 10% off everything in the booth.

43 - Contra

The year in 1988 and you're Bill Rizer AKA Mad Dog, one of America's two most cunning, courageous, and ruthless soldiers from the Special Forces elite commando squad.   Also, you look almost exactly like Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Predator", other than your perfect flat-top haircut.  Your partner, Lance Bean, goes by Scorpion and also resembles someone from "Predator".  You have both been chosen to stop Red Falcon and bring peace to the planet.  You see, Red Falcon has been running the long con.  They've been waiting thirty years to take over Earth and now.. the time has come.   Can this dynamic duo defeat the dastardly detractor and dodge disaster?   Tune in and find out!

41 - Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones

41 - Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones

When you do research about classic video games, you learn things.  Take Double Dragon III, for example. We learned that Bimmy Lee may be the most loyal partner in the world.  His girlfriend has been kidnapped (AGAIN) so he and his brother, Jimmy set out on a mission.  A mission to KICK ASS all over the world, in an attempt to find Marion and rescue her.

-

Or maybe it's Jimmy Lee that's TRULY the most loyal.  Think about it.  He is always right there, ready to lend a helping hand in the constant need to rescue his brother's girl.

-

Or maybe it's you: our loyal listener. You listen to us prattle on for hours at a time about games like RBI Baseball.  You must have the patience of a saint, and for that we thank you.

-

Thank you for listening.  We truly appreciate every one of you that chooses to spend a part of your day with us.  #onelove

40 - Kid Chameleon

So you think you're radical, huh?  Yeah?  HOW radical?  Because we've got news for you JACK.. you will NEVER be as radical as Casey.  Oh, you don't know who Casey is?  Your Radical Meter just dipped into oblivion, poser.  Casey is KID CHAMELEON and he's the toughest, coolest head in town.  He REFUSES to be beaten.

Yeah, that's right.  So come join the LJN crew and listen us fawn all over the coolest kid in the neighborhood.  Kid Chameleon could steal your car and your girl if he wanted to, but he's not a jerk.  No, he's..

39 - Mega Man 2

39 - Mega Man 2

"Mega Man 2."  What else do you need to say?  If you have a podcast like we do, the answer is "quite a bit, actually".  Mega Man 2 makes us wonder:  are there people that DON'T like this game?  We here at LJN like to imagine there aren't.   And lets be honest.. even if they do exist, are those really the kind of people you'd want to be associated with?  The answer is no.
-
As always, thank you for listening!  We appreciate each and every one of you.  If you are ever so inclined, please leave us a five-star review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or within your podcast aggregator of choice.

37 - Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns

37 - Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns

The crew is lucky to be joined by friend of the show and co-host of The Collector's Quest podcast, Tyler Wilkin.   We used our time wisely and discussed one of the bangeriest Atari 2600 bangers of all-time:  Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns.

We are here answering the tough questions like "what's the deal with this stupid rat" and "does Quickclaw have some sort of neurological disorder"?  Also, why is Pitfall Harry's young niece lost in the depths of these uncharted caverns in the middle of Peru?   If you want to find out, tune in and listen!  Or, if you don't, just listen to the beginning and dip out when we get into the game itself.  It's cool.  We know you're busy.

As always, thank you for listening.  It means a lot to us that you're willing to waste your time listening to us talk when we are sure there are better things you could be wasting it on.

If you like what you hear, please leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.. or anywhere they'll let you.  Hop on Yelp!, check-in to your local Bojangles, and mention the show in your review.

36 - Ridge Racer

The squad is back to talk about one of the best-selling launch titles for the original PlayStation: Ridge Racer.  Look, we get it.. early PlayStation is a tough sell.  Couple that with the game being an arcade-style racer and it's easy to see why the first iteration of the Ridge Racer series may leave a bit to be desired for some.    Tune in to find out what the boys think of one of the pioneers of 3D arcade racing.

As always, thank you for listening.  If you enjoy the show, please leave us a five-star review.  If you don't enjoy the show then why are you listening?  You should leave us a five-star review anyway.  That'll show us!

35 - Pit-Fighter

Pit-Fighter.  The name alone evokes such lucid imagery; shurikens, combatants in sweat pants and a tank top throwing motorcycles on a freeway overpass, and sticks.   If you have the time, sit back and allow Jay and Mike to whisk you away to a 16-bit wonderland.  A wonderland of digitized graphics and post-fight celebrations where defeating Sidewalk Jim gets you raised on a forklift while flexing and your adoring fans pile cash at your feet.

Thank you for listening!  We appreciate every one of you.  Also, we record this show live on Twitch every other Wednesday at 9PM Eastern, so come hang out!

33 - Dr. Chaos

The boys from LJN are back and this time it's serious.  Since it is now October, we are contractually obligated to discuss scary or horror-themed games.  To fulfill this requirement, Mike and Jay break down a game that could definitely be considered horrendous: Dr. Chaos for the Nintendo Entertainment System.  Tune and and find out why this game exists and who is responsible so they can be brought to justice.

32 - Arkanoid

Jay and Mike are joined in-studio by our good friend Kelan AKA milwaukeeretrogamer to discuss another certified banger of a game: Arkanoid.   That's right..  Johnny hasn't killed the show.. yet.

Tune in to hear our thoughts on the highest-grossing table arcade table cabinet in Japan in 1987.  Oh, did we mention it was ALSO the highest-grossing arcade conversion kit in the US?  Well it's true.  It was.

So sit back, kick your shoes off, relax, and whisk away to a story where the time and era are unknown.

As always, thank you for listening!  We appreciate each and every one of you.

31 - Super Castlevania IV

The squad is back.  This time they are joined by the one and only Johnny Iucci from The Collector's Quest Podcast and we are all here to discuss another certified banger:  Super Castlevania IV for the Super Nintendo.  Please pardon any fidelity issues, as we did record this remotely and there seemed to be some slight issues from time to time.  We did our best, which usually isn't very good.

Be sure to tune in to hear our thoughts.  They're funny.  We swear.  It's worth your time.  We're not sure how else to explain it to you so it's probably best that you just give it a listen.

Thank you always for listening!  We appreciate you all so much.  Please leave us a five-star review on Apple Podcasts.  Here's a secret.. even if you don't use Apple products, we are pretty sure you can still leave us a review.  Just don't tell THE MAN.

30 - Godzilla Games (NES)

30 - Godzilla Games (NES)

The Godzilla games for the NES.  Man.. trying to play these games is akin to trying to stay awake until 2:30AM on a Wednesday night to watch a Godzilla movie back in the old days when you had to watch what THE MAN told you to watch.  Those days are over and your entertainment medium choices in the modern world are almost limitless, which just makes the fact that you choose to listen to us mean that much more to the boys.

-

As always, thank you for listening.  Please leave us five stars on iTunes or Apple Podcasts or whatever it's called nowadays.  We can't tell you how much we appreciate your support.

The gang is joined by Michael Chiaramonte AKA clearvus on Instagram to discuss Castlevania: Dracula X for the Super Nintendo.  So listen in to hear what a bunch of middle-aged guys think of a 16-bit video game from the mid-90's.

As always, thank you for listening!  We appreciate every one of you.  Also, please leave us a five-star review on iTunes.  You could leave less stars, but that seems cruel.  We do all of this in an attempt to provide some semblance of entertainment to you at no cost, so leaving us a nice five-star review shouldn't be too much to ask.  Or maybe it is.. we don't know what your life or review-writing skills are like right now.

28 - Altered Beast

We're back!  We never went anywhere but we are back!  Episode 28 is, as they say in the biz, "in the can".  Tune in and hear the LJN squad's thoughts on the original pack-in title for the Sega Genesis / MegaDrive in the United States and Europe.  Also, hear about Mike's escapades in Cleveland at CCAG and much, much more..

As always, thank you for listening.  Please rate us five stars on Apple Podcasts, whether you enjoy the podcast or not.  We'd do the same for you if you asked (and maybe even if you didn't).

27 - Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)

27 - Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)

Our latest episode includes a very special in-studio guest, Jason (@kilgore_trout1 on Instagram).  Jason is a Michigan native who was kind enough to come into the LJN studio to discuss one his favorite games of all-time:  Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

-

And did we have a lot to talk about.  We get into the story of the sequel to one of the best-selling NES games ever and unearth such mysteries as "who's the girl in the bed sleeping behind Link every time I start this game?" and "why are all of these jackasses trying to kill me?"

-

We hope that you'll tune in and give it a listen.  And you don't even REALLY have to listen..  You could start playing the episode in your podcast aggregator of choice and turn the volume all the way down.  It's fine with us.

-

Thank you for your support.. we appreciate everyone of you!  Also, please rate us five stars on iTunes and we will be your friends.. or we WON'T be your friends if that's more compelling.

26 - R.B.I. Baseball

In the pantheon of retro video games, conversations around sports games are regarded as ELITE.  There's no disputing this irrefutable fact.  On a completely unrelated note, our latest epsiode IS a sports game:  R.B.I. Baseball for the NES.

So make sure to tune in and listen to us discuss the most compelling of all forms of video game entertainment.

Thank you for listening!  We love and appreciate you all.

P.S. Sorry for the delay in getting this one out.  Mike was on vacation which apparently means everyone is on vacation. :|

25 - The Typing of the Dead

Have you ever thought to yourself "I love the zombie killing and on-rails shooter experience of The House of the Dead series, but I have really poor aim"?  Do you find yourself looking for a good way to practice your home row typing skills and have an insatiable urge to become more accurate and proficient at typing on a keyboard?

If this sounds like you, then Sega's The Typing of the Dead may be just the game for you!

If not, well I don't know what to tell you.  Go play Mario or something.

So join Jay, John, Mike and Robby as we all discuss the best keyboard-based on-rails zombie shooter based off of a light gun series on the Dreamcast.

As always, thank you for listening!  We appreciate more than we can ever express.

24 - Phalanx (SNES)

24 - Phalanx (SNES)

The year is 1992 and you work for a marketing company.  It's your job to help market and sell mediocre games from an average developer and publisher.  A package arrives with a single Super Nintendo prototype.  You have to ask your son what to do with it because your job is to sell games, not play them.  He sets you up and you take a look at a pretty average side-scrolling space shooter.  You head to the bathroom because that is where you do your best work.  As you traverse through the doorway, you slip and hit your head on the toilet.

While laying face down on the cold linoleum floor, you have a vision.. a vision of a man.  He's an older man. Some would call him a "salt of the Earth" kind of guy, wearing a flannel shirt and denim bib overalls.  A brown fedora lays gracefully on his distinguished head.  His best friend, a dog, is by his side and, with his thick grey beard, he saunters in unassumingly and sits down.

Suddenly, a ship screams into view.  It's so bright you can barely make out that it's an A-144 Enforce Fighter.   A bolt of lightning cracks through the starlit sky.  Knocked off of your feet, you gather yourself and look back to the man in the chair to see that he is now holding the most powerful musical instrument in the world:

The Banjo

It's at this very moment that you awake from your concussed blackout and scream "THAT'S IT!" as you're strapped a gurney and placed in the back of an ambulance.

And thus the legend of Phalanx was born...

22- Gex

22- Gex

Do you like video games?  Do you like OLD video games?   What about moderately successful console mascots?  Do you have an affinity for small lizards?  If you answered yes to all of these questions, then this episode's topic may be everything you've ever wanted in a game.  8bitsupremacy and RetroGameEnthusiast join Mike and Jay to discuss the 1995 32-bit platformer featuring THE wise-cracking gecko with sunglasses: Gex.  Accept no substitutes.  It's a certified banger.

There's a lot of talk about the Midwest Gaming Classic and collecting.  If you want to skip all of that and cut right to the 'tude, the show topic starts at 1h06m35s.

As always, thank you for listening.  Your interaction and support mean so much to us.  Also, if you give us a 5-star review on iTunes, we will happily send you stickers and who knows what else.  That's right.. we are willing to buy your love.  So lock it in and rip the knob off...

21 - R-Type

21 - R-Type

So we FINALLY got back together to discuss another RIAA-certified banger.. R-Type.  A horizontal shooter with (alleged) puzzle elements.  We talk about the TurboGrafx-16 and Sega Master System versions of one of the grandaddies of horizontal shooters.  We are joined by 8bitsupremacy and retrogameenthusiast to get their LJN Game Ratings, as well.

Just a heads-up that there is a bit of a personal story at the beginning of this episode, so if you want to skip that you can get to the R-Type talk at 42m20s.

Thank you again for listening and sorry for the brief hiatus.  Also, congrats to rpgbros for winning this episode's contest.  We are running another contest, so listen until the end of the episode to learn how to enter.

20 - Dr. Chaos (Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Bad Dudes)

Don't let the episode title fool you.. we don't talk about Dr. Chaos AT ALL. That being said, we are back!  This time around, Jay and Mike are joined by two staples of the show, 8bitsupremacy and retrogameenthusiast.

Robby and John sit down to talk with us about their weeks, what they've picked up, and the real topic of the show:  Bad games and why we actually enjoy some of them.

Fair warning: This episode is an open discussion, but we really start to discuss the topic at the 1h17m mark.

Also, we are doing a giveaway of Castlevania Symphony of the Night for the PS1 (Greatest Hits Edition).  Listen later in the episode for details.  The contest closes at 6PM EST on Thursday, March 24th, 2022.  Here is the link you'll need once you know what information to provide:

So tune in and enjoy as much as is possible.  As always, thank you for listening!

For those that are interested in getting right to the subject matter, it starts at 41m06s.

18 - Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (NES)

Welcome back!  These days, the term "certified banger" is thrown around a lot , but we think this episode's subject qualifies:  Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! for the Nintendo Entertainment System.  Jay and Mike are joined by Matt Mayse, co-host of the Matty Ice and Marky Mark podcast.  Matt chose this game SO BACK OFF.

Seriously, this a long episode and there are definitely some "off the rails" moments, so if you want to skip straight to the subject matter, fast forward to 34m52s.  Or you could just skip the whole thing.. we wouldn't blame you.

14 - A Nightmare on Elm Street (NES)

Do you remember that song "A Nightmare on My Street" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince?  Man, I loved that song.  I remember their label got in trouble for copyright stuff and the video got pulled.  That's wack.

12 - Dragon Warrior (NES)

12 - Dragon Warrior (NES)

Hey.. it's been a while.  I know we said we were going out to get cigarettes a couple of months ago.. and we didn't come back.  Listen, all we can say is that we're very sorry and that it won't happen again.

That being said, we ARE back!  This episode was recorded in June and we know it's been too long since we got it out.  We almost scrapped it but decided against it because we actually thought it was pretty good.  We will be getting back to more regular releases immediately.

This episode goes over the OG of JRPGs: Dragon Warrior for the Nintendo Entertainment System.  We talk about it's release, the slog that can be the gameplay, and where it lives in the pantheon within the history of JRPGs.

Thank you again for listening and sticking with us.  We promise not to hurt you again.

So tune in and see what we thought about what many people think is the game with the greatest soundtrack in video game history.

Well, we did it.. double digits.. the big One-Zero.  Ten episodes of the Lost Joystick Network, and what better way to celebrate than to bring on our friend John Young AKA RetroGameEnthusiast on Instagram.  John has been around the collecting scene for a long time and was kind enough to sit down with Jay and Mike to discuss how he got started in collecting and what he's doing today to further his collecting goals.

Thanks for tuning in.. Enjoy!

08 - A New Hope

08 - A New Hope

Episode eight will go down in infamy as the cosmic shift of Lost Joystick Network.  Our good friend Jerry has decided to leave the show (on the best of terms), so we welcome Jay as the new co-host.  This episode does not circle around a single game and is really more of a "Getting to Know Your New Co-Host" discussion.  We talk about Jay's history with gaming and discuss some of his favorites.

So fear not, loyal listener.  We will be back to our standard format with the next episode.  Also, we expect to be much more consistent with our releases going forward.  Thank you for sticking with us!

07 - StarTropics (NES)

WHO IS MIKE JONES?  A question as old as time itself.

After a brief (long) hiatus, Jerry and Mike have made it back with what some consider to be a certified banger: StarTropics on the NES.  Yeah, we know we have been gone for a minute, but we promise this one is worth your time.  I mean.. let's be honest.. what were you going to do instead?  Let's not act like it's our fault that you waste your time.  And, if you DO listen, then you CAN blame us.  It all wraps up into a neat little package.

ANYWAY.. thank you for putting up with us and supporting the show.  Here is where you can find us:
