12. Vulnerability, Trauma and Community
We all know that community is great, transformative and can make THE difference in being non monogamous and polyamorous. But what if you have trauma connected with community? This episode gets personal for me as I share about my own personal trauma in community and things I've been doing and noticing to heal.
Interested in hearing more about community and polyamory? Come to my live, virtual and free event this Saturday August 19th. The Finding Polyam Community event is all about finding, healing and creating polyam communities.
Are you timid about joining communities? Are you unsure of what communities to even look for? When you get involved in communities do you kinda have this 'I don't know what to do with my hands.' type of feeling? Do you want to start a community or host events but have no clue how to start or what to do?
This is the event for you. Our 12 speakers are going to answer all of these questions and more. Plus! You'll be able to ask questions during our 6 Q&As throughout the day!
This event will be fun, interactive and informative.

9. When your past creeps back in, in how you're being
Don't worry. You're in good company. We all do this. Whether it's because we never learned a new way to be, or we've just never been aware that we're doing it.
Every one of us has reverted back to our teenage self or before.
The important thing is not to beat yourself up about it or to think you "should be better." Allow yourself to be ok that you're learning something new. Gain a new awareness and then go apply what you've learned so that you can have even more connected and deep relationships.
.

8. Co-creating relationships and taking away pressure
Sometimes we treat relationships like 'I said I was in a relationship, so therefore I am.' Which isn't wrong... but it's also not necessarily true. Relationships need to be continually fostered and created. Just because you said you were dating several years ago doesn't mean that you can just leave it at that.
Relationships take continual effort and I believe polyamory highlights the necessity of this ongoing evolution in relating.

7. Thought experiments about sex
Have you ever been asked the question - what is sex?
I mean, it's kind of just assumed right? We say 'sex' and we all know what we mean by that.
Have you also ever heard what they say about assuming?
Yeah.
Ok. Enough snarkiness. I've asked A LOT of people what they mean when they say 'sex' and I never really get the same answer. So this thing that we assume that we are all talking about the same thing... we're not. And when we're not talking about the same thing and going off of assumptions, that can lead to breakdowns, upsets and even trauma.
In this episode I give a few thought experiments about how you think about sex and how it can absolutely change your relationships and the pleasure y'all get to have.
***If you are currently working through or have not worked through your sexual trauma, this episode may not be appropriate for you.***

6. The Empty Room Theory in Polyamory
You've probably never heard of the Empty Room Theory because I made it up to help me make sense of life when I was in high school. This is the theory that I have applied to myself and my life to give space for me to learn what I need to learn at my own pace regardless of other people's standards. It applies quite well to polyamory, as you perhaps can already tell.
.
I'd love for this to be collaborative so send me a message with your questions, comments and feedback! I'd love to hear from you!

5. Growing Into Healthy Relationships
Sometimes, we don't know what's possible in relationships because we've never experienced it. But, if we've never experienced it, then how could we know what's possible to even ask for it?
And yet, in order for our relationships to grow and flourish, we know that it's best to continue to strive to be healthier, more communicative and more compassionate.
And as dizzy-ing as all of this is, here are some thoughts and insights on raising the standards of our relationships in a way that can be compassionate for everyone.
.

4. Creating Balance in Your Life and Relationships
Being a polyamorous coach, I often hear people talk about how they want balance or how they've given up on having balance. Adding more love in your life is awesome and it also has real life constraints like time and energy. It has taken me years of trying different things out for myself to be able to create balance in my life, AND that's not to say that balance is a permanent state that I exist in. No. It's something that gets created and has to be maintained. Here are some ways of looking at creating balance in your life that have helped myself personally, as well as my clients.

2. Why should you listen to me?
Hey all! On this episode of the Love & Life Podcast with me, Elizabeth Cunningham, I share about why you should even listen to me (or not!).
I think it's really important to know someone's background, where they come from, and what schools of thought they may be influenced by. This gives a context for listening to someone. However, I don't think this is the end all be all of someone's (or in this case 'my') credentials. There is a difference in experiential v academic knowledge. And, it may depend on the listener, as well. Maybe you are someone who values higher education. Maybe you are someone who values experience. Maybe you think having a healthy dose of both is best.
It is my attention in this episode to share with you the birds-eye view of my experience so that you have a general understanding of where I'm coming from and so you can choose how to listen to me or if you even want to at all!

Season 4, Episode 2. What is a monolith? But really...
What is a monolith?
A large and impersonal political, corporate, or social structure regarded as intractably indivisible and uniform.
Ok, great. But really, what does that mean?
When we overgeneralize about a group or about people it can become so culturally engrained that the assumption becomes inseparable from the individual people.
Our panel of guests talk about what their as-lived experience is in having these over-generalizations put on them throughout their lives. They share about how negative stereotypes have impacted them but even how positive stereotypes have had harmful impacts, as well.
The goal in all of this is that we gain a greater connection as people. When we know what others experience and see each other as humans just like ourselves with fears, dreams, concerns, aspirations and views, we can begin to heal and love one another for our differences and similarities.

Season 4. Episode 1. Stories of Intersectionality as-lived by BIPOC and LGBTQ
Intersectionality is a concept and it is also an as-lived experience for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer). This episode is a discussion between people who live that intersectionality.
The goal in all of this is that we gain a greater connection as people. When we know what others experience and see each other as humans just like ourselves with fears, dreams, concerns, aspirations and views, we can begin to heal and love one another for our differences and similarities.
The concept and definition of intersectionality by Kimberle Crenshaw, "the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage."

Droplet of Love: Balance is not for the faint of heart.
This weeks droplet of love: Balance is not for the faint of heart.
It is not about what's fair or unfair. It's not about being right. It's not about being wrong.
Balance is about being steady, steadfast. It's about being the calm in the storm. You may get rocked. You may have wins, but you keep going and growing regardless of what happens. You don't let arrogance or pain stop your trajectory forward.

Season 4. Episode 0. Who is Jami Smith and what are we talking about this season?
Season 4 is here!
What is Season 4 all about?
This season we will be talking with people who are Black Indigenous, people of color who are also in the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and more) Community.
My goal in this season, along with all of my seasons, is that the people who identify with my guests feel validated, seen, heard and know that they are not alone in their experience of life.
It is also my goal that those people who do not directly identify with my guests can learn how people who are different from them experience the world and that they gain a greater understanding of others and their view points.
My goal in all of this is that we gain a greater connection as people on this planet. When we know what others experience and see each other as humans just like ourselves with fears, dreams, concerns, aspirations and views, we can begin to heal and love one another for our differences and similarities.
As my wonderful co-host says in the episode, "These are important and meaty topics, especially in this day and age as we start thinking about the intersection of racial justice and LGBTQ [...] solidarity and freedoms."
Meet My Co-Host!

"Hopefully, we can model [these conversations] for other folks in your audience. That they can create these environments for themselves and their families, their friends [...] where we can have conversation where we can mess up, we can ask for forgiveness and we can do better. I think that's going to be the legacy of this season." - Jami Smith

Happiness part 4 of 4 with Dr. Justin Blaney
Dr. Justin Blaney joins us again! We continue our conversation about love and happiness! We begin to take the concepts that we have been talking about and answering the question: 'What does that look like in real life?'
This is the beginning of the expansion of Love Dripping from the Walls. Taking the concept of "coming from love" "all you need it love" and "just act from love" into reality. What does it take and what does it look like when we are "acting from love" in our lives? The examples may surprise you.
2020 has been an interesting year, to say the least. From a global pandemic, protests for racial justice and equality, an election year and on and on, it has given us all a lot to think about, discuss and take action on.
Topics Include:
- Saying things that are authentic for you, even if it is uncomfortable, because then you can take actions based off of what is true for people
- The concept of love and feelings and how we express them effectively (or not)
- What questions can you ask yourself to unlock possibilities in your life and relationships?
- Questioning conformity and coming from choice.
Mentioned on the Podcast

- Black man who has conversations with Ku Klux Klan members
- Through these conversations, over 60 people have turned from the KKK

On this Droplet of Love, Elizabeth talks about how to communicate effectively and have workability in your relationships, regardless of your background, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, or point of view. Anyone that we are in relationships with, whether that be polyamorous relationships or monogamous relationships, are going to have their own point of view. This does not have to be a source of tension. This can be an expansion of who we get to be in relationships. "How we treat people around us is indicative of how we see the world."

Let's Talk About Consent with Scott MacDonald
Host, Elizabeth Cunningham, talks with Scott MacDonald, creator of End of the Innocence, about the importance of consent, why it seems to be so logical yet so illusive and what we can do to create a culture of consent. Click the link below to attend his free event, Culture of Consent: How do We Get There?
Scott MacDonald is a former mathematics educator turned software engineer. He started End of the Innocence in November 2017 to bring about cultural change with the goal of eliminating sexual harassment and assault.
End of the Innocence is about having conversations that lead to discovering what consent is to you, how you have interacted with it in the past and what you can do in the future.
Many people think they know a lot more about consent than they really do. They "know", for example, that it's about sex. That's not necessarily true. We can teach children about consent from an early age that they have the right to decide what does and doesn't happen with their body and that others have that right, too.
Then there's consent and long-running sexual relationships; how explicit does consent need to be? Does it suffice in that case for someone to simply not say "no" (assuming they're capable of doing so)? There are a lot of myths about consent and our conversation begins to dispel some of them.

Reflecting on Our Privilege, Part One with Shaun Hamilton
On this episode, host, Elizabeth Cunningham, talk with Shaun Hamilton, Video Editor, Gender Violence Advocate, Artist, Entrepreneur and my former "Sound Guy" reflects on his life as a white man in America and where his privilege has showed up.
Some Topics that We Cover
- How we are taught about cops as white kids growing up vs. how black and brown kids were taught about police.
- Talking about how white girls are taught that if they cry that things will be ok or that it will get them out of things (ex: speeding tickets).
- Concerning Black Lives Matter and the fight for racial equality: We need sustained action. There are a lot of minor victories up front but we need to keep going and keep taking action.
- That everyone, all humans, no matter their color, desire love, happiness and connection. We may have different cultures, skin tones, backgrounds and we should celebrate that. And if we can see each other as fellow human beings and see ourselves in one another, we can come together in that and then celebrate our differences.
- How do you stand as an individual and how do you stand as a business? What's the line between taking a stance as a business and news-jacking?
- How this all ties back into love. If we stand for love, justice, equality then we can't be worried about always "getting it right" we have to keep coming from that place, taking actions, being held accountable if those actions didn't work, and then keep going.

> It comes down to the awkward conversations and the actions that follow.
> What's the difference between white saviorism and sticking up for your friend and using your privilege?

The Mindset of Happiness with Dr. Justin Blaney, Part 2
Continuing our conversation with Dr. Justin Blaney. We cover the biology and evolution that drives our actions. What's the difference between your gut instincts and your subconscious intuition? Accepting how we feel and not running from our emotions which can cause us more harm in the long run. We beat ourselves up in the moment but what can we do instead? How to be ok with sadness and be happy by embracing all of what we are dealing with.
There is a freedom in being yourself and knowing who you are. How to develop a deep well of self-love.
What are the ways in which you express your own self-love now? Taking things and doing them for the fun of it and having it be fun instead of putting pressure on yourself to do something.
Quotes:
"We want to try to follow the happiness." -Justin
"The greatest aspect of Life is that there is no meaning to it and there is no need for it to have a meaning. Human beings are constantly trying to create false purposes. It is a trap. Human Beings like it (assign it meaning) because it gives you a sense of safety, security, protection, individual identity. If you build a cocoon around yourself it gives you safety, but it also imprisons you. Don't look for a purpose. When you find one, you find madness. The purpose of Life is to Live and Live totally." Talking about Race and Privilege with Love and Compassion
Why am I talking about racism and white privilege on a podcast about love? Because love is not just a conversation for the individual. If we have real palpable love in our lives, yet our neighbors are suffering, how deep can our love actually be? A coach of mine once said in response to, why keep learning about personal development, "Great, you've figured out how to get your shit together, now what about every body else?"
If we are concerned with a world where EVERYONE experiences real, deep and palpable love, we must concern ourselves with what we can do to make that possible. As caring, compassionate and loving humans, we must respond to the call to stand alongside our black and brown neighbors to lift their voices and enable them to be heard.

Droplet of Love: Schedule Your Love
Hey Love Nerds! The Droplet of Love is about the importance of scheduling your time for love. It may seem like it's a silly thing to do, like it should just happen organically, like scheduling time takes out the spark or the fun. So untrue. Scheduling time for love can actually make your life and your love be even better!

Creating Love-Centered Businesses with Marisa Etzell
In this episode, I talk with Marisa Etzell the host of Heart to Heart about creating businesses with a mission to spread love in the world.
Heart to heart is a show she created several years ago. It started as an idea for a mentorship program for kids needing heart surgeries in the hospital to a radio show and now to a FaceBook live-streaming show!
I invited Marisa on my podcast to turn the tables around on her and put her in the hot seat and highlight who she is as an entrepreneur, the host of a show, what her mission is in the world.
In this episode you will hear about: two women being real with what it takes to build businesses based off of love, who you have to be for yourself and others and some challenges we face. Why it is so important to consider love, compassion and empathy in business?
We'll also talk about how heart to heart got started and the diagnosis that changed Marisa's life, the difficulties and the growing experiences that come with medical diagnosis and all the spaces that you go through in creating projects and businesses in the world, from vision, to taking action to having it be real and then letting it take shape.

Droplet of Love: Fairness
Hello my darling Love Nerds! Welcome to Droplets of Love!
Listen into the new segment with your host, Elizabeth Cunningham. In this segment Elizabeth delves into the topic of fairness, a different way of looking at fairness.
In this Droplet of Love I examine what "fair" means to the individual versus what is "fair" for everyone involved in a situation. I leave it open-ended to be discovered by you, using an example from your life.
"Not sacrificing, but growing into the human that can have things work instead of staying stuck."

Body Acceptance Part 2 with Cordelia Storm
Body acceptance is a form of self-love. When we love and accept ourselves, we gain the ability to love and accept others.
In part two of my conversation with Cordelia Storm we talk about what is the emotion or feeling that you are choosing, not the emotions that are just happening to you? What is the difference between pretending to feel a certain way and actually generating real emotions and how you want to feel?
We continue to cover, moving from body acceptance to body appreciation, What if we could have the mindset of acceptance and appreciation from the get go?
We turn to the conversation of movement as a human right. How do you balance wanting to achieve a goal and appreciating where you are at right now? How do you not fixate on all of the small things and let go of things you don't have control over? Which then brings us to how your mindset can set your body free.
"When you stop obsessing if it's good enough, you just have space to be wowed." - Cordelia Storm
Closing statements about nutrition.

Body Acceptance Part 1 with Cordelia Storm
Body acceptance is a form of self-love. When we love and accept ourselves, we gain the ability to love and accept others.
In my conversation with Cordelia we chat about Body acceptance vs body love or body positivity, choosing your body for exactly how it is so you can choose how you want to interact with your body
We also talk about dealing with eating disorders. How did her eating disorder start? What was her mindset then vs. her mindset now. Even though she doesn't deal with symptoms now, does she still deal with those thoughts? And ultimately, what did she do to overcome her eating disorder?
We continue our conversation with not identifying yourself a certain way based on your body. When she coaches people in nutrition she really has people look at their goals and identify finding their why.
Other topics we cover are the good, the bad and the ugly of body image conversations on social media. Cordelia's wonderful life lessons using parkour and movement as a tool: #choice #balance What's possible when you consider there isn't a right or wrong way that your body has to be?

Droplet of Love: Toxic Monogamy Culture
Hello fellow Love Nerds! Welcome to Droplets of Love!
Listen into the new segment with your host, Elizabeth Cunningham. In this segment Elizabeth delves into the topic of toxic monogamy culture. What the heck is that? What is monogamy? What is ethical non-monogamy? Let's have a conversation. Like for real though, let's have a conversation where we consider other people's happiness and look at what works for people versus the biases we have about people.
