Obviously, the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy largely shaped our teenage years, so we were unsure how to feel about a new one after the Zack Snyder debacle. Let’s just say a new stripped-down, rich sad boy/emo Batman was just the thing we needed.

HOW TO ROB is a great new Boston crime thriller. Sean Price and Jimmy Winters are a two man stick up crew, robbing criminals from Boston to Cape Cod. Sean wants out of the game but it's not so simple when a couple of killers are hunting them for retribution over a past robbery.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with the writer, director, and producer of this new film; the incredible Peter Horgan. Pete directed an all-time L-Squared favorite “Put Your Feet Up” with friend of the show Josh Koopman. I was so excited to have Pete on and this conversation did not disappoint. CHECK IT OUT!

MONDAY MUSICALS: TICK, TICK…BOOM!

TICK, TICK…BOOM! Is a musical interpretation of Jonathon Larson (creator of RENT!)’s one-man show of the same name. This musical really surprised me, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I ended up loving it. This was interesting because it was so much about Jonathon Larson believing in his heart that he would make it someday and really putting everything he had into this musical, sacrificing his everyday life to get it to a workshop performance… all for it to not be made. The audience knows that he will make RENT! Someday and it will be a smash hit but the main character doesn’t know that and in fact he passes away before he gets to see his biggest hit come alive.

MONDAY MUSICALS: LA LA LAND

LA LA LAND is one of the biggest musicals to come out in the last five years. This is remembered as the movie that won all the Oscars except for Best Picture, which everyone thought it did win for a few brief moments. This is the rare musical that I saw and actually really liked when it came out, I still really like especially for the courage to play out the way it did.

ELF THE MUSICAL is a little deviation from the norm of what these episodes have become. Instead of a big screen adaptation of a big musical theater play, this is a small musical version of a major motion picture. This episode turned into a highlight reel of our glory days back in high school theater.

DEAR EVAN HANSEN is another big screen adaptation of an extremely popular stage musical. This film has been divisive since the first trailer dropped. After its release it became extremely polarizing taking criticism for having Ben Platt try and portray a high school student when looking like a 35-year-old man. This was another rough one to get through.

ANNETTE is one of the more challenging films I’ve seen in a while. It’s about a superstar celebrity tabloid couple (Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard) that have a child (wooden puppet) that is both more talented than either of them and is a haunting reminder of past misdeeds. This was a tough hang, but it has a unique ability to be indescribably enthralling as well as infuriating.

PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES

Tis the season to be thankful. I, for one, am thankful for the host of BackLot605 – Casey Kelderman. Casey joined me today to breakdown the ONLY classic Thanksgiving movie: PLANES, TRAINS and AUTOMOBILES. Casey had never seen it before so I was excited to get his thoughts on this undeniable classic.

Though it made be heresy; we decided to remake this classic and bring it into the modern age. We each came in with picks for who we would cast for the stars and director. IT WAS A BLAST!

This is a special episode. Haley and I rediscovered our deep-seeded love for Jimmy Buffett. ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE was an incredible musical, and maybe one that can only truly be appreciated by fans of the source material. This conversation was a treasure.

NEWSIES is a 1992 Disney musical loosely based on the New York City Newsboy's Strike of 1899. This was a surprisingly well-made movie, very well-choreographed, and I thought the story lent itself to being a musical quite well. Most famously known for starring a young Batman to be: Christian Bale.
