Ep. 22 The Marathon Mind Journey

Ep. 22 The Marathon Mind Journey

Well we made it and we crossed the finish line. It's two weeks out from the biggest achievement for Ashley and Jack. They both sat down to gather their own thoughts on the journey, how it actually felt from the start to the finish line and what they can be proud of to date. The conversation is honest but what it aims to do is motivate you to take on a challenge. We can be caught up on the negatives without really knowing what our body can do.

Ashley speaks about how she battled with her mind at the 30km mark realising there was still another 12km to go, but kicked those thoughts out and paced it well to the finish line. However, she speaks about the battle with anxiety and how running helped take a lot of the worries away.

Jack, is a Type 1 Diabetic and speaks in this episode of the struggle that alone can have on your body before embarking on a 42.2km run. Jack also a month out from the marathon, injured his knee and still soldiered on despite the aching pain it caused. He speaks about how he always wanted to achieve something like this and what it took to get to that point.

Ashley & Jack, are heavily involved in raising awareness for Mental Health, so they are both very privileged to have taken part in an event as fantastic as Marathon Mind. Mental health is important and they want you to know that you can do it, anyone can, make it happen.

Thanks for your support.

Perhaps the greatest part of any personal challenge is the feeling of being alone.

  • I had already suffered what I thought was the biggest trauma of my life – the death by suicide of my darling father – but life had an even bigger test for me.
  • Looking down the barrel of the gun of cancer certainly felt like that for me. Getting to put my money where my mouth was and apply the skills I’d been endorsing was to take my belief in myself to a whole new level. The question was could I do it...”

Ep. 15 Sarah Collopy

Ep. 15 Sarah Collopy

Welcome back to our Podcast Channel today we are joined by Sarah Collopy better known as Sazc_pt on Instagram. We were just blown away by Sarahs passion and knowledge of the mind and creating a healthy mindset. I think this an episode a lot of people can relate to, we put ourselves down for looking a certain way without even knowing we do it. It becomes a habit, a creature of repetition and we need to become kinder to ourselves and the way we look. Our body is ours and if we are not happy with how we look you can change that but learning how to do it without fad diets, detox teas and constantly being hungry is not the answer. There is ways to improve your body by doing it and ensuring you are not damaging your mental health is so important. Sarah speaks to us about how a positive mindset is the best motivator and I hope you all can learn something from this episode. It was a great one to record!

If you would like to follow Sarah you can do so on Instagram @sazc_pt and if you would like to learn more about her 1:1 coaching then visit her website HERE for information.

Ep. 10 Cian Fogarty

Ep. 10 Cian Fogarty

This week we speak to Cian Fogarty a true inspiration. Cian speaks to us about grief and what it's really like to loose both your parents at a young age. I was blown away by Cian and very thankful that he reached out to talk about his own experience of loosing a Mother and a Father, the grief, the strength and the impact it has had on his mental health and life. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, but there are healthy ways to deal with the grieving process as Cian mentions how talking and opening up really helps him.

We speak about types of Grief and how it is a natural response to loss. It’s the emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away. Often, the pain of loss can feel overwhelming. You may experience all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness. The pain of grief can also disrupt your physical health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. Coping with the loss of someone or something you love is one of life’s biggest challenges.

This episode is a reminder to us all how important it is to understand how grief can make people feel and how important it is to be kind to everyone, to understand and value each other and extend your support when needed.

Ep. 9 Jessica Brogan

Ep. 9 Jessica Brogan

Today we talk all things Body Image, Living with an Eating Disorder and Self Love. Jessica speaks openly about what it is like to encounter and  come face to face with Bulimia and Anorexia. She opens up about body image, finding purpose, learning to love herself, and shows us how she’s been able to use the negative experiences in her life to inspire people around the world through her Instagram page Jessica_brogan_

We examine/define the various presentations of eating disorders and address the existing social stigmas and common misconceptions, while also advising on the various kind of services provided by Bodywhys and the Irish health services for patients and families affected by eating disorders. We also consider current research and how the Covid-19 pandemic has fuelled mental health issues particularly affecting people with a vulnerability towards developing eating disorders. We address all of this and more with the hope of raising awareness on disordered eating as an illness and help to better understand those affected by such disorders.

The aim of this podcast is to increase awareness and decrease stigma around eating disorders. We thought it was fitting to release this podcast episode at no better time than when the world has experienced the sad passing of Nicki Grahame (RIP). Nicki was a contestant of Big Brother, but sadly battled anorexia since she was a child. Thing's started to get worse at the beginning of lockdown and sadly it took her life from her.

Ep. 8 Jackie Fox

Ep. 8 Jackie Fox

This week I speak to the incredible women that is Jackie Fox. This was an emotional episode to record but what Jackie shows throughout this episode is how courageous and strong as goes through the worst nightmare anyone can possibly go through.

Jackie's daughter Nicole sadly took her own life in 2018. This was due to years and years of online and face to face torment. Nicole's life was turned upside down, and was deprived of the every day joy's a young person should have growing up. Jackie speaks openly about the physical abuse her daughter faced and the manipulation that came with it.

I was blown away by Jackie's strength to go through the loss of her daughter but then decide one day how can I ensure other's do not have to go through the same thing and this is where COCO's law comes in. We will let Jackie explain what this Law entails and why it is important her daughters legacy lives on.

The whole story is absolutely astounding and serves as a stark reminder that the online world can be a cruel place to be. If you are a parent please be mindful of your children's activity and as an adult move away from negative platforms that do not bring you joy.

This episode is a reminder to us all how important it is to be kind to everyone, to understand and value eachother and extend your support when needed.

Keith Walsh is a presenter, broadcaster, MC, podcaster, drawer, writer, mental health advocate and public speaker. In this episode we speak about living with Mental Health and how Keith has become an advocate for taking care of his own Mental Health. Keith worked with 2FM for seven years, and upon closing his chapter with the Breakfast show he knew that he did not want to feel "just grand" anymore and that is when he decided to go for therapy. In this episode, Keith speaks about his own journey through mental health, and how he find Journalling and Meditating vital in looking after his own mind and over all wellbeing. This conversation is honest and we here at LTSP hope that if you are struggling you can see some light at the end of the tunnel. We hope that if you are going through a difficult stage in your life that this podcast gives you hope and might encourage you to seek help.
