We laughed a lot, we cried a little, and we are SO excited for this weekend's HUGE games for both the Flyers and the Radiance!!

In his second year with Flyers, Ethan Bloodworth is another Carleton CUT alumni who was raised in the Triangle. Known for his impressive athleticism, aggressive defensive pressure and unwavering competitiveness, "E-Blood" and I talk about last year's championship run, the Flyer's regular season highlights and who on the Flyers "isn't trash" (hint - it's a short list.). Charlie McCutcheon is a rookie on the Flyers but is no stranger to professional ultimate. Originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, McCutcheon started playing ultimate during his undergrad at the University of Delaware, before playing with the University of Minnesota Gray Duck during the 2016-17 school year while pursuing his PhD in Chemical Engineering. Before he left Delaware, Charlie won a Major League Ultimate (MLU) Championship in 2016 with the Philadelphia Spinners, and was named the Championship Game MVP in their win over the Portland Stags, the year before the MLU folded. While pursuing his doctorate in Minnesota, he played with the Minnesota Wind Chill (2017, 2018 and 2021) as well as local nationals-contender Minnesota Sub Zero. 

Now based in Virginia, Dr. McCutcheon is a travel player for the Carolina Flyers and looks to bring his intense defensive style to the Carolina D-Line. On the pod we talk about the different systems and communities among all the different areas he's played, how he came to play for the Flyers, what his favorite game with the team has been so far, what it was like to win the MLU Championship Game MVP and much more! Definitely not an interview to miss as the Flyers look to wrap up their 2022 regular season in style!

From college teammates on North Carolina State to now teammates on the Carolina Flyers, 2nd year Flyer Trevor Lynch and Flyers Rookie Dylan Hawkins sit down to talk about all things ultimate. After a breakout season on the D-Line last year, Trevor has been playing more O-Line in 2022, showcasing his immaculate lay-out form and arsenal of throwing skill. Meanwhile, Dylan has played a mix of offense and defense in his first year, exhibiting his chemistry with rookies and veterans alike and what Trevor calls his "Clutch gene". With about 2/3 of the regular season finished, we discuss their background in ultimate, their favorite games from their rookie seasons, who they expect to play in the South Division Playoffs and of course dish out some hot takes for the rest of the season.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!! Today to talk all things Championship Weekend we have on Jenny Wei of the Raleigh Radiance. J-Wei is originally from China, before moving to the states at a young age. Shockingly, Jenny started playing ultimate her first year of college at the University of Chapel Hill, who she played for for five years including leading them to college nationals in her 5th year. She has played for the Raleigh Radiance in every season of its existence.

This week on the pod we talk to an import to the Triangle Area - Seth Weaver. Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, after graduating from Goshen University, Seth moved to the Triangle to attend Duke University to pursue PhD in Genetics and Genomics. Although he didn't play college ultimate at Goshen, Seth was a 4-TIME High State Ultimate State Champion, before playing for the Chicago Wildfire (now the Union) in 2019 and the Chicago Club powerhouse Machine in their run to the 2019 club nationals championship game. Since moving to the area, Seth has played for both the Carolina Flyers and Raleigh Ring of Fire in 2021 where both teams won respective championships. On the field, he's a handler defender who's job is to make sure the other teams handlers "have NO fun".

Elijah Long started playing ultimate at Chapel Hill High School, before playing for the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Darkside from 2015-2021, including winning college championship with the program in 2017 and 2021. An incredibly creative thrower who played a mix of D-Line and O-Line in his rookie season with the Carolina Flyers in 2021, Elijah and I talk about his love of pancakes, his breakdown of the no-look scoober he threw in the AUDL Championship Weekend, his analysis of the new crop of Flyers for 2022, and much more.

While historically the Radiance have always been a collection of local talent, this off-season we signed one of the best players in the country! 

Sarah Meckstroth was born, raised and currently works in Minnesota. After graduating from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in 2012, Sarah has played with the Elite Club Mixed team Minnesota Drag-N-Thrust every summer since, including winning back-to-back-to-back USAU Club Championships in 2013, 2014 AND 2015. On the national stage, Meckstroth has either been invited or selected for Team USA at the Under-23 Championships in 2013 & 2015, at the World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC) in 2016 and 2020 and for the World Beach Ultimate Championships (WBUC) in 2017 and 2022. After two rounds of tryouts early this spring which narrowed the top 100 ultimate players in the country down to 32 players in the second round, as of LAST WEEK, Sarah was named to one of the 14 spots to play for the USA National Team at the 2022 World Games team, putting her in the the top 7 women-matching players IN THE COUNTRY.

Professionally, Meckstroth was rostered with the Minnesota Strike in 2020, played with the DC Shadow in 2021 and now for our Raleigh Radiance for the 2022 season! When she is not destroying everyone downfield with her deep cuts, Sarah loves spending time with her dog, hiking, coaching and traveling internationally. We talk about her growth through the Minnesota scene, how she decided to play with the Radiance and everything she's looking forward to with the season!

In our first solo player interview of Season 2, we're talking to Heather Zimmerman, long-time Triangle ultimate stand-out. "Zimmy" played with UNC Pleiades from 2006-2010, before playing with Women's club team Raleigh Pheonix from 2010-2016. After a year break playing disc golf, she returned to the club scene with Durham Toro, our nationally ranked mixed team, from 2018 to present. On the pro scene, Heather first joined the Radiance last season for the PUL East Championship. This will be her first full year with the team. When she's not playing ultimate, she is a fully licensed dentist and enjoys hanging out with her cats, Calvin and Hobbes. 

The Radiance's first home game of the 2022 season is THIS SATURDAY, April 9th at 6:00pm at Herndon Park - we'd love to see everyone at the game!! We'll have another Radiance interview dropping later this week to help build hype for that game!

THE RALEIGH FLYERS ARE AUDL CHAMPIONS!!

From an 0-2 Start to the season, to tight losses to the top teams in the Atlantic Division down the stretch, to a near loss in the semifinal to a fantastic Chicago Union team, let alone a fearsome battle with their rival the New York Empire - The Raleigh Flyers overcame it all to win their first AUDL title in franchise history.

THE FLYERS ARE BACK AT CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND!!

After beating the DC Breeze 19-16 this past Saturday, the Flyers are returning to AUDL Championship weekend for the first time since their inaugural season in 2015. As a Flyer since day 1 of the team's existence, Flyers all-time leading block-getter David Richardson and I sit down to talk through the dramatic game in DC from last weekend, discuss thoughts and predictions for this coming weekend, and much more.

Make sure to watch on AUDL.tv! The Flyers play the Chicago Union at 7pm on Friday night (September 10th, 2021), and then hopefully in the Championship game on Saturday night, also at 7pm. 

After an 8-4 season and a 4th place finish in the Atlantic, it's time for the play-offs! With a rematch against the DC Breeze this weekend and a ticket to AUDL Championship weekend on the line, we interview rookie Flyer Anders Juengst to hype us up for the game. An absolutely sensation in his first season, Anders has been racking up goals and assists with his incredible speed and precise control with the disk. Mr. Juengst, originally from Arlington, Virginia (playing high school with Johnny Malks, current DC Breeze superstar) went to UNC, playing with their college mens team Darkside from 2016 to 2021. Anders also played for Raleigh Ring of Fire in 2019, and plans to return this fall after the AUDL season is finished.

In celebration of the Raleigh Radiance WINNING the PUL Championship Series East Tournament, we talk to Captain Lyla Stanland all about the weekend. Lyla started playing at UNC-Wilmington in 2013, then beginning her club career with Sir Walter Rowdy (local mixed team) in 2016 before joining Raleigh Phoenix in 2017. Lyla has been on Phoenix since then, joined the Radiance for their premier full season in 2019, and was named a captain for the 2021 season. We breakdown the Radiance's disastrous start to the weekend against the DC Shadow, the overtime comeback against the New York Gridlock, and finally the revenge win against DC in the final.

As we look to cheer on the Raleigh Radiance this weekend at the PUL Championship Series, today is a double interview with two players on the Radiance! Beans (Amanda), Soo and I talk about moments they're looking forward to, players to watch on the Radiance, score predictions for the East Tournament and ideas for the league as a whole. Ashley Powell has played for the Raleigh Radiance since the team's inception, including the 2018 Exhibition season, the 2019 PUL season and of course this year's squad. Before playing pro, Ashley started playing in high school at Chapel Hill High, as well as competing in Youth Club Championships with the Triangle Warhawks. In College, Ashley played NC State Jaga, including leading them to college nationals in 2018. On the club scene, Ashley has also played for Raleigh Phoenix, and made the U24 USA Mixed National Team in 2018. We talk about the upcoming PUL East tournament, her evolution as a player and other teams around the PUL.

In another special double interview to prepare for this weekend's Saturday match-up, we talk to long-time North Carolina native Jack Williams (now of the New York Empire) and our own Grayson Sanner, both graduates of UNC-Wilmington. We talk about players to watch out for in the game, hot takes for the season, college memories, attempt to make a few player trades (this got SPICY), and ultimately predict the score of the game. Matt Gouchoe-Hanas (pronounced Goo-show - Han(d)iss) started playing in high school at Carolina Friends School (notably with Sol and Henry, although after them). Matt played YCC with Triforce for two seasons, winning YCC in 2014 and were runners up in 2015. For college, Matt went to UNC Chapel Hill (2015-19), and played for their mens team "Darkside" all 5 years, captaining the last three. During his time at UNC they won the college national championships in 2015 and 2018. Due to his play at UNC, Matt was named Ultiworld College player of the year in 2018, and won the Callahan award in 2019. Internationally, Matt played for the Team USA U-24 mixed team in winter of 2018, and the summer of 2019, winning gold at both of those events. Within Club Ultimate, Matt made Ring of Fire in 2016, and has played every year since then, including as a a captain of Ring during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Having now graduated college, we are excited to welcome Matt on his first year with the Raleigh Flyers!

Our first interview with a player from the Raleigh Radiance! Jessi played her college career for North Carolina State University from 2008-2012. Jessi was one of the original members of Raleigh Phoenix, our local elite club women's teams. On the professional side, Jessi was the first female player to be rostered on an AUDL team (for the Flyers in 2015), as well as being a founding member of the Raleigh Radiance for it's entire existence (2018-Present). Jessi and I talk about her incredible ultimate career so far, her excitement for the Radiance going into the upcoming PUL Championship series, and, of course, our dogs.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Noah started playing in the Mercer County Ultimate Disc League before going to Pennsbury High School. After high school, Noah played with the University of North Carolina Darkside from 2008-2011, was a part of the inaugural NexGen Tour in 2011, and has played for Ring of Fire from 2010 to the present. On the Professional side, Noah played with the New York Empire in 2014 and of course with the Raleigh Flyers from their inaugural season in 2015 to the Present, including as a captain for the past few seasons. We talk about his huge array of experiences with ultimate, what he most wants from the team this year, and much more. 

Josh Hartzog first played competitively in college at Elon University in 2007. Josh has been part of the Flyers roster since the inaugural season in 2015 and has played every year since, including being a captain in 2019 as well as the current 2021 roster. Along with playing, Josh has coached High School Open and Girls for nine years, as well as U-16 Boys YCC for 4 years. We talk about the upcoming season, his love for woodworking, and advertising the Mike DeNardis/Evan Leplar spectacle.

In a new format, we do a double interview, having both Jakeem Polk, currently of the Atlanta Hustle, and Justin Allen of the Raleigh Flyers on to breakdown our Week 1 match-up in Atlanta, compare players and just maybe talk a little trash.

Jakeem Polk has played for the Charlotte Express, the Jacksonville (now Tampa Bay) Cannons, the Raleigh Flyers (for the 2018 and 2019 Seasons) and now the Atlanta Hustle. Known as a deep threat, "Jak" has spent the last several years developing explosive throws to go with his elite athleticism. 

Justin Allen has played for the Raleigh Flyers since the team's inception, as well as the New York Empire in 2014. Most known for his gigantic flick pulls, Justin has played major roles on both the O and D-Lines over the Flyers history.

Mike DeNardis has been a part-owner and head coach of the Raleigh Flyers since the team's inception in 2015. We discuss how he came to Ultimate Frisbee, his coaching career, along with his expectations and hopes for the upcoming season - particularly his thoughts on the season schedule (Starting at 6:19). 

Ahead of the interview, I walk through the 2021 Flyers Game Schedule (1:26) as well as share some notes about the schedule's quirks (4:13) as we face-off against a slew of teams the Flyers have never played before. 

The last of the "Carleton Crew", Eric Taylor grew up in the Columbus, Ohio area, before attending Carleton College, winning a College Championship with the team in 2017. A hub handler for the Flyers in his rookie year (2019), we talk about Eric's unreal eating habits, why he owns a set of swords, his mindset when he's going to get a lot of touches, goals for the team in his second season, and much more.

Sol Yanuck started playing competitive ultimate in 8th grade at Carolina Friends School. He played for CFS and Triforce through high school before going to school at Carleton College, where he won a college championship alongside Henry Fisher and Eric Taylor in 2017. Sol played his first summer with Raleigh Ring of Fire in 2016 after his sophomore year of college as well as played internationally for the U20 and U24 men’s teams. This will be Sol's second full season of play in the AUDL with the Flyers. 

Henry Fisher is on his 2nd season with the Flyers, making the All-AUDL Rookie team his first season in 2019. One of the "Carleton Crew" who joined the Flyers in 2019, we talk about Henry's experiences in high school, college, at the AUDL All-Star Game and much more!
