It's always interesting for me to be on the side of the interviewee and I have had a marvellous time exploring what it means to pen this huge novel that spans three decades and is set in four different countries; matched with unlikely memorable characters.
I talk about the genesis of The World Is Ours; we delve into character development, setting, scenes, the motives, high points and low points of the book. Doreen Baingana is a short story writer and editor who has written popular books and stories like Tropical Fish that won the 2006 commonwealth writer's Prize , she has also worked on short stories and children's books. Some awards Doreen boasts of are the Washington Independent Writers Fiction Prize, and the Caine Prize for African Writing, which she came up as a finalist, twice. She has received fellowships and scholarships to the Bread Loaf Writers Conference and the Key West Writers Seminar, and an Artist's Grant from the District of Columbia.
