I got a chance to speak with Mark Thompson and Ryan Bozeman of Picnic Project- a nonprofit started because of the simple belief that there is enough for everyone if we all share. because no one has to be hungry or lonely.
I got to speak with Mark and Ryan about why they started and how they started giving out food to the food insecure at the park and moved to become a nonprofit and partner with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide food to the folks in Sanford, FL, and Seminole County for over 14 years.
We spoke about their Taste and Sip charity event what they love most about doing the Picnic Project and the hardest part.

The Citrine Ghost - Shannon Crosby brought her love of plants and created a Better Goth & Gardens brand and co-created a curated market as well.
I got the chance to speak with Shannon Crosby the owner of The Citrine Ghost. a spooky dark and moody plants, goods, and home decor brand from Plant City, Florida. She is also co-creator of the Mossy Hollow Market - a whimsical market featuring artists and vendors as you meander through the interactive woodland experience, complete with a potions bar, magical decor, photo ops, wishing cauldron, wandering characters, and festive music.

I chatted with Ashlee about how and why she decided to work with leather and create leather goods. How it was living and driving around in her 2011 Ford Transit while selling across 5 states. We also spoke about her love for coffee and reading. We also discussed how Ashlee handles having dysautonomia along with going to school, working, and creating leather goods.

We all have Toxic baggage. Physical, emotional, environmental, or traumatic these Toxic Roots shape who we are. Our goal is to highlight these issues through art, humor, and a dash of sarcasm.
I spoke to Steve about what made him want to start the brand based on living on Florida's little beachside dump. We spoke about the moment he realized he had a brand there. We spoke about the themes of his brand. We also spoke about how people have taken on the Life is Toxic and what has been the best and hardest parts about running a brand.

Sanguich de Miami - Daniel and Rosa Figueredo gave up lucrative jobs to make Cuban Sandwiches. Michelin Bib recognized- everything made in house gourmet Cuban sandwiches & milkshakes in Miami.
I got to spend a lunch break with my Daniel and Rosa Figueredo, the owners of Sanguich de Miami - a Cuban Sandwich Shop in Little Havana specializing in gourmet Cuban sandwiches & milkshakes. Serving up authentic, handcrafted Cuban sanguiches! They are also 2022-2023- Michelin Bib Gourmand recipients.
I spoke to Daniel and Rosa about how they started Sanguich and how they went from doing pan con lechon sandwiches at an music festival to owning a location in Little Havana and quitting their very lucrative corporate jobs to make sandwiches.
We spoke about they brine the ham for days, marinate lechon for 24 hours; make the mustard, pickles in house and also their own bread recipe used that they then brush the bread with lard that they render down, before pressing them all together to a crisp.
I spoke to them how Rosa and Daniel balance each other and how they have grown the business and spent over a year researching their recipes and sacrifices made to make Sanguich happen.
We also spoke to Daniel about how they have grown the bedrock of the business and now they are going and growing. We also talk about the importance of Community over Competition.
I loved chatting with them and listening to their inspiring story. Not to mention their food is so good- heck people can order it on GoldBelly.

I got to spend a lunch break with my friend Mauro Balcazar, the owner of Coffin Couture - Coffin Couture is brand inspired by his love of monsters and mid century fashion- its a mix of pop culture pins, figures, and prints. Mauro is a designer, traveler, a Galaxy defender from earth inspired by his love of pop culture in so many mediums.
I spoke to Mauro on where is his love of Monsters and Pop culture came from. As well as about some of the fun solo projects he is working on like his TMNT 1990 coffee book -Cowabunga and his Fang Coffin Blue Tooth Speaker he created.
We spoke about his pop culture romance enamel pin collection, as well as, the tarot cards sets he is working on. Mauro shared about how he got into doing conventions and shows across the country.

I got to spend a lunch break with my friend Kerry Gretchen Love, a poet, novelist, teacher, and wanderer. She was the little girl who used to write stories for fun and read books under her covers with a flashlight, long after bedtime.
Besides writing 3 books (2 poetry, and 1 novel). She does graphic art, as well as, mixed media art, and is a tarot card reader.
I spoke to Kerry about what led her to put out her poetry and how difficult it must be to put out things that are personal to her. We also spoke about how she and her best friend, Jill Houston, wrote
I loved how Kerry and Jill made up their own genre for their novel By Chance- calling it Eroticom (Erotic Romcom).
Was great reconnecting with Kerry and listening to her talk about the doubt, fear, and anxiety we feel when trying to do something and put ourselves out there. I also enjoy how she reminds her students and us on social to Admire the view on our journey.

I got to spend a lunch break with Ashley Hallenbeck, the Creative Director and Event Planner behind Orlando's most popular market- Milk Mart- The event features over 200 local makers, businesses, artists, pop-ups, and food trucks, a showcase of Orlando's flourishing creative community.
Ashley and I spoke about how she got started doing Milk Mart, as well as, how she started selling her art while in college and doing markets.
We spoke about the evolution of the Milk Mart Markets and how it has grown in size and done quarterly, 4 times a year. I asked how the selection process goes as well as vendor placement.
We spoke about the positives and difficulties of pulling off a successful market and what are some things that she looks for in vendors and tips on helping sell at any market.

I got to spend a lunch break with Daniel Koenigkann, the owner of Living Vitalitea Kombucha- a raw and organic Kombucha brewery in Orlando, FL. Focused on functional, botanical-infused, and medicinal ingredients!
Daniel and I spoke about how he got involved with kombucha and what led him to quit his mechanical engineering job to focus on producing kombucha. We discussed the difficulties of starting something in 2013 when many had no idea what kombucha was.
Daniel shared how he built his brand and how he transitioned from starting as a hobby to doing larger quantities to now having his brewery and staff produce his Kombucha.
Was a great conversation and I also got to learn more about the benefits of just 4oz of Kombucha can do to your body if enjoyed regularly. Daniel has a great product and I've become a fan of Living Vitalitea.

Canyon Couture- Sara Bartlett took her love of reworking and curating recycled or repurposed clothes into her own brand all inside her converted school bus.
I got to spend a lunch break with Sara Bartlett, the owner and operator of Canyon Couture - an environmentally sustainable and ethically sourced business that focuses on the curation of recycled or repurposed clothes and home decor. They operate out of a converted school bus (a mobile fashion boutique) and give 10% of sales to different local non-profits.
Sara discussed how she came up with the idea to buy a school bus and convert it into a fashion mobile boutique, as well as, how she decides what items she looks for to repurpose and refashion.
Sara also shared with me that 80% of the items at Goodwill end up in landfills, as well as how her tie dress idea she had went viral.

I got to spend a lunch break with Glen Turchin, Owner and Roaster at Otus Coffee a family-run coffee roasting business that started from their garage. Glen is providing approachability in Specialty Coffee. Glen and I spoke about his love for coffee and how he got into it. We spoke about him starting to roast coffee with a popcorn popper in his kitchen. How he was so into it he bought a commercial coffee roaster in his garage and got into roasting coffee full-time. O-Town Compost- Charlie Pioli saw an issue with local waste management and created a community composting model here in Orlando to help give others a sustainable option to recycling organic waste.
I got to spend a lunch break with Charlie Pioli, who comes from a career in solid waste & recycling consulting and has witnessed the egregious waste being generated and poorly managed around the country firsthand. Spurred to action, he started O-Town Compost- Orlando’s community composter to give his neighbors a sustainable option to recycle their food scraps.
Charlie and I spoke about how he started O-Town Compost- and the issues Central Florida has with our current landfill. Dark Cycle Clothing- Adam and Coryn Enfinger started a clothing brand based on quirky animals on bikes - 13 yrs later they are printing, packing and shipping their shirts to every corner of the world.
I got to spend a lunch break with Adam and Coryn Enfinger, owners of Dark Cycle Clothing, a clothing brand based out of Tampa, FL inspired by Adam thinking up quirky animals on bike designs while making his 17-mile bike ride to work. Eventually, he screenprinted the designs on some extra t-shirts and they generated quite a bit of interest every time they were worn. Now with over 100k happy customers and with their shirts in over 100 small shops worldwide, each shirt is still hand screen printed with care by Adam. Dark Cycle Clothing's mission is to provide ethical and quality clothing while promoting alternative transportation and raising animal awareness.
I spoke to Adam and Coryn about how they came up with the name and the concept. Coryn told me about they started with an Etsy shop and how it blew up and then they did a .com shop. We spoke about how they handle inventory when doing Wholesale, Events, Etsy, and DarkCycleClothing.com. Adam spoke about how they hand-print each shirt. We spoke about how they balance their business and also caring for their 8 children. We spoke about what it takes to be a successful clothing brand, as well as, discussed how many different animals they have created on bikes. Was great to also hear about how they discussed some of their previous designs coming back.

I got to spend a lunch break with Brian and Cindy Johnson, are the owners of Tao Te Cheese (pronounced Dow De Cheese) and they are sharing the love of creative grilled cheese sandwiches with Central Floridians.
I spoke to them how they got the name for the their food truck/trailer, as well as, why grilled cheese sandwiches. We discussed some of the misconceptions of owning a food truck along with the rewards of it. We spoke about what made them decide to quit corporate life and jump into the cheesy life of a running a small business these past 6 years. We spoke about their Why, along with what else they do besides selling grilled cheese.

I spoke to Ha about how Fur Face Boy came about and why he started it back in 2009. We spoke about how he came up with the name. We spoke about the journey the brand and he has made these past 14 years and the different versions of the brand. We spoke about the difference between when he started (MySpace and the beginning of the Twitter era and social) to bring the brand back now. I spoke to Ian about how they started, how they built their business from a pop-up tent to a food trailer to opening up 2 locations (UCF and the Milk District). I got to spend a lunch break with Jordan Fuchs, owner of Plastic Pizza- an artistically thinking brand of designer toys, apparel, and art with a focus on creativity and imagination striving to bring the unordinary and different to life one pizza slice design at a time. With a mission is to feed the world peace and art, while being a lightning rod for creativity and community.
I spoke to Jordan about how came about with the idea of creating Plastic Pizza. We discussed how he collaborates with various artists and how they melt their concepts, and we talked about the power of storytelling and creating a universe. We spoke about how Johnny Cupcakes have influenced us and how he has collaborated with them. We talk about his mascot Peace of Pizza and their recipe for success. Jordan discusses his work on creating fun experiences and doing online Pop Shop Live and Ntwrk events as well as collaborating with pizza shops and conferences and doing live in-person events. I spoke to Alyssa about how the idea of how came about to open an Eco-sustaintable-refillery shop in Orlando. What does it mean to be sustainable-ish? We discussed how she came up with the name and also the location. We discussed the difficulties of being first in the market and also first time running a business. This locally loved and nationally recognized counter service is offering DANG delicious sandwiches, burgers, salads, and everything in between.
I spoke to Lexi about how she and her husband Rhys helped start Swine and Sons and how they later took over ownership. We discussed how they pivoted and moved locations from their original spot to into the Local Butcher to now within Foxtail and the Courtesy-you could call it the Swine House. We spoke about how they balance it as well as the best and hardest parts of running a restaurant. I asked Lexi about sandwich-making tips. We spoke about their opportunity to be on Guy's Grocery Games and the evening they were awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand.
