03. Female Genital Mutilation: physical, psychological and psychosocial effects.

03. Female Genital Mutilation: physical, psychological and psychosocial effects.

This is the first part of my series of podcasts on Female Genital Mutilation,

I have interviewed Jean Anderson, Founder of the charity 'ONE WOMAN AT A TIME' and Dr Mariam Dahir, who is a Medical Doctor and Public Health Specialist in Somaliland, who is also a survivor of FGM.

My guests have been working hard to promote awareness of the dangers and risks that come with FGM. They are helping to educate the current generation, to help reduce FGM in the next generation.

Jean Anderson's charity 'ONE WOMAN AT A TIME' gives refuge to girls who have been courageous enough to say "no" to their cultural norms and demand their right over their bodies. Dr Dahir is chairing the national movement 'Youth Anti-FGM Somaliland' which is engaging the youth of Somaliland, to change their attitude and behaviour towards FGM and help their voices be heard in their communities, with the goal to end FGM in the next generation.

The episode is a conversation with these brilliant women, who will help us understand what FGM is, the different types of FGM and the life-long physical, psychological and psychosocial effects of this procedure, which takes place in the early years of a girl's life.

02. Israel-Palestine- Annexation, Future and Human Rights Violations

02. Israel-Palestine- Annexation, Future and Human Rights Violations

This episode is the second part of the Israel-Palestine podcast series.

In the previous podcast, I spoke to Dr Leila Farsakh and Dr Moriel Ram to explore the background and history of the controversial Israel-Palestine conflict. Dr Ram is from an Israeli background and currently works at SOAS University London, where he is a research associate in Israel studies. He has also been featured on the University of Oxford podcasts, where he has outlined the political culture of Israel. Dr Farsakh is from a Palestinian background, and has authored the book, 'Palestinian Labour Migration to Israel.' She has also won the Peace and Justice Award, from the Cambridge Peace Commission.

In this episode, we outline the current plans of Israel to annexe parts of the West Bank, as well as the relationship between Israel and Palestine with the international community. We also explore the human rights violation that is the result of the Israel-Palestine conflict in regions such as Gaza and Hebron.
