012: Balancing passion and making a living as a Content Creator
Recently on Clubhouse, I met a content creator from Trinidad, and when I asked him what he was up to, he said, "I'm trying to make a living while being passionate about my work". His words left an impression on me. Because although content creation is a side hustle for me. there are things I'd love to accomplish, things that cost money like sending Farmer Harry to Antigua. Farmer Harry is a farmer who lives off-grid in Trinidad, and he has his own YouTube channel. And sometimes, to make money, it feels like, we have to move away from the things we're passionate about, like writing, singing, and painting. Today we're talking about ways to boost passion and make a living as a content creator.

007: The road to 150,000 TikTok followers with The Trini Alphabet Guy
Today we're talking to Stephon Felmine, a content creator from Trinidad. He's an Economics teacher at Morvant Secondary school and his Facebook page describes him as the TikTok Trini Alphabet Guy. On the Β 11th of April 2020, he posted his first Tik Tok video and since then he's amassed almost 150,000 followers and 2.8 million likes, which is truly extraordinary.
I admire his daily grind and ability to connect with brands. He's showing up on social media every day, sometimes twice a day, producing content as different characters, and ads, showing up for events, and inspiring his students. I know it isn't easy but he makes it look easy. Today I'm talking with his team about what happens behind the scenes, from idea generation to filming, editing, and creating relatable skits and characters.

004: The Business of YouTube in Trinidad
My talk with YouTuber "Kaleel Studio" continues into the world of YouTube, identifying products, burnout and problems YouTubers from Trinidad and the Caribbean potentially face in 2023. To recap, Kaleel has served as a visual arts teacher in primary and secondary schools. His ambition is to bring the Caribbean art scene to viewers and build a stronger community of artists and craftspersons. At the time of this recording on Friday 25 November 2022, Kaleel's YouTube channel has 128 subscribers and close to 2,500 views, so apart from learning about his work as an artist I'm excited to hear about his YouTube strategy to hit his first major milestone which is 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. In the show notes, I've included the links to his YouTube channel and Instagram page so if you're into art and want to support his work feel free to head on over and click the subscribe button. 001: Self-publishing in Trinidad: The Ghost of Caura
We're talking to Lance Baptiste, a writer and content creator from Trinidad and Tobago about his book, The Ghost of Caura. The Ghost of Caura is historical fiction and tells the story of how, in 1945, the colonial government in Trinidad and Tobago dynamited a church in Caura and displaced an entire village to build a dam. 75 years later, a son discovers the journals of his father who lived in the village. In 2021, the son, sitting at a window, writes: Sitting at a window that looks out on the church in Lopinot, I'm beginning to understand how much I did not appreciate my father. Most people begin to truly appreciate their parents when it's too late. I imagine this is the reason I've spent months deciphering his handwriting and trying to reproduce his story as faithfully as possible. Trinidad and Tobago, I feel, deserves the truth, about men like Eusebio, Mr Roberts, my own father and grandfather-Raymond and Popo-and the British's role in destroying a prosperous village.
