You know how I always ask every guest on the show “How do you Make Music income?” Well, in today’s podcast I tell you how I made income last year. In many ways. 2023 was an affirming year and also a directional year for my music. Not to spoil the show, but I probably ended up making about as much in 2023 as I did in 2022. With basically the same jobs: My Own Music Composing, My Music Clients, Teaching online and at a local recording school here in Orlando. But there were some subtle changes and major milestones that entered the picture, some not discouraging news about non-exclusive and stock incomes, and a very interesting income generating development in my teaching career. I heard from people who did worse than I did in some things, and people who made unbelievably more than I did in some things. What IS the Future of Music Income? Today as part of celebrating the start of Make Music Income two years ago this week, we will redefine one of the core elements of this channel. In fact, in my anniversary video I just released this week “8 Ways to Make Music Income,” I kind of alluded to this in that video. We’ve been using a term that Steve and I have been debating what to call it for literally years. When I started this channel, “stock music” was a hot topic. In fact, I owe much of the success to my friends and YouTubers like Daniel Carrizalez and of course Mr. Steve B. Whose channels talked quite a bit about this non-exclusive cousin to exclusive sync licensing/production music for film and TV. Well, I’ve decided it’s time for a name change for the infamous “stock music” which is not a bad term or name for what it is. But the type of music we refer to as stock music can be used for so many things including Spotify and DSPs, Beat sales, Gaming music, incomes from other things like overhead music and other non-exclusive uses, it’s time we just rename it. I thought it would be good to use a tired old metaphor to talk about music income and maybe respond to a video this week from our friend Jesse at Sync My Music.

In his newest video, Jesse talks about how important it is that you have focus on the thing you are trying to do, for him that is sync obviously. And you should watch the video because as usual, he is right for the most part as he usually is. 

But he definitely has success he has built over dozens of years in the sync business. His royalty payments and let’s not forget his YouTube channel and all his sync teaching income are certainly good incomes for him.

But today we want to talk to those of you (who are probably ALL of you) who can’t afford to put all your eggs in one basket, just “HOPPING” that it works. This video is for everyBUNNY.
