“I’m back today with clips from The TUC” It’s Wednesday, June 30th, 2021. I’m MK and this is the Mankind podcast a Takeover AZ Media program on theMankindShow.com and WithUsOrAgainst.US Thank you so much for listening, I can’t do this without you and I am so grateful for all the support, sincerely, thank you. I’ve been trying out different mic setups and eq settings so if things sound a bit different sometimes, that’s why, and we apologize for the mess while we make improvements and appreciate your patience as we sort things out. It’s Wednesday so I talk about “The TUC” and for those that haven’t seen it, I thought I’d play the trailer and intro audio this week and tell you a lil more about what going on with that project. Let’s start with the music. The theme was composed by the prodigal Tucson sun, and international super producer, Manny Megz and acquired in cooperation as a part of the STEEZGOD Stimulus. Check it out. For the visuals, I filmed them in two parts, one at a Cash & Marley show in 2020 and I used these guys because they really embody the quintessential essence of talented musicians and they’re both together and individually not only pillars but beacons of the Tucson hip hop community. Huge shoutout to Cash and Marley. The second part I filmed at the Takeover Lounge 1 year anniversary show as it was a perfect example of the enthusiasm that this scene brings to the city. I wanted to keep it simple while still being impactful. Episodes are still in the works because I’m trying to figure out what the ideal format is, and I’ve never done this level of video editing before so to say I’m overwhelmed would be accurate but I’m honestly loving every second of it. Something that I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned is this project is completely filmed on iPhone, maybe I should make a bigger deal about that… Anyway since I realize most people who only listen to me here may not have seen or heard the trailers so here’s part 1 featuring S. Beezy. (S. Beezy trailer) I had Beezy come to the spot for the interview and most of the footage I got of her comes from this year’s Bar w/Friends stay tuned because I’m gonna get it together and start dropping the full interviews trademark soon. I’m still adding b-roll and performance audio but these are very close to the final cut. And the next clip is my guy, I mention him all the time, our city’s finest Mr. Jay Bailey. (Jay Bailey trailer) I actually went to his studio for that one and trust me the full interview is dope and coming trademark soon. And that’s all that’s it, I gots nothing else for you filthy animals, so let's get outta here. Big thank you to Manny Megz, Cash and Marley, S. Beezy, Jay Bailey, Labratz and, everyone making the Tucson hip hop scene the amazing place it is right now. I’m gonna come back with a podcast clip for the roundup so hit me up if you want to get your favorite show in there. Thank you so much for listening, my name is MK and this has been another amazing episode of the Mankind Podcast, I’ll see you tomorrow. Peace.

“Took a quick break to get some things done but stay tuned because your gonna love this one!” It’s Tuesday, June 29th, 2021 I’m MK and you’re listening to the Mankind Podcast a Takeover AZ media program on theMankindShow.com and WithUsOrAgainst.Us What is good. Thank you so much for tapping in! Every now and then I wanna encourage you to take a step back and take some days off and chill the F out man. So whenever I’m not daily down your throat podcasting, I’m prolly taking some time to recharge the batteries, because at the end of the day… “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” It’s amazing to see Tucson hip hop flourishing even during the hottest parts of the summer the clubs going up all weekend every weekend and it’s just a matter of time before we’re back on a Tuesday. But it’s really cool to see especially places like Club 4th getting back into the action, they’ve been around a long time, so now that Truly is doing Select Saturdays and, the Who’s Hotta open mic competition is moving over there on July 3rd, it looks like local hip hop is resurfacing on south Fourth and I like it. Also next Saturday there’s a dope hip hop show coming to Thunder Canyon, Def-i, Sage Cornelius, Trahma, WOARWeapon I believe it’s being thrown by my man Uncle B-joe Steel and it’s gonna be some rappin rappin goin on but also my guy and yours Dj Smash Lames is on the wheels for this one so do not miss out it’s gonna be live on July 3rd at Thunder Canyon. This past weekend was one giant leap for Tucson podcasters because while ZandD were in Phoenix recording the Takeover Lounge at IKON radio with an incredible guest that I’ll leak later in the show but while they were doing that I teamed up with Beezy and we recorded Pod w/Friends and it went absolutely fantastic. We had Heelface podcast with us and we were joined by Dakotah Faye, Ago, and Trahma. It was honestly an awesome experience, and here’s a sneak peek. (Pod w/Friends clip) I’m still debating where Pod w/friends is gonna drop but stay tuned because the full episode will be available this week. Also this week the Takeover Lounge we’re releasing our interview with the legendary AZ Big Bossman DJ John Blaze he runs iKON radio, he’s a part of the Arizona Hip Hop Festival, Respect The Underground and so much more, check out this clip. Thank you to DJ John Blaze and iKON radio, S. Beezy, Amazen, BabyFace Stu, I’m just Zeus, Z, and Daniella who I’m calling ZandD and my man Shiki, the Takeover team is definitely on one and I can’t wait to tell you more about that. Thank you my dear listeners for your support, I can’t do this without you. This has been another episode of the Mankind Podcast, I’m MK and I’ll see you, next time.🏽

“We’re talking about the TUC and today we got my man Jay Bailey on the show” It’s Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021 My name is MK and you are listening to the Mankind Podcast a Takeover AZ Media program on theMankindShow.com and WithUsOrAgainst.Us thank you so much for tapping in. I love Wednesday because it’s time to talk about my documentary series “The TUC” and what’s happening, how the project is evolving, and give a peek into the interviews and performances I’ve already recorded. So when I started the project, I had such a clear focus on what I wanted and I didn’t necessarily want to be a documentarian, I just had an incredible story to tell. COVID obliterated any chance of telling that story and the narrative completely changed. Well, not completely, but now I’ve pivoted into documenting a community of artists and my vision, let’s just say it’s less than clear. Maybe I should just do one centralized video instead of a series. I feel like the way I’m trying to release it might be too drawn out. I dunno, what do you think? Lemme know and to follow @theTucMovie you can just go to TheTUC.com The clip I’m going to play today is from one of the first interviews I did for the film. I connected with Jay Bailey at Smash Lame's studio, check it out. (Jay Bailey clip) I wanna thank everyone within the sound of my voice right now, I appreciate you for tapping in. We had another Takeover meeting last night and I couldn’t be more excited for the plans we’re making and I’ll be breaking the news right here when it does so stay with me, I promise it’s gonna be worth it. No show tomorrow until I can get this whole podcast roundup thing rounded up but this has been another episode of the Mankind Podcast, I’m ya man MK and I’ll see you on casual Friday. ☮️
June 23, 2021
It’s Takeover Tuesday, June 22nd, 2021 My name is MK and you are tapped in with the Mankind Podcast a Takeover AZ media program on theMankindShow.com and WithUsOrAgainst.Us thank you so much for listening, let’s get started. This Friday in the Takeover Lounge we have a very special guest, she’s making some serious waves in the city with her crew OCF and her first single “Easy Mourning” is an underground smash, I’m talking about Rae L. She’s a musician, event coordinator, social media manager and she’s definitely making an impact on the Tucson scene. (Easy Mourning clip) I can promise you, it’s gonna be a great conversation this Friday, June 25th, and watch live on TakeoverLounge.com you’ll be glad you did because she’s got such a great personality, we’re gonna have some fun so tap in with Rae L. If you follow the Takeover Lounge IG @loungetakeover or our host @Z__Giv then you might know that Z is moving to Phoenix this week and everyone has been asking, “are we moving the show to Phoenix?” So before I give you my answer, I reached out to Z so that he can give you his. (Z Giv clip) Here’s what I say, we’ve always been trying to expand our reach and we’re still gonna be a Tucson-based platform that does cool interviews with amazing Tucson artists but we’ve gotta grow or die, so off we go into the wild blue yonder. And I feel like I’ve been talking about it non-stop but honestly, the collab with Bar w/Friends and Heelface Podcast at least in my opinion is the way forward for the Takeover platform in Tucson. I’m hoping to continue that narrative and echo that sentiment and bring back the vibe that events like the Roundtable used to provide. We’ll see what happens but I’m excited for the future and looking to collab so hit us up at contact@TakeoverLounge.com or text the Mankind hotline 520-276-9121 I am so happy to send congratulations to the dudes Kaz and Century over at the Hood Diner Podcast for celebrating 3 years of serving up one of Tucson’s finest shows. Cheers guys keep up the great work! I also wanna thank everyone who’s listened to the show since day 1 and everyone who started listening today! I can’t do this without you and I appreciate the support very very much, thank you. I’d also like to thank the Takeover team for always holding me down and a special thank you to Flotrane, the poet G.P., Jay Bailey, and Rae L. Collectively known as OCF but I love you guys the listeners the most. My name is MK and this is still the Mankind Podcast, I’ll see you tomorrow, ☮️.

“Shows are back and so are live podcasts, lets go!” It’s Monday, June 21st my name is MK and your're tapped in to the Mankind Podcast A Takeover AZ media program on theMankindShow.com and WithUsOrAgainst.us thank you so much for joining me today where I’ll be your spirit guide in this fever dream called Tucson hip hop. What a weekend it was the east side, east side, east side came back into the foray with the Nathan Villins album release party and Truly kicked off Select Saturdays at Club 4th with a bang, not literally tho. Shows are clearly back and TCB is booked into November so it’s really looking like the hottest summer that the Tucson scene has ever seen. Speaking of TCB the Takeover team was in there for most of the day Saturday recording a couple of absolutely incredible interviews with some of Az’s best that is Noises @NoisesINTL and Tucson’s favorite DJ ENZYM3 and we had a blast! Spiral productions @spiralproductions_ was in there doing all the filming and we had a live audience with YML Nene, Terrel from Creative Collabs, and BLAX Friday was in the house and you know the big bad Runtski was servin up his famous brand of comedy and spirits. We’re dropping both interviews for Takeover Tuesday starting tomorrow with Noises so this would be the only chance to get a lil sneak peek and you know I gotchu. (Noises clip) Stay Tuned for that coming up tomorrow and the Dj enzym3 interview coming up next week on Takeover Tuesday. But If you missed us this week it’s all good because we’re doing it again next Saturday, we’re calling it Pod w/Friends at TCB 6 pm Hosted by the brilliant and beautiful S. Beezy of R Turn Ent. and he’s half man half Amazen! With ya boys Zeus and Stu opening up with a Heel to the Face and a Takeover, Takeover! We’re gonna try to interview all the artists that are performing at Bar w/Friends and maybe get a look at soundcheck, I dunno. But the lineup is stacked with my mans AGO, everybody loves Big Mama Trahma, the kid early 3am, I dunno if ya’ll remember Justus Oldsport from THHF19 but I definitely do, and coming all the way from somewhere else he goes by Dakotah Faye and it’s gonna be a movie. Last Bar w/Friends until August so come thru, say hi. Join me tomorrow to talk about who’s coming to the Lounge this Friday, I’m super excited! And I wanna thank everyone who’s been tapping in and supporting, I can’t do it without you. Thank you to Runtski at Thunder Canyon for holding us down in so many ways, thank you to my Takeover team Z & D, Spiral productions, DJjj Enzym3, Noises and Collin with 2 L’s my name is MK and this has been another edition of the great and powerful Mankind Podcast. I’ll see you tomorrow. Peace.
June 21, 2021
Hey guys casual Friday MK here and today we’re mixing it up and I’m gonna deconstruct my podcast for you. Is that Crazy? I dunno. So, my process for this particular project the Mankind Podcast is pretty simple and this is the beginning of a series about creating podcasts, I’m gonna talk about preparing and launching your pod, hardware and recording equipment, music and SFX and a lot more but, let’s call this “Podcraft part 1” and this time around, we’re just gonna focus on building a script, recording and organizing the audio, uploading the episode and promoting it as simply as possible, easy peezy, right. So for me, I like to start with the “tag line” it’s just a 5-10 word “dirty summary” of the show. Ideally it’s catchy or funny and I actually write this at the end usually so I can make sure to tie everything together as much as possible but for a show like today, I’ll use it t keep myself on topic. So it would be like… “It’s Friday but there’s no roundup, this week we’re doing a podcast, deconstructed” And for pre-recorded or longer edited shows, it’s fun to use a short clip from an intriguing portion of the recording, I’m trying to build curiosity and draw the listener in. I just have fun with it and try to make the tag line stand out. Even though it’s technically completely optional, it’s one of those details that adds loads of value. For the main body of the show I just write a few paragraphs and I try to organize topics by days of the week so like Mondays are a weekend recap and I talk about upcoming events, Takeover Tuesdays I talk about the Takeover Lounge and give you early access to who our guest that week is. Wednesday is a profile kind of day where I talk about documentarian type stuff and give updates to projects I’m working on. Thursday is podcasting about podcasting day and its starting to blend into Casual Friday which is just a no script, stripped down easy going weekly recap and I just reiterate what’s happening on Takeover Lounge that night and where to find me/us that weekend and the cycle continues. When I write the scripts though, I do try to write them with the inflection of how I “talk” versus how I “write” I find there is a fine line and I’m constantly re-reading it out loud and re-writing until it’s right. For the outro, I try to thank as many people as I can without being obnoxious and understanding this is a work in progress so sometimes I try to drop a quick breadcrumb or just tell you what I have planned in my mind for tomorrow’s episode, something like that. I try to make it a big finale so you miss it when its over. Viola we’re done writing the script.
June 18, 2021
“Today we throwback to another era in Tucson hip hop” It’s Wednesday, June 16th, 2021 and I’m your host MK welcome back to another edition of the Mankind Podcast a Takeover AZ Media program on theMankindShow.com and WithUsOrAgainst.Us thank you so much for tapping in. On Wednesdays I like to talk about the docu-series I’m producing called “The TUC” and this week I wanna shake it up just a lil bit and give you a look into my documentarian roots. “A Night In the Life” was a collaboration between Mankind and a student group from the film school at the University of Arizona and It basically followed my band and did vox pop interviews for a few hours as we took over Che’s Lounge for a night. Check it out. (A Night In The Life clip) I’ll be making that full documentary available on the Takeover Media Patreon very soon and I’d like to thank my boys from the band the Canfield brothers J.C. And A.C. Alex Rockstar Ruiz, Tyler TiMWiNN Hogan and rest in blessings to my brother Weird Harold Garland to all my people listening I can’t do this without you! Thank you so much for tapping in! We’ll be back Thursday with the method to my madness that is podcasting but that’s it for now, I’ll see you, tomorrow. ☮️

“Well, We made it through another amazing weekend for Tucson hip hop” It’s Monday Monday, June 14th, 2021 I’m your host MK, and welcome to another daily edition of the Mankind Podcast, a Takeover AZ Media program found on theMankindShow.com and WithUsOrAgainst.Us Hip hop is alive in Tucson! I had a blast with the Takeover team this weekend and it don’t stop because I wanna wish a special Happy Birthday to one of my very favorite people on this planet, she’s a Gemini who puts the “Can” in Canadian and she’s one hell of a great person, she is the co-host for our Takeover Lounge happy birthday to the one the only, Daniella Almeida! We love you and we hope you have a fantastic day, week, month, year! Go wish her a good one on social media at @daniwrldtakeover But we had the whole crew at “El show” on Saturday, the sponsor for Takeover Lounge, LPKNC was doing community outreach. Spiral Productions was filming everything behind the scenes and as always from Soze and Ago to 850 and Evander Grimm the show was insane! (El Show clip) Shoutout to the entire 850 squadron and everyone who made that such a memorable event, Truly providing the sounds and Solar Culture at this point is an institution and has been a place for Tucson hip hop to thrive for decades. After that, we took a stroll down the street to the home base right now, where else but Thunder Canyon for Vibe Night with MasSyc and had a great time with even more of the incredible talent in this city and you know when Beezy, Trahma, Sycness, Mas Vas and Tommy Will is on the bill it's about to be a party. June 14, 2021
Yo yo yo welcome to casual Friday thank you for coming, how you guys doin? It’s ya man Mankind, back in effect you know what’s up every Friday I go mostly off the script and just kinda talk about tonight cuz I want you to tap in to Takeover Lounge where our guest came from Pontiac Michigan he had one of the most prolific albums of 2020 called “Prime” one of the most talented and active emcees in our scene right now and his name says it all he’s truly Amazen! I still play the house of prime basically every day, reflections pt. 1,2 and 3 are all wild and his catalog is just CRAZY! He’s honestly just got a great personality for this rap shit. I’mma talk about it next week but he’s one of our guest hosts for the upcoming we’re calling it pod w/friends event. He’s definitely pushing the envelope and he’s a huge asset to the Tucson scene. Tap in tonight go to takeoverlounge.com and there are all the links to watch live. I have a couple of things to ask then imma get outta here and go get ready for tonight. I want this show to be the best it can be so, what do you think of this format so far? Is it too short? Too often? Should I save it all for one day and just release a 20-30 minute show once a week? What are your thoughts? When it's a small platform like this, your opinion really matters and helps a lot. Another thing is I wanna get Thursday's podcast roundup more polished and just get like a regular rotation of show previews and voices from the community. So I just ask that you kinda bear with me on Thursdays while I get that figured out but if you do have any suggestions they’re always welcome. I think that’s it for this week y’all, thanks again for always tapping in. I’ll see you tonight on Takeover or tomorrow June 12 if you catch me at El Show with Aske and Evander Grimm, I’ll have free stickers and some free T-shirts on me so come say hi. Otherwise, I’ll see you back here Monday, WithUsOrAgainst.Us #MankindPodcast

We didn’t just get HeelFace Podcast to join us and double down on the podcast interviewy goodness but Z and Daniella are gonna be in PHX interviewing Jon Blaze at IKON radio so that means to pull this off, we needed a guest host or two. So check it out June 26th at Thunder Canyon Brewery before Bar w/Friends we’re recording a very special live edition of Takeover Lounge this time hosted by the Queen S. Beezy herself and one of the hottest new voices on the TUC scene, he’s all man and all Amazen! Actually you should definitely tap in this Friday 8pm on TakeoverLounge.com when we’ll have Amazen in the studio talking about it, we’ll cover his career, moving from Pontiac, Mi. and so much more. But don’t take my word for it. (Amazen clip) This Friday pull up to takeoverlounge.com and June 26th pull up to the Bar w/Friends pre-game event! Interview platforms have always been a hot commodity for independent artists especially in smaller markets where there’s virtually no industry exposure at all, it can be difficult to navigate without a manger or a team. So I’d like to talk a lil bit about how to get an interview on Takeover Lounge and there’s a few concepts that carry over across all interview platforms and show bookings. By the way this is just quickie 2 or 3 things type list, it’s not an all inclusive guide to booking yourself on podcasts. I just have a lot of experience in this particular area so I thought I’d share just a few relevant hacks but generally, this stuff you MIGHT already know. 1. Be friendly: I shouldn’t even have to say this but sadly I do. Be outgoing, and provide a sense of value to everyone you approach. Especially in your home markets but really go above and beyond with everyone that you reach out to. 2. Add actual value: It’s not just about sharing your recent drop or an upcoming show, add value to the people you reach out to. This is a tough one because there’s so many ways to add value and everyone is unique. Use social currencies and always remember, people that are interested, are interesting. Don’t make it about you, it’s really just that simple. 3. Get familiar: at least a quick profile skim, you don’t need to be a die hard fanatic of the show but knowing a little goes a long way and knowing peoples names is a HUGE bonus. It’s important that this is a mutually beneficial relationship and familiarity is a quick way to prove that your committed to it. 4. BONUS Attitude of Gratitude: lead with gratitude and be humble. Period. Like I said this isn’t the end all be all guide to getting on a podcast and you can really use these concepts anywhere you might need to be a little better prepared, in life. I’m gonna drop the mic on that note and say thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone tapping in to show I can’t do this without YOU! I wanna send a shout out to my family over at Takeover Lounge, Z GiV and Daniella y’all are KILLING it! A very special thank you to the team making the dream, S. Beezy, Amazen, Zeus and Babyface Stu get ready for podmaggedon at TCB on the 26th, but I’ll see you tomorrow. 🏽

Without a physical venue, some artists are just learning about streaming and many may find it difficult even, overwhelming, growing, and maintaining an online presence in this absolute stampede of online creators Covid-19 has thrust upon us. My guest today has embodied what it means to “stay grindin” in uncertain times. Aske is one of the hardest working artists hands down and his charisma on and off stage is infectious. Our live podcast event was a sold-out extravaganza at where else but South Sixth Bodega and we had an inspiring conversation about the Tucson scene, taking risks, staying motivated and so much more. Thank you, Aske and the entire 850 gang as well as Cheppe the Taco King and the South Sixth Bodega squad for making all this possible and make sure to continue to support local artists and businesses through these trying times. We’re planning season 2 of the illest podcast in the Southwest and the lineup is gonna be over the top!
