119. Training within your limits - the later part of marathon training - when to push and when not to push
With your fall marathon approaching you have got a good 6-8 weeks of training left. You are nearing the end of your training, and there is no amount of food or rest you can get to make you feel whole. We get it. Training for a marathon is hard. Also, besides the lack of rest and seemingly off-balanced nutrition, there are things you feel. Soreness or injury? When do you keep pushing? In this episode we speak with David Levine, head coach of the LA Roadrunners gives us some guidance on what to expect and what to do to complete your cycle. In this episode we are going to do a race recap of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. This marathon is special as there is so much meaning and history to it. In April of 1995, two men destroyed the Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City filling 168 people, 10 of which were children. This marathon exists to keep the memories of those victims alive and remind us that we can overcome hard things when we come together. One highlight of this marathon included an expo with a panel of legends (Bill Rodgers, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Dick Beardsley, and others) who were there to answer questions of the running community. 75. Marathon Blues and Post Marathon Recovery
75. Marathon Blues and Post Marathon Recovery
In this episode we talk about two very important topics: 1. MARATHON BLUES and 2. POST MARATHON RECOVERY. The marathon blues, also known as post race depression, is a sentiment that a lot of runners experience after the race. We will give you a proper definition, and will talk to you about the symptoms, causes, and how to handle these feelings.  When it comes to post marathon recovery, we see much advice on the internet about how much time to take off after your marathon, but very little information as to why those numbers are prescribed. So we look at some studies that will give us an idea how to translate the results of the studies into what is best for us runners as an individual. We will also talk about what things to do and what things not to do to speed up our recovery.

In this episode spoke with Bryan Green, the author of Make the Leap - a sports psychology book for runners. We asked him about some of the main concepts, including how “the leap” works, the concept of “the hidden training plan”, as well as many definitions of words and concepts that - when applied to running - make us rethink how we should think. 51. Turning your miles into more (money) with Gene Gurkoff
51. Turning your miles into more (money) with Gene Gurkoff
In this episode we spoke about using our logged miles to do something good. All of us have running watches or some sort of device that enables us to track out progress. Well, there are a few option, and you don’t have to pick one. There are many ways to log your miles. One option is to sign up with achievements, where you can log miles. Once you reach 10,000 points, you can get yourself a gift card or donate your miles to charity. Very simple, and here is a link: https://tinyurl.com/yheruj5s That is something really rewarding. And if you wanna do even more, you can do so. There’s a company that allows you to log your miles with them, automatically, and those miles will earn $ for a good case. So we decided to interview Gene Gurkoff. Gene Gurkoff is the Founder of Charity Miles, a free iPhone/Android app that enables people to earn money for charity when they walk, run or bike. He explains the history of the company as well as how all this works. Gene himself has run 35 marathons and 6 Ironman triathlons to raise money for Parkinson's research in honor of his grandfather who has the disease. 50. On pregnancy and post-partum running with Coach Tiffany Spearman
In this episode we asked Coach Tiffany Spearman about running WHILE pregnant and post-partum. As a well-versed running coach we asked her about her opinion when it came running while pregnant, starting with how safe it is to run, how much one should run, whether heart rate mattered, what some benefits are, where to find the energy, what some complications and precautions are, and when someone should stop. As for post-partum running, we asked her when it would be safe to resume running, how to approach running after having a baby, we asked her about running and breastfeeding, and last but not least, weight-loss. 44. From marathon training to triathlon training with Adrian Valdivieso
In this episode we consult with Los Angeles based triathlon coach Adrian Valdivieso about what it takes to switch from "just running" to training for a tri. Some of our most burning questions were how do we go from focusing on running only to focusing on multiple sports? What do we focus on most, our weak sports or our better ones? What do we need? Basically, just what does it take? And Adrian answers them all.
