6. Angela de Castro - Clown in Charge and Artistic Director of the Why Not Institute

This week Liz and Becky are joined by Angela de Castro an award winning clown, theatre practitioner, actor, director and speaker. De Castro is the Clown in Charge and Artistc Director at the Why Not Institue and we spoke about her career in the arts, what she has been doing to keep going through the pandemic and what the future might look like. Aaaaaannnnd we're back! After a short break we're so glad to return with The Voices Project Podcast. This week Liz and Becky are joined by 3 backstage freelancers, Steph, Antony and Anna. We spoke about the ever changing regulations and rules of indoor performance, how different backstage jobs are affected by the pandemic and what the prospects are for returning to some kind of normality. 4: Sam Avery and Alexandra Hofgartner

This week Liz and Becky are joined by Sam Avery and Alexandra Hofgartner. Sam is the Artistic Director of the Comedy Trust and a stand up comedian who was half way through a national tour when lockdown hit. He talks about the pros and cons of trying to do outreach over the internet during lockdown with The Comedy Trust and some of the more unique lockdown gigs he's been offered.  Alexandra is the Artistic Director of The Decedant Rabbit and a co-producer for The Ministry of Burlesque. She is a multitskilled practitioner who directors, performs, teaches, produces and more. Becky and Alexandra discuss online cabaret, protecting small venues and the impracticalities of teaching under covid restrictions.

3: Grace Gallagher and Rachael Smart of Ugly Bucket Theatre

This week Liz and Becky are joined by Grace and Rachael who are the amazing team that is Ugly Bucket Theatre. Ugly Bucket fuse clown, techno and verbatim to bring hilarious and hard hitting pieces of work to the stage. Their past productions include Bost Uni Pluse, a show about post  university depression, Two Clowns One Cup which explores women's sexuality and their most recent piece of work is Good Grief, a show about  grief. We talk about their journey over the past three years as a company, how their devising and creative process works, how that has  changed during lockdown and the work they now want to make.

This week Liz and Becky are joined by Andy Dockerty who is the Managing Director of Adlib. Adlib is a lighting, sound and visuals hire, sales and installations company who have seen all of their current and future work disappear overnight due to lockdown. Andy built Adlib from the ground up and the company now employs over 160 full time members of staff and works on large scale events including many international music tours and large festivals. He has also been a key organiser for the action group #WeMakeEvents. We talk about how he built Adlib from just him and a PA system in a transit van to being the industry leader it is today, we discuss #WeMakeEvents and we delve into what draws people into the technical and production side of the industry and the skills and passion it takes.

The Voices Project Trailer

New podcast brought to you by March for The Arts as part of the Voices project.

We interview people from all over the arts and talk about what lockdown has been like for them. We talk about why and how they got into the arts, what the arts means to them, what lockdown has been like and if they've had any support or been able to carry on making work and what they think the future holds. From theatre, music, outdoor performance, comedy, participatory arts, gigs, and more the whole arts has been affected by this pandemic and the way the government are responding.
