How to Mindfully Break Free from Headline Stress Know the Psychology
Researchers at Penn State University found that 75% of shares on Facebook were made without the user clicking through to read the content. This is poignant given that so many people receive “news” from social media. The study appeared in the journal Nature Human Behavior in November 2024. Otherresearch studies have found similar results. Many on social media appear to receive their “news” from the headlines only.
Headlines and small narrative blurbs are created usingprinciples of psychology to attract and engage readers. Unfortunately, headlines can be misleading and can evoke emotions which can create stress andincrease anxiety.

How Smart Women Boost their Holiday Joy and Cheer During the Holidays
Where does the magic of the holidays live? The magic lives in us, in every breath we take. Every breath is an opportunity to live life in any way we choose. We so often get bogged down in our own stuff, our family and friends’ stuff and the stuff of the world. Sometimes it is hard to breathe. This causes us to forget that with each breath comes an opportunity. A choice. A decision.
This holiday season, women can choose how they will use that breath. I personally have chosen to experience joy and cheer with those I love. I want you to make a choice that fits and feeds you.

10 Toxic Thought Patterns that Lead to Staggering Burnout in Black Women Part 2
Emotional self-care relies on one’s ability to think clearly and factually. So often our thought life is full of imaginings, dreams and fancies that cause satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, the thoughts may not be factual.
Our thoughts are also influenced by experiences and ingrained beliefs. This affects our ability to engage in healthy interactions. So, how does one deliver emotional self-care in a meaningful way? We begin by recognizing and understanding our habitual toxic thought patterns, then we work to change them.
In this episode of “Stress Talk” Live with Marcyline, we continue sharing the “10 Toxic Thought Patterns that Lead to Staggering Burnout in Black Women.”

10 Toxic Thought Patterns that Lead to Staggering Burnout in Black Women
Do you park in the same spot at work? Sit in the same pew at church? You probably order the same meal at your favorite fast-food restaurant.
We are creatures of habit doing the same actions in the same order at the same time of the day.
Habits also fuel our thought life. We each have patterns of thinking that were developed by our experiences. These thought patterns influence our wellbeing. They can also increase our potential for burnout.
In this episode of “Stress Talk” Live with Marcyline, we are going to share five of the “10 Toxic Thought Patterns that Lead to Staggering Burnout in Black Women.”

How Empowered Black Women use Core Beliefs to Improve Mental Health
“I am not good enough.” “I am not important.” “I am damaged that’s why no one will love me.”
Do these statements sound familiar? You may have a friend, sister, aunt or cousin who makes similar statements. Perhaps you say these things about yourself. You and I both know that these are not the only negative statements that women tell themselves. We could probably develop a list that is pages long.
These statements are verbal reminders of the doubts we feel about ourselves. We think and say them when we feel vulnerable. They come from beliefs that are held deep inside and negatively affect our mental health.

3 Actions Secure Black Women Take to Practice Emotional Self-Care
I often end correspondence, talks and even video podcasts with the phrase “take good care.” To “take good care,” we must go beyond our thoughts and dive deep into our beliefs about ourselves and the world around us.
Taking good care is more than a spa day or a day spent with friends, although those activities are fun and revitalizing. Taking good care requires introspective action that may be challenging and uncomfortable. We must sometimes allow ourselves to be vulnerable to get to those deep places that keep us from moving forward.

3 Steps Black Women Should Take Towards Emotional Self-Care
We are starting a study of what is needed for Black women to take care of themselves emotionally. Life is tough for Black women. We must be all things to most people and twice as good to some. Our worth is often measured not by our character, but by the texture of our hair, the color of our skin or the size of our butt.
Regardless of our accomplishments, we tend to be our own worst critics. This makes us sad, anxious and depressed. We must learn and practice ways to stay safe, feel secure and stand with stability in a world that does not always value us.

3 Strong Actions Women Need to Live a Brilliant Golden Life
I am still reeling from those magnificent performances during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. What about you? I’ve thought about Steph Curry’s 3 point run that sealed the gold medal for the USA men’s basketball team. I watched how the women’s basketball team banded together to defeat an awesome French women’s team.
Sifan Hassan won the women’s Olympic marathon in record time. She also won bronze medals in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter races. She ran over 38 miles over the course of the Olympic event.
So many of us dream of living a golden life, one in which we accomplish and live out our cherished desires. How does one get there? The Olympic athletes and those who aspired to compete in the Olympics demonstrated what it takes to stand on the top podium. We can use similar strategies.

3 Steps You Need to Win the Gold Medal Life You Desire
I’ve been watching the Olympics and continue to be in awe if these magnificent athletes. The women’s 4x400 relay blew everyone out in the final to win the gold medal in that event. Katie Ledecky won four medals and is the most decorated female swimmer in Olympic history. The US gymnastics team earned medals as they showed mettle.
I have a few new basketball favorites in Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards. The Swede Mondo Duplantis earned the Olympic Gold Medal in pole vault along with my admiration. All the athletes are phenomenal. They dedicated their lives to sports that they love, and they were rewarded for that dedication.
What would happen if we dedicated our time and effort to live a truly satisfying life? What are you willing to do to win the gold medal life that you have been seeking?

R.A.I.N. Meditation
Compassion is often known as love in action. It is when we see suffering and we take action to do something about it.
What happens when we are the ones who are suffering? Feeling overwhelmed is a form of suffering.
The R.A.I.N. Meditation can help to bring clarity and enable you to nurture a sense of safety, stability and security.
In this episode of Stress Talk Live with Marcyline, we are going to practice R.A.I.N.

Technology has enabled a virtual world in which we can occupy the same space at the same time without being physically present. It’s quite fascinating that the world has become so small. It’s easy to speak with someone on another continent. The only problem may be getting the time zone right.

8 Benefits Women Get from a Balanced and Harmonious Life Plan
What makes for a balanced life? If you are a working woman, with a family, a balanced life may seem elusive. What does that even mean, anyway?
Well, let’s talk about what it doesn’t mean first. A balanced life does not mean that we can use accounting principles or mathematics to determine whether we are living in equilibrium. Time is not the only value we should consider. Our skewed ideas of perfection also do not create or define life balance.
Life balance is as individualized as we each are. The definition, measure and outcome are uniquely our own and requires personal introspection. To create and live in a balanced way, we each must review and consider what it means and how to reach it.
In today’s “Stress Talk” Live with Marcyline, we will begin a month-long discussion about balanced lives as we share “8 Benefits Women Get from a Balanced and Harmonious Life Plan.”

How Practicing Mindfulness Builds a Woman's Overall Wellbeing and Resilience
Most of us want to exercise regularly, eat healthily, relax and live a satisfying life. This could be a definition of wellbeing. How does that happen? So many of us put ourselves on hold while we try to meet the responsibilities of home and work.
Mindfulness goes beyond sitting quietly, repeating a mantra or meditating. Mindfulness can influence our ability to improve our wellbeing and cause us to be more resilient.

Compassion is the First Anchor Women Embrace for Mindful Living
Mindfulness is not just sitting in a corner on a cushion chanting or listening to a guided meditation. It is not just knowing a method to calm oneself or lower stress levels. Mindfulness goes beyond one single person. The foundation for mindfulness living is that everything is connected. We are all interconnected.
Imagine that. What one thinks, says and does affects others. What one believes, drives thoughts and behaviors which affect others. Women have an opportunity to embrace this concept and influence the world around them by extending compassion to themselves and to others.

How Women Absolutely Win the World Practicing Compassion and Loving-Kindness
Does anyone remember the song “What the World Needs Now is Love?” Hal David wrote the lyrics and Burt Bacharach composed the music. Jackie DeShannon was the first to sing this song. I remember listening to Dionne Warwick’s version in our home as a young girl.
I was too young, when the song was released, to understand the depth of division that the United States was experiencing at that time. I have since learned by reading and studying the history, that it was a chaotic and scary time for the adults.
We are living in chaotic and scary times right now. Different yet in some ways like the 1960s. We can choose a path that brings us together or one that destroys us.

3 Captivating Benefits Every Woman Enjoys by Practicing Mindfulness
Mindfulness has many different, yet similar definitions. Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn, the developer of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction defines mindfulness as the awareness that arises through “paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.”
My teacher, David Nichtern, the founder of Dharma Moon, an online mindfulness-based education platform and global community, taught that mindfulness is “learning to bring our attention to the present moment and simply seeing what arises without bias or judgment.”
Although mindfulness is the latest buzzword these days, many have misconceptions regarding practice and benefits. We hope to share a little bit of both during this series.
In today’s “Stress Talk” with Marcyline, we will share “3 Captivating Benefits Every Woman Enjoys by Practicing Mindfulness.”

How to Release Emotions and Beat Stress with Passive Progressive Relaxation
For an entire month, you have heard me say “when emotions are active, the stress response is active.” Women maintain high stress levels because we are constantly bombarded with situations and events that incite our emotions.
Why? The limbic system that manages emotions is the same system that manages the stress response.
In previous episodes, we talked about the connection between emotions and stress. We also shared ways in which women can lower stress and keep it low.
In today’s “Stress Talk” with Marcyline, we are going to practice passive progressive relaxation as we answer, “How to Release Emotions and Beat Stress with Progressive Relaxation.”

3 Healthy Mindful Actions to Share Emotions and Lower Stress
The experiences we refer to as emotions can carry us away like a turbulent wave created by a weather system in the ocean. They can create a sentiment within us that is so overpowering that words cannot describe them.
Emotions give us power and yet they can lead us to self-destruct. There are three questions one can ask. Do we really know or understand how emotions work? Can we describe how they occur? How can we maintain health and wellbeing when they are active?
In today’s “Stress Talk” with Marcyline, we are going to share “3 healthy mindful actions to share emotions and lower stress.”

Guided Meditation to Relieve Feelings of Anger and Resentment
Mindfulness meditation is a powerful practice that enables strength, stability, and clarity of mind. This centuries old practice has many forms and definitions. Mindfulness can be described as learning to bring our attention to the present moment by focusing on our breath and seeing what arises without judgment.
We are living in a stress filled world. Everywhere we turn, we are bombarded with words and images of anger, distrust, and dissension. This is occurring in our homes, in the workplace, and in schools. A simple visit to the store may expose you to the anger and resentment of others. You may feel the same anger and resentment. People are impatient. They are angry and taking their anger out on anyone in their path.
A mindfulness lifestyle is one in which you can bounce back or manage the difficulties and difficult feelings. This is called resilience. You live in balance can manage your emotions in a healthy manner
In today’s “Stress Talk” Live with Marcyline we are going to share a guided “Mindfulness Meditation practice to relieve feelings of Anger and Resentment.”
