Episode 44: Improving Family Health with Nanette Mackenroth

Episode 44: Improving Family Health with Nanette Mackenroth

I'm a family health coach with certifications from the Primal Health Coach Institute and the FASTer Way to Fat Loss. Over 30 years of coaching and leadership combined with a passion for helping women to live health happy lives is the platform of my program. It's about getting back to the way our ancestors lived and ate. It's not about diet, deprivation, counting calories, or spending hours in a gym. I help women reclaim their health and weed through the Wild Wild West of health advice to confidently make optimal choices for themselves and for their family. Healthy women raise healthy families.

Words from Nanette:

"As a new mom, you have hopes and dreams for your family and for their future. You see them growing healthy and strong. For me, fast forward to the day one of my kids was struggling in school because of her ADD. My thought was how can I juggle this busy life of mine to support her health? I felt hopeless. I knew she deserved better; we all did. I just didn’t know how.  That’s when I took matters into my own hands. I radically shifted the way I shopped, cooked and ate.  I learned that what we put in and on our bodies matters. I changed how we cleaned our home and cared for our bodies.  The epidemics of obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and autoimmune conditions are so prevalent in our society. We even accept them as normal. This problem is so much bigger than just my family’s, and my mission is to change this trajectory.  As I began to take ownership of our health, things began to shift, and health returned to all of us. My Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is in remission. My husband’s type 2 diabetes is under control. My daughters’ food sensitivities, allergies, ADD, and anxiety are improved. Our lives have much less stress and much more joy and energy.  We improved because we eat real whole food, move our bodies and prioritize sleep. I won’t sugar coat it and tell you it was easy, it wasn’t. I will tell you it is possible, and it will change your life forever.    For my family, it has changed everything and none of us would go back. Understand that you have a choice. You know what is best for your family. You know them better than anyone on this planet. Moms have an innate gift, a gut intuition that tells us when something is not right. I am so grateful that in that moment of hopelessness, I found trust in myself to take control of our health."

"You can take control of your family's health. Our bodies are born to be lean, strong and healthy. Trust your instincts. Question authority. Get the facts."

Episode 43: Being In-Tune with Your Energy with Linda Binns

Episode 43: Being In-Tune with Your Energy with Linda Binns

Linda Binns is an accomplished energy coach, speaker and author of several books on energy. Throughout her life she has been something of a medical mystery to medical doctors and natural health practitioners alike, as her body responds in unexpected ways to treatments. Through self-awareness and taking responsibility for her own health, she now knows this is not because there is something wrong with her that needs to be fixed, but rather she has learned how to embrace her body’s uniqueness and work with it, rather than against it. Her mission is to help others with similar experiences to do the same.

Some words from Linda:

"When I turned 40 it was like a switch went off in my body. I gained weight and became more and more tired. Every doctor, natural health practitioner and energy healer I worked with thought they had the answers and that they could help me. Nothing worked. The phrase I became used to hearing was "That's unusual. I've never seen anyone respond that way before." I developed insomnia and, although occasionally I was able to lose a few pounds temporarily, it would always come back again no matter what I did. I really wanted to find the person who could fix me. I thought there must be someone out there who knew what was wrong with me. It took me 20 years of self-discovery and learning to understand myself and my body so that I could finally find some answers. I have finally been able to lose the weight, and for the first time ever feel good about my body. My health journey is ongoing and my body has a lot to tell me - I have now learned to listen. Most of all, and what I want to share, is that there is a percentage of the population (about 20%) who are just like me and have similar experiences and frustrations when it comes to their health (and other areas of their life). I want to share what I now know so they can avoid the frustrations and pitfalls that I have experienced.'

"Know, accept and BE who you are. Learn how to listen to your body and take responsibility for your health. Don't wait for someone to 'fix' you."

Episode 28: Long Term Athleticism and Vitality with Dude Spellings

Episode 28: Long Term Athleticism and Vitality with Dude Spellings

Dude is a lifelong health and wellness enthusiast and amateur athlete.  Before a brief cross country season in college, Dude was a 2x state champion in the mile, the two mile, and the mile relay. After his first marathon, Dude became interested in Ultramarathons and his endurance career peaked in 2006 when he ran 16 ultramarathons in one year.  Dude has also done some fairly extreme self-supported distance challenges, including two double crossings of the grand canyon, and a 143 mile 3 day adventure in the High Sierra in California.  He has also summited the 3rd highest peak in North America, and many smaller mountains.

Like many people in today’s society, by mid-life Dude found himself drifting away from being active as the pursuits of career and family consumed so much time and attention.  By 2012, Dude was 50 lbs overweight with aches and pains all over, culminating in a back injury that left him debilitated on the floor, unable to move.

The injured back was a wake up call that led Dude on a personal journey back to health and wellness. He lost 50 lbs, started running again, placed 3rd in the Speedgolf World Championships, and earned a Health Coaching certification from the Primal Health Coach Institute.

Dude now coaches people how to regain their health after a lifetime of office work and modern lifestyle that keeps us sedentary, indoors, and eating processed foods.  Dude has made the journey himself and has tremendous passion for people who find it difficult to extract themselves from the modern traps that keep us unhealthy.  His mission is to find these people and guide them back to health and vitality.

Dude has been on several podcasts, which you can find here:

Episode 14: Balance and Breath Work With Pauly Nuttall

Pauly is a reconnective coach helping people connect back to themselves so they can awaken their inner power.

Growing up Pauly was bullied for 6 years for being overweight and his mum was stopping him from eating sugary foods and drinks so he didn’t gain weight, but nothing changed. His diet still consisted of a lot of carbohydrates in the forms of bread and pizza and not much emphasis on protein.

When he was travelling he got to 105kg (231 lb) and this was his heaviest. After moving to Japan Pauly's diet and lifestyle changed considerably, life slowed down and his diet consisted of a lot less processed foods. His weight just kept falling off. During this time he was also getting deeper in to spiritual work and he had to do a lot of self love work, and this is when the true transformations really happened. Pauly was physically looking well but his mind was not. He had to dive in to the times when he was bullied so I could overcome the limiting beliefs he had created, remove the blocks that were stopping him from allowing others to love him and stop him from looking for external validation. Pauly did this through plant medicine journey in Bolivia and also breathwork meditations really helped him connect back to myself.

Episode 9: Optimal Gene Expression and Life Expectancy

Having optimal gene expression allows our bodies to have longevity and improved health.

Fossil evidence leads researchers to believe that homo sapiens thousands of years of years ago had the ability to live up to age 94 if they were not injured by primitive hazards.

Episode 7: Reprograming your Genes for Optimal Health

In this solo episode I have a slightly scatterbrained exploration (sorry I should have organized my notes better) on how lifestyle, physical movement, and nutrition affect gene expression. I just go under the surface of how we can keep genetic predispositions from becoming our reality by getting back to natural and changing how we live.
