CW: medical fatphobia, medical malpractice, and cancer diagnosis.

Imagine fighting tooth and nail through the dumpster fire of the US healthcare system for months dealing with doctors not taking your symptoms seriously, and then, when you finally get in to see a specialist you so desperately need to see, he dismisses your symptoms and makes a cruel joke about your weight. This isn't made up. This really happened. And it happens all the time to fat patients. Listen to this episode to learn more about medical fatphobia and how it is so dangerous.

It's not an opportunity; It's an MLM

It's not an opportunity; It's an MLM

MLMs are popping up everywhere offering everything from shampoo to legal services to weight loss programs. The industry's value is approaching $200 billion with its promises of the #bossbabe lifestyle - set your own hours, work from home, make money while on vacation, etc. etc. But the backlash to these companies has been growing in recent years and with good reason - it's estimated that only around 1% of multilevel marketing (or networking marketing) distributors actually make a profit. In this episode, Marissa is joined by Haley O'Bryan, a therapist, anti-MLM content creator, and recent graduate student whose research focused on MLMs, to discuss the impacts these companies have on distributors and customers and their concerns with this model of operating.
