Jessica Roman is woman who loves fun and adventure. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to Florida with her parents as a teenager. Growing up in a strict and traditional Hispanic household, she found it hard to live up to the expectations of her parents. The oldest of four, she helped raise her younger siblings as her parents struggled to provide. She remembers working in the kitchen as her mother’s right hand, as the family of six depended on her for daily survival. It was in the kitchen where she discovered the love of creativity.   Music, art, and creativity quickly became her love languages.   As an adult, she spent two decades working in corporate America while building her cake decorating business on the side. Self-taught and with no formal education in culinary skills, she took a la carte classes over the course of 10 plus years to help advance her skills. See, she had to drop out of college at an early age to help financially support her family. She did what she had to do so that the younger kids were able to go to school, while she dreamed of finishing. Meanwhile, her love for the kitchen remained a part of her daily life.   She struggled with the idea of perfectionism, as for most of her life, she was a people pleaser. Her parents held her to a high standard, and she felt her worth was attached to praise. What a downward spiral this would take as she quickly realized that the world was full of takers. As a giver, there was just not enough left at the end of the day for her to feel happy.  In her mid-thirties, and never having been married or had children, she was ready to give up on the idea. But God had other plans. It was only when the pandemic hit that she slowed down enough to think about her future. That year, she went through self-love and healing courses which gave her perspective on love. She realized, at almost forty, that she deserved to be loved as well. What a concept. She could just be who she was naturally, and that was enough.  She not only became a life-coach, but decided to incorporate the creative aspect of cake decorating into her therapies. With her company, Yummy Coaching Factory, she helps professional women develop confidence and self-love from a creative angle. She holds four live, interactive events per year that help attendees express themselves through cake decorating. I grew up in a loving home in the small town of Malvern Ar. My father was the postman & my mother was the secretary of the local Baptist Church.  In the spring of 1974, I got beat up on the school bus.  This is when I enrolled in the new Karate program taught at the high school gym.  I graduated High school in 1976.  I met my wife, Julie at Henderson State University, where we graduated.  We married on Oct 1, 1983.  I ran a two-day a week Taekwondo program in Glenwood Ar, which had a population of 1212 people and teaching at my instructors school on the other days.  I took an opportunity to run a Taekwondo/ Nautilus center in Birmingham Alabama in 1984. We lived there for one year.  I opened Taekwondo University on Nov 7, 1985 in Memphis Tn.  Julie and I celebrated 39 years of marriage on Oct 1st & we celebrated Taekwondo University’s 37th anniversary on Nov 7th of this year.  I’ve traveled all over the world learning, training & promoting Taekwondo & well as developing Taekwondo associations with many dear friends & practitioners.  I’m an avid reader & I journal often. A few years ago, I wrote and published my first book, Live Your Potential.  The principles in the book are taught to each of my students to ensure their success in the future.  Principles like No Excuses, Responsibility, The Power of the Mind, The Attitude Principle & The Purpose Principle, just to name a few.  4 years ago, I was tested and was awarded the highest Taekwondo rank, a 9th Degree Black Belt & title of GrandMaster.  Julie & I have 5 successful children & 9 beautiful grandchildren.  We are blessed beyond measure!

Coming Out of The Dark: A Story With No Vicim By: Kerri Heddell A happily ever after. Its what every girl dreams of. Getting married, having kids, a white picket fence with a dog or two. Yet, we all know how blind love is, or should I say… How invective love blinds us. A Dark Veil After being persuaded to join the online dating scene, I met Mr. Perfect. He checked off everything on my list, and I quickly fell head over heels. At the time I was living in Washington DC as a flight attendant, and he lived in NY. The long distance was challenging, but added to the allure. This was the beginning of a dark veil. One day I was assigned an overnight in Rochester NY. We were finally going to meet! My heart was beating out of chest when I first laid eyes on Mr. Perfect. To say the least, he swooned me more than I care to share, but lets just say it was…pure bliss. Eventually, he moved to Washington DC, and within a short amount of time he proposed. I said YES, and we immediately began planning. We were married May 18, 2003. I honestly didn’t see anything that could go wrong. The day we came back from our honeymoon we got a call from the bank stating we had overdrawn $3,000. I was confused, but Mr. Perfect said he would handle it. Though it was handled, it was never explained. One day I came home early from work, hoping we could grab lunch As I opened the door to our bedroom, I saw him in bed with three prostitutes. I ran down the stairs in horror, screaming for them to get out. How could he do this to me? After they left he revealed he’s been addicted to pornography for fifteen years. I didn’t want my marriage to fail, so I stayed, believing we could get through it. Even his family believed I should stay. However, every time I suspected him of cheating, and confronted him about it, or when our funds would suddenly go missing, he would get angry with me. Things escalated when he pushed me down the stairs, kicked me in the stomach, and told me I shouldn’t be judging him, but stand by him. My life felt like a lie, this was not the Mr. Perfect I knew. He became controlling, wanting to know my every move, and even saying things like “You have to adjust to this lifestyle”. The abuse and cheating became daily, lasting for ten years. I was living in fear, wondering if I would ever wake up from this nightmare. It wasn’t until he decided to end the marriage that I was given a glimpse of freedom. Yet, I didn’t feel free. I found myself wanting him back… why? I knew I had to break away from this cycle, and start over…I packed what I could and moved to Virginia Beach.

Coach Darryl Johnson has committed his life to coaching and training others.  Earning his 1st Black Belt In 1991 in the art of Taekwondo, he embarked upon a path that has led him to lead thousands of others into the world of self-improvement, and being stronger and healthier versions of themselves.
