When mobile game Pokémon GO was released in 2016, AR had started to become a household name. MARKETECH Mondays | Jovan Lin, AVP Marketing, PSB Academy | Singapore
MARKETECH Mondays | Jovan Lin, AVP Marketing, PSB Academy | Singapore
MARKETECH Mondays | Stephanie George, Marketing Director, Australian Institute of Business
When dialogue on marketing is sparked, the industry against the education sector isn’t always top-of-mind, hence, doesn’t always get that much attention due to its non-mainstream dynamics - with students as the ‘consumers’, and with the product, not just a purchase that could be merely classified as either a high- or low-involvement decision, but rather, education and a person’s shot at his or her future.
We are pleased for the second time to be able to learn the career and leadership journey of one marketing leader from the education space – the marketing director of one of Australia’s largest online MBA providers, the Australian Institute of Business – Stephanie Geroge.
MARKETECH Spotlight | Metamorphosis Group | Disrupting career coaching in the Philippines
The coaching industry, while a booming industry, is still a sector that offers massive room for exploration. Coaching, or which may sometimes look to as therapy - the much stronger household name for many - started out as a service perceived to be a ‘luxury’, where people saw it as a non-essential and a service only requiring additional expense. After all, the success of coaching is dependent on the client’s life ‘struggles’ and it’s easy for prospective clients to dismiss a service which presents itself as a solution to something the client has ‘complete control’ over.
The global authority on the coaching industry, International Coaching Federation (ICF), defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought- provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” ICF said that individuals who engage in a coaching relationship can expect to experience fresh perspectives on personal challenges and opportunities, enhanced thinking and decision- making skills, enhanced interpersonal effectiveness, and increased confidence in carrying out their chosen work and life roles.
With the internet culture paving the way for more inclusive conversation in today’s time, people have grown to be more comfortable with ‘sharing’ their life problems and experiences, growing, at the same time, their openness to personal services such as coaching and therapy. One coaching firm in the Philippines, Metamorphosis Group, whose services cater to career coaching, does not just aim to leverage the opportunity of a much more accepting consumer, but also the booming industry that still has yet to penetrate the Philippines.
Of what would later become the company Metamorphosis Group, Danica started her services as a freelance career coach herself in 2019. Eventually forming her core team, the firm today offers services on career education, personal branding, and talent attraction, aside from its flagship career coaching.

MARKETECH Spotlight | Magnolia | The rise of niche players in the Digital Experience Platform scene.
Customer experience has come a long way since traditional advertising and marketing strategies, and we have ventured deeper into digitizing it, leading to the rise of digital experience platforms (DXPs).
DXPs are best explained as “a piece of technology that allows marketers to create, manage and orchestrate, deliver and optimize personalized digital experiences across all touchpoints of a customer’s digital journey.” DXPs allow organizations to connect them closer to their target markets through these online channels and strategies.
Despite various DXPs being rampant across all the global industry of customer experience, new players tend to break the norms, in search of more efficient, organized, and flexible options that allow greater options for the businesses of today to save time and resources connecting with their customers.
Such is the feat of enterprise content management system Magnolia, based in Basel, Switzerland, on which its DX platform Magnolia DX Core, was recently recognized by consulting firm Gartner as one of the new key niche players in the DXP scene, according to its 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant.

Lasco. MARKETECH Mondays | Raffy Bariso, Executive Director, Technology and Platform Services, MullenLowe Treyna | Philippines
Raffy is currently the executive director for Technology and Platform Services or TAPS, the digital unit of integrated marketing communications agency MullenLowe Treyna in the Philippines; and with the pandemic pivoting everything to digital, the word “busy” has taken a whole ‘nother meaning, with Raffy disclaiming, “busy but rewarding.”
Raffy’s entry into tech and digital has been a straightforward path, starting out as an account executive for a website back in 2004. The journey may not have been dotted with exhilarating career turns that are straight out of the movies, but still can be said to be a work of fate, with the field not being Raffy’s well-intended path.
As a communications major, he desired to work for the big names – the multinational agencies in the creative industry – but with little luck, took his first professional gig in the area of digital within a boutique agency; and from there, his expertise grew.

Before joining the rewards and discounts platform ShopBack in the Philippines, Prashant was with the Philippine arm of India-grown restaurant aggregator Zomato for five years.
What made him do the big shift? In Prashant’s words, he said he wanted to do something “different than what he was used to working on.” Having always been on the B2B side of things, he was looking for a project that will make him work on both B2B and B2C and stumbling upon ShopBack, the opportunity on the platform gave him the challenge of not just building its partners but growing its users as well.

MARKETECH Mondays | Norman Agatep, President and Managing Director of Grupo Agatep | Philippines
To thrive in marketing and public relations where creativity is the name of the game is already a challenge on its own, let alone to achieve tenure in such an industry. To become a mainstay—that is a different story altogether.
In this episode, we feature Norman Agatep. A name that may have been, over the period of time, synonymous with advertising and PR in the Philippines; a living and breathing example of a man whose passion for marketing and corporate communications has lent him an undeniable feature of success, that is, longevity in the field.

Jasrita’s marketing journey stretches a long two-decade integration into the craft. She has worked with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Oberoi Hotels and Resorts and NDTV before having focused entirely on brand and marketing for healthcare services.
She was the woman behind some of the successful marketing strategies of healthcare services at Max Healthcare, and later on at Fortis Healthcare.
Having walked the path to eventually becoming a highly-regarded marketing leader, she admits that at the end of it all, the thing that matters the most isn’t the glamour and luster of brand ownership; but goes back to the simple reason of why you chose to become a marketer, that is, the ability to impact and make better the lives of consumers.
