Tim Folkert of Migration Surfboards - Holland, Michigan

Tim Folkert of Migration Surfboards - Holland, Michigan

Raised in a small town on the shores of Lake Michigan, Tim finished school and headed out west where he discovered a girl and through her, surfing. Tim's story is the classic start at the bottom and work your way up in the surf industry as he began as a sander and polisher for two of Santa Cruz California's most productive shapers, Bob Pearson and Michel Junod. With a degree in biology and a keen interest in ornithology, Tim started his own label, Migration Surf. He himself migrated back to Michigan with his wife and three children, where today he is the only shaper for half a continent with customers ranging from Minnesota to Toronto.

The Smiling Dude in the Blue Tent

The Smiling Dude in the Blue Tent

In these times of restricted freedoms and liberties, it becomes a time to think about past times of travel and the characters we have met along the way. This episode is the story of the happiest surfer and the circumstances that made him so. It is refreshing to imagine him out there somewhere along that road heading north, living the simple life with his permanent grin. Join me on this episode about a surf hero who chose FREEDOM!

Don't Eat The Pork Tacos Point, Mexico with Señor Deputy Stink

Don't Eat The Pork Tacos Point, Mexico with Señor Deputy Stink

The Wild West of Mexican surfing in 1986 was La Ticla Mexico. Señor Stink and his Outer Banks crew made multiple cross-continent trips to surf the point that we called "Don't Eat the Pork Tacos Point". Proof that Mexico has always been dangerous, he tells of surviving cartel gunfights, the pig toilets, an afternoon fight with drunken locals in a three table beachside restaurant, and the near lynching that followed. Hear about Russel the lost Rajneesh and his twenty-four hours of hell at Ticla as well as the murder in the mountains and lessons in dealing with Mexican authorities.

Fing Yardin - Africa 1996

Fing Yardin - Africa 1996

During this hour, join me in my hammock as we hang out with Fing Yardin from the Southeast Coast of Australia as he shared his stories of learning to bodyboard due to a surfboard fin being embedded in his leg. He became a river surfer who ended up surfing the largest rapids in the world in Africa on the Zambezi River. During this hangout, Fing teaches us how to charge crocodiles, field delivery of a baby, hugging the Durban Pier during 20 foot surf, the time he threatened to kill a van driver, being one of six white dudes at the Zulu King's wedding , and using his Shark Sixth Sense. Another surf hero with stories to tell!
