554. “Don’t hit the reset button.”

554. “Don’t hit the reset button.”

Today is an amazing episode from an amazeballs book, "A Mind for Sales," by Mark Hunter. Hunter puts a heavy emphasis on Mondays. Instead of using Monday as the day to set up your week, use Mondays instead to push forward." In this episode we'll reveal that most salespeople only work about 2 days/week and when they get behind, they're quick to hit the reset button.  A great episode for not only those in the sales game, but for those who find themselves always hitting the reset button.  Grab a copy of the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Mind-Sales-Practical-Strategies-Success/dp/1400215676/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Mark+Hunter&qid=1594695059&sr=8-1 *** BONUS! After listening to today's episode, EMAIL ME @ thesaleslife1@gmail.com. Send me your name and email address and I'll email the first 10 listener's a copy of Mark Hunter's book for FREE. (must have a free Kindle account.) No strings, no hooks, just my appreciation for you being a part of The Sales Life.

553. I'll guarantee you a WIN

553. I'll guarantee you a WIN

Want a guaranteed WIN? It's impossible to be undefeated in life, but you can't be defeated when it comes to your fitness. No matter what is going on or wrong in your life, showing up to bust a sweat is a guaranteed win for you. At my lowest times in my life, fitness was the only thing that kept me from taking myself out. I was demoted, broke, and being a newly divorced parent, my children wanted nothing to do with me...fitness was the only thing I could win at. So every morning and every evening I would lift weights and go running. Normally people do the opposite. When it all hits the fan, they sit and sulk...I chose to sweat. Look at fitness as a guaranteed win for you today. You may be uncertain about economy, relationships, job situation, or how you're going to even pay your mortgage...but the one thing NO ONE can take from you is your ability productively sweat. & when I say fitness I don't mean a chiseled beach body-just bust a move. Make it a priority to bust a sweat everyday. It could be 10 minutes or 1 hour but if I did something strenuous for myself...then that's a win in my book. Don't look at how far you've slid nor how far you have to go..just go for the guaranteed win. Show up for you :) Thanks for being a winner.

You were supposed to land that account. The customer was supposed to buy from you. You guys were supposed to be together forever. You were supposed to get the promotion. YOU HAD THE WINNING HAND...& got cracked. In poker terms “cracked” is when a player beats another player who had a stronger starting hand. 🔥Thanks to Jordan Harbinger’s convo with professional poker player Maria Konnikova (I thought it was the tennis player 😂), we’re taking the cracked hand analogy forward into our Sales Life. 🔥 SHARE today’s episode 🔥SUBSCRIBE to not miss future episodes. 🔥Leave an awesome REVIEW 🔥TEXT me your questions/ideas/thoughts 337-565-0906

548. Writing, Speaking, & Selling is authentically delivered outside of your comfort zone. 💯

548. Writing, Speaking, & Selling is authentically delivered outside of your comfort zone. 💯

You say you want to keep it 💯 with others, but really you keep it 65. We both tell each other what we want to hear, but not what we need to hear. Your writing, teaching, personal convos- even the way that you sell must be delivered outside of your comfort zone. ———————————

Today's episode cheat sheet:

2:40 Most people don't keep it 100 with you. They only keep it "65"

3:20 To be authentic in my podcast episodes I realized I'd have to tell you about everything I was ashamed of. From bankruptcy, demotion, suicidal thoughts, to hopelessness, and demotion.

5:00 Writing is going to require you to not write to your audience's mind, but to their heart.

5:59 When speaking, people don't want to know how perfect you are, they want to know how imperfect you are, yet still successful.

7:55 Personal convos happen outside of your comfort zone otherwise you'll layer in resentment and frustration.

8:29 How selling outside of your comfort zone resonates with your customers.

9:33 Wrap up. The difference between a diamond and a CZ.

538. Work like a MVP, don’t act like an MVP

Author of Lost and Founder, Ram Fishkin writes about a MVP: Minimum Viable Product. Meaning an MVP for a behemoth like Nike is different than a startup like Johnny’s Hoodies. Before Nike can launch, they have to consider how it’ll affect millions of buyers, but because no one outside of the neighborhood knows anything about Johnny’s Hoodies, he can afford to make a mistake and correct it with minimal impact. Be glad that you’re unnoticed right now. You grow discouraged because you’re acting like a MVP instead of working like one. 535. It’s not the wrong decision, it was the wrong outcome.

When it comes to “decisions, Kevin Systrom, co-founder of Instagram, doesn’t feel that they lead to “consequences” but more-so “outcomes.” I never liked the only word “consequences” as it relates to making a decision because the word “consequence” tends to have a negative association to decision. What if it was a good decision? This episode will help your make better decisions. When making a decision, look at the range of potential outcomes. Often we get trapped in the weeds and either don’t take a chance or didn’t consider other potential outcomes. Make whatever decision you want, but factor in all of the potential outcomes & if it falls within an acceptable range, go forward.

532. Nothing comes hard. | Choosing hard when easy is available.

532. Nothing comes hard. | Choosing hard when easy is available.

“Everyone has uphill dreams, but downhill habits.” ~John Maxwell Why is it so easy to eat bad? You can get a 10 piece nugget for $1.49 but a grilled chicken wrap will leave your $10 lighter. Fast food joints don’t want you to think- they make it easy to accept & more difficult to choose hard. A recovering alcoholic said “Drinking is easy, running is hard.” They say nothing comes easy, everything’s hard. I say it’s opposite. Everything comes easy, nothing comes hard because hard is a choice. It’s hard to eat right. It’s hard to keep showing up. It’s hard to push off even though you hurt. Hard is the greatest separator. Will you choose hard? Or will you just let easy come. TSL Post it Note: I’d rather be classified as elite than clumped as average. 🛑Please share this if you find value

If you feel frustrated & stuck it’s because you skipped the line to get a “What” (title, license, business, new job), but you’ve got no why. "The person with their hand always up is going to get promoted before you. They're going to get the office before you. They going to leverage their promotion to a better paying job before you even get a raise. You were better trained, better prepared. But you didn't let the world see that because you were scared. 524. Don’t be so quick to ask for help. Learn how to know what to look for.

I resist the urge to jump in when a young manager asks for help because the only way he’ll learn what to fix is by learning what to look for.

Your growth is tied to your hands on experience. When you’re doing or seeing something new, don’t be so quick to ask for help. Sitting in the tension to figure it out will give you the experience to learn to “see” differently as well as tame the voices screaming Mayday! Abort! In your head.

520. First, be average

520. First, be average

Because average is the base camp of great. So you fell asleep at the wheel...your pants are tighter & your sales are lighter. I bet when I talk to you, you’re telling me how you used to look and live right? And you were soooo close, right? You almost had it going on like “them.” And now look at you. Everything you do is spoken in past tense & present failure which only affirms your mental narrative that you’ll never get back to “once was.” You’re right, you won’t. Because we’re gonna go higher, but first you gotta be average & build consistency by scraping some lines in the sand. Stop comparing yourself to great. Work to be average. First we’re gonna stop the bleeding taking you from a -1 to a Zero...build in some average, then we’ll load the bar. But first you gotta stop bleeding out. Let’s go! 519. Buy your effort another round

In episode 517 we talked about the need for endurance, but let’s skip back to effort again because effort only once is a result, but if you reapply your skills with even more effort, you’ll = achievement. Today we work off of Angela Duckworth’s formula for massive achievement. Talent x Effort = Skill. Skill x Effort = Achievement. People who are less talented than you are doing better than you, not because they work twice as hard- but because they apply effort twice as much as you. 518. Make yourself a part of the conversation.

When comedian Steve Martin is asked his advice on how to be successful it’s pretty simple. “Be so good they can’t ignore you.” Today we’re riffing from @calnewport book “So good they can’t ignore you.” Adopt a “Craftsman’s Mindset” & stop playing against “tha man” & start molding your career. If you keep getting passed over or not even considered for perks or extras...it’s because you’re not even a part of the conversation. Mold yourself into the kind of person that the world can’t ignore you any longer. _______________________________ Text me or leave me a voice mail w/ your thoughts & questions! 337-565-0906 Put your thumbs to work! 👍Share today’s message with someone who needs it. 🔔 Hit the notification button for new daily episodes. 📺 Subscribe to The Sales Life Youtube Channel today! https://www.youtube.com/user/mbuice53 Join the The Sales Life Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/thesaleslifemarshbuice/ 👥 Join The Sales Life Facebook Group for exclusive content. 517. You know about effort, but you forgot about endurance.

New month, new goals, right? With renewed optimism THIS is gonna be your month. To achieve your goals it’s gonna take massive effort...we all know that. Effort = Reward. But what isn’t talked about is it’s gonna take endurance too. Endurance is the ability to stay in the tension for as long as you can, release, aNd quickly jump back in the tension, lengthening your emotional and physical rope. Endurance is your superpower. Not only for delayed gratification but gratification when delayed. David Clark was remembered on Rich Roll’s podcast. Rich played a previous conversation he had with David- his story was amazing to transforming from a 320 lb raging alcoholic who could only run 15 seconds, to one who ran some of those rigorous ultra runs ever. Clark said, “I didn't want to just run a marathon. I want to BE the one who runs marathons.”

There’s a difference between checking a box and saying I did it to one who embodies it all together so that no matter the race, terrain, or obstacles, you will run the race and push through the difficulties to BE the best ever.

513. Have to so you never need to again | Have to = survival. Need to = success

513. Have to so you never need to again | Have to = survival. Need to = success

513. “Need to so you never have to again.” Today is a “heavy have to” for me. There are days where I’m ramped up & excited about the future. But today’s not one of those days. It’s what I call a “heavy have to,” where the obligations weigh you down & call you out. “You want to do what?” & “Be what?” The heavy have to’s will fill you with doubt and make you feel like a fool. But I do what I need to do anyway. See, have to is an obligation, “I have to go to work & pay bills,” but “need to” is an opportunity that feels way beyond have to & because it feels elusive we stay doing what we have to do. Much of your life is spent in have to- surviving to get through another month or year & you never get to need to. Need to is the voluntary, off-line, one more, no one is asking me, kind of mentality. And no one is going to ask you either because they’re living in “have to” as well. You have massive potential & opportunities to unlock, but will you show up and do what you need to do now so you never have to again? _________________________ Put your thumbs to work! 512. It was “in spite of,” not “because of.”

When you look at an athlete, actor, entrepreneur- or anyone who is successful, you often are looking for their advantages & telling yourself that they made it “because of” (their gifts or luck). But their story is just like yours. The story you see today looks like they made it “because of” something unique, but their back story is that they made it “in spite of.” _________________________ Put your thumbs to work! 511. “Expect everything & attach to nothing.”

511. “Expect everything & attach to nothing.”

Benjamin Hardy writes that one of the psychological keys to Kobe Bryant’s success was his refractory period. Your refractory period is the amount of time it takes to emotionally recover & move on from an experience. KB had a short memory. He took the shot and moved on to the next one. The key to being psychologically flexible is to, “Expect everything & attach to nothing.” You lower your expectations because you get lost in the process & accept what is. ...but not any more 😉💪 ——————————— Put your thumbs to work! (Sorry for the audio quality. Experimenting w/ new equipment so I need to tweak it.) On his show Maxed Out, Ed Mylett made an off-hand comment to John Maxwell. “Who would’ve ever thought a preacher could leave his church and go on to become one of the most prolific thought leaders in business (& life), selling over 30 million books.” Maxwell responder, “It doesn’t make sense does it?” I’m sure, taking the leap into the business world over two decades ago & looking back on the millions of lives he’s impacted still doesn’t make sense... Even though it didn’t (& still doesn’t) make sense, Maxwell worked certain. Your senses are robbing you because you are forming a perception (mental map) of your future using what you can currently touch, taste, smell, hear, & see. “It just doesn’t make sense...” _______________________________ Share today’s message with someone who needs it.
