Tim Neumann has a reputation for taking (amongst many things) 'sound' very seriously. On Zoom he has the most impressive mic, for example. I was keen to get him in to the studio we set up to tap him up about all the settings on the Rodecaster Pro we bought. We decided to switch on the system while we chatted even though I was a bit throaty and the expert set about schooling this amateur in a bunch of things about sound related to settings that are adjustable on the podcasting system we have. In here you can hear about: Compression, pumping, phantom power, de-esser, dynamic volume regulation, high pass filter, noise gate, aural exciter, big bottom and flutter echo. Images can be seen in this parallel blog post.

Nick joined the UCL Arena Centre in 2011 from the History of Art department.

He's particularly interested in what role audiences play in shaping what, and how, students learn. He's also particularly interested in the potential that digital environments play in helping students identifying their audiences and communicating their work.

It's Halloween today and In this 'not at all spooky in any way at all' episode, Dr. Alex Standen talks about recording and editing a video in the Arena studio space and then about her role in Arena. Her focus is on two areas of strategic responsibility: Development of Research Supervisors and Leading Change in Education.

Peter Phillips is one of the excellent professional services team that enables the work of the Arena centre. In this brief introduction to Peter he describes hsi role in the HUGE operation that now leads to up 350 UCL staff achieving fellowship each year.

A short introduction to Dr Jenny Griffiths and some of the work she does in the Arena Centre. Jenny worked in Medical Physics research and Engineering Education prior to joining Arena. She has significant experience of developing new cross-disciplinary programmes that embed active and authentic learning and assessments to develop students’ understanding and skills, especially at Postgraduate level.

Martin was chatting with Abbie King about UCL ChangeMakers and other student engagement and collaboration projects in the Torrington Place studio so they decided to switch on the mics. In this episode Abbie explains why she loves this kind of work and an overview of her role in championing active student participation.

This short interview with Pete Fitch is a part of our 'testing the waters' series. In it Pete explains his role in the Arena centre and focusses on his biggest project: Personal Tutoring. He talks about what staff and students can expect and where to find support. This short chat is part of our 'testing the waters' series and is a brief interview by Pete Fitch with Martin Compton, both from the Arena Centre at UCL. Pete asks Martin what he does on a day to day basis and he manages even here to go off on one! He barely mentions the breadth of his work on taught courses, fellowships and his link faculty (Life Sciences) etc but he does get talking about work on modality (especially around the affordance of 'hybrid' teaching ) and also, unsuprisingly, slips in a reference to ungrading. Ben Watson is UCL's Head of Digital Accessibility. I asked him what he does all day. It's great to hear his thoughts on accessibility, how the 'digital' is a key part of that and why working towards improving accessibility is something that we should all prioritise.
