You're wearing the wrong shoes! Learn more about evidence-based OESH Shoes!

Dr. Casey Kerrigan joined us and boy did we get an education on women's shoe wear. Learn about the proper shoe support, or lack thereof, and why it's so important. Plus, you can order your own pair on their website. https://oeshshoes.com/

In our podcast, I reference a great commercial Ford made for International Women's Day. Check it out. https://youtu.be/XrjKDG8gGHI

Dr. Kerrigan is co-founder and chair of OESH Shoes. She is a Harvard M.D., an N.I.H. supported biomechanist, and a lifelong runner since her track star days in high school and college. After publishing numerous medical research studies linking traditional women’s shoes to serious long-term health problems and disability, she gave up her coveted position as the first woman-tenured professor and chair in the school of medicine at the University of Virginia, to develop truly healthy shoes for women. Shunned by the shoe industry for her research, she built her own factory and company, OESH Shoes, where she develops not only the shoes but also the machinery, processes, and materials to make them. OESH is recognized by the National Science Foundation for its sustainable zero-waste 3D printing and 3D knitting processes. Making and selling its first batch of shoes in 2011, OESH has a community of thousands of women who believe that fashion should be dictated, first and foremost, by health.

From pedicures to time alone, self-care is vital.

From pedicures to time alone, self-care is vital.

La Trease Schmidt spent 33 years in the air force reserves. That training helped to fortify her self-worth, but she only joined because of an off-handed comment from her cousin and laughter from her dad saying she couldn't make it in the military. Recently retired, she looks back on learning to love herself in her 20's, earlier than most of us, and taking time to care for herself. She realized that if she didn't take time to find herself and her self-worth, she would forever be lost in the roles that she played. That, coupled with making time to quiet her mind, has helped her to embrace all that she brings to the world, including a loud and fun personality.

Fighting for Your Kids: ADHD, Pot, Suspensions and a Car Crash

Fighting for Your Kids: ADHD, Pot, Suspensions and a Car Crash

Meg, a former collegiate swimmer, a physical therapist who specializes in cranial sacral work, which is so cool we cover it here, and a mother of two, laid it all on the line to save her son from personal destruction.

Sam had always been a difficult child. Colicky when he was a baby and easily distracted. He was diagnosed with ADHD and a slow processing speed. These factors became a problem in high school when he just couldn't keep up with class discussions and the rigor of extended attention. He turned to pot and Meg watched as his life spiraled out of control.

It took a third high school suspension for Sam to finally ask for help. Meg outlines their process to get him help and on the path to high school graduation.

She also talks about how lonely it was, the importance of having a tribe and the ways in which she coped through this difficult time.

Hot flashes! Memory issues. Lower sex drive. Get your menopause answers here from expert Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton.

Hot flashes! Memory issues. Lower sex drive. Get your menopause answers here from expert Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton.

Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton is a menopause specialist. In fact, she's ranked nationally as top in her field.

We are so lucky to have her participate in our podcast and I'm certain you will want to listen to this one several times to get all of the nuggets from peri-menopause symptoms to hot flashes to sex.

The audio in one section of the interview was difficult to hear and we had to cut it out. That segment is important and I don't want you to miss it, so I've included a transcript of the conversation.

When describing painful sex, Dr. Pinkerton discussed something that many women don't know about, levator muscle spasms. "In the vagina, the inside cells narrow and it gets painful. But you also have muscles called the levator muscles. Those are muscles that when you’ve had painful sex [in the past], they spasm. A lot of times women will say, 'It feels like he’s hitting a wall and it feels like he just can’t get past it.' We can actually teach you to relax that muscle and therefore, it opens up the vagina more. We get some estrogen, more connective tissue and we can stretch it. Sometimes we’ll use dilators to help you learn to relax those muscles."

So, if you have pain with sex, you should talk to your doctor about the levator muscle, especially if you've had painful sex in the past.

Want to be a part of cutting-edge treatment? Dr. Pinkerton is leading a clinical trial for a new treatment of menopause symptoms. You can sign up to participate here. www.oasisstudies.com

L2 runs her mouth on LinkedIn and has amassed a following of more than 35,000 doing so!

Lauren Howard is speaking out and won't stop anytime soon.

She's worked in Telehealth and mental health all of her career. More than a year ago, she hit a wall. She had to stop. She didn't know what she was going to do, but she knew she had to slam on the brakes.

What came next surprised her and led to her transformational career change. She's an influencer in a way that she never imagined, which is saying something for this introvert.

She's on a mission to empower women and speak about the elephant in the room.

Here's some more info on her.

Five-time cancer survivor, Mindy Sopher, has a day named after her!

Five-time cancer survivor, Mindy Sopher, has a day named after her!

Mindy Sopher is one of those people you are grateful to know. She's bubbly, enthusiastic, compassionate and just plain fun.

She's also known to deflect praise and credit. In fact, it was hard to get her to acknowledge her accolades and the work she’s done as a professor and college advisor over the last 40 years. But, the Raleigh community and NC State University haven’t taken her lead. The mayor named November 20 as Mindy Sopher Day, the NC State Panhellenic group created the top sorority award in her honor and namesake. She's even had hundreds of former students invite her to their weddings. She’s a humble servant leader and her work shines.

As a five-time cancer survivor who has the most positive attitude, Mindy is a guiding light for everyone. Here is her favorite quote from Kahlil Gibran’s book, The Prophet, “The deeper sorrow carves into your being, the more room there is for joy to fill it.”

Mindy’s message is, “Choose joy as a gift to learn from and live with no regrets.” Listen in on this great interview!
