A Good Life - Part 5 || Ed Beeson

A Good Life - Part 5 || Ed Beeson

What is religion really all about?  For a lot of people, it’s about what you do.  For example, going to church, reading your Bible, praying.  For others it’s about morality, the things you don’t do, such as drinking, foul language, smoking, and sex.  But one of the things that encouraged us to do is treat others right.  We commonly refer to this as “The Golden Rule”.  What does this truly look like and are we. doing it properly?  We explore this in today’s message.

There are approximately 500 verses in the Bible about prayer and 2300 verses about money.  Why do you think this is?  In today’s message we explore how money can have a big impact on our relationship with God.

Do you know how to pray? Do you wish you were better at it? That was the only thing the disciples of Jesus ever specifically asked Him to teach them. Statistically, more people say they PRAY, than the number of people who say they believe in God! How does that work?? Regardless, Jesus teaches His disciples that A Good Life Begins with Prayer

A Good Life - Part 2 || Ed Beeson

Who hasn’t wondered, “Am I Good Enough for God?" But being good enough for God doesn't mean doing more good stuff than bad stuff. You'll never be right with God by going to church more, praying more, reading your Bible more, and cussing less! Being right with God, or being righteous", doesn't mean doing enough to be good enough for Him. So how can we live "A Good Life?" More to the point, how can we live a "righteous life?" We explore this in today's message.

Anxiety has become a pandemic in America. When worry overwhelms us, it affects us physically, emotionally & even spiritually. Ironically, despite all our worrying, it never creates anything positive in life! Even Jesus recognized that anxiety can become a barrier to a productive life. But is there a way to reduce the amount of worry in our lives? We explore this in today's message.

We’ve all heard the saying “Forgive but do not forget” but is that accurate?  The truth of the matter is the way the world operates is on offense while the way we are supposed to operate is on forgiveness.  What does that look like?  How did Jesus teach and model this?  Am I truly forgiven?  We answer these questions in today’s message in our “Life is Short” series.

What do you think the first response is, to the question: “What do you want most in life?” Typically, the response is “I just want to be happy.”  Happiness is something we all want.  We spend a great amount of time and energy trying to achieve it.  The question is, does God want us to be happy?  Is it something that we should pursue?  If we are supposed to be happy how are supposed to get there?

In the 1960s expert testimony was given to a Senate subcommittee about time management. It was believed that due to advances in technology, within 20 years, we would all have a 4-day work-week. The experts testified that if we didn’t cut back, we’d have to start retiring several years sooner. Obviously, that has not happened yet and we find ourselves working harder than ever! The fact of the matter is that we all need rest. In today's message, we explore what God says about rest and what that looks like.

Today it would seem like there is more knowledge than ever. However, wisdom seems to be lacking. People turn to all sorts of things for wisdom to try to figure out how to do life. They turn to smartphones and the internet. We have so many things happening that we question who we can actually trust. How are we supposed to find wisdom in an age where it seems like there is hardly any? Proverbs is loaded with wisdom. But how do we get wisdom? In today's message, we explore that as we realize that “Life is too Short to be Foolish.

It’s common for people to find some parts of the Bible that are hard to believe. Noah’s Ark with a worldwide flood, Jonah being swallowed by a fish, The virgin birth, and even the Resurrection from the dead of Jesus. If you’re not sure you believe in God, it only makes sense that you’d struggle to believe in His miracles. In today's message, we address this as we continue our series, "Life is Short.

Life is too short to get stuck in a rut but know this, Your life CAN change. It’s never easy as our choices become habits that become our lifestyle which often can be an addiction. Addictions are hard to overcome. Sometimes we are talking about undoing decades of habits. Regardless of this with God, we CAN change, it CAN happen!

Got Room This Christmas? - Part 5 - Got Room to Reflect? || Ed Beeson

How have you spent this past week between Christmas and New Years? It’s one of the most unique weeks in the year when everything is in a state of "limbo." People have polar opposite mentalities about the week after Christmas. Some get back into a structured routine, and some are completely checked out with no structure or routine at all! Regardless of which path you take, it is always a good time for reflection. We take some time in today's message to reflect on 2023 as we get ready to move forward into 2024.

Got Room This Christmas? - Part 4 || Ed Beeson

A lot of people are familiar with Luke’s telling of the Christmas Story but when you look at the genealogies in Matthew’s account you will note that there are a lot of people that would cause us to raise an eyebrow with thoughts of scandal.  In today’s Christmas message, we take a look at his to see how God makes room for people that are imperfect, which is exciting news to us.  But likewise, we should make room for imperfect people in our lives.

Got Room This Christmas? - Part 3 || Ed Beeson

As we grow up, we begin to realize that Christmas is not all about "me".  Of course, not everybody understands that.  Not only regarding Christmas but also in life in general.  In today’s message, we look at Herod and other examples to evaluate if we have room for others in our lives.

The older we get, the harder it is to be surprised. But we should have that sense of awe or surprise for the unexpected, especially when it comes from God. In today's message, we ask if we've got room for wonder this Christmas. Do we have the ability to wait in wonder? Do we have the ability to live in wonder?

Got Room This Christmas? - Part 1 || Ed Beeson

As a kid, the thought of no more room at Christmas was probably that of “no more room under the Christmas Tree”, as an adult it may be no more room to eat after being stuffed from a good meal.  Of course, one Thanksgiving hits our lives get so incredibly full of things until the new year comes around.  But does life get so full that there isn’t even room for Jesus?

More Like Jesus - Part 11 || Ed Beeson

Are you one of those people who wish they could just be left alone when you come to church?  It can be easy to isolate yourself and disconnect from others and get caught up in your own selfish ways.  The only problem is that is not how God operates nor is it how He expects us to operate.  If we are to grow more Like Jesus, we are to allow His work to be done in us and through us.

God intends for our faith to make a difference in our lives! Whatever your life was in the past, Jesus can change the hold it has over you. Whatever your life is right now, You have both the responsibility to follow in His steps and with all the uncertainty of the future. Thinking & Living like Jesus will give you peace in the midst of all of that.

In this part of our "More Like Jesus" we take a good look at the issue about Abortion. When the Supreme Court over-turned Roe v. Wade in 2022, they said it was an issue for each state. This Tuesday, the people in our state have the opportunity to vote on the abortion issue. So what’s your “Gut Reaction”? Is what you believe determined by the commercials that run, non-stop? Or is what you believe determined by the agenda & algo-rhythms of a political party? Or perhaps your conviction about abortion is the result of a personal experience. One thing is clear from the Word of God: Everyone in this situation, the women & men involved, as well as the unborn babies, are created in the image of God and are worthy of life and grace.

Philippians 2:5 says, “In your lives, you must think and act like Christ Jesus.”    Scripture also refers to that as ‘Dying to self’ or ‘Being crucified with Christ’. John the Baptist understood what that meant in his life: “He must increase and I must decrease.” What does that truly look like and what does a lifestyle of living that look like?

Have you noticed the “Anti-Social” impact that “Social Media” has on people? Instead of talking to each other, we spend more time on our phones. Sometimes we become keyboard warriors as we try to intimidate others online. It's become quite clear that we need more Jesus and "less me" when it comes to how we interact with others.

It can be incredibly frustrating, to deal with people who think that life revolves around them. However, this frustration frequently reveals that we want their life to revolve around us. In today's message, we approach this conflict by looking to Jesus as our model, for living life the way that God intended.

When you need guidance where to you typically turn? Do you rely on instict? Perhaps a routine? Maybe family members, friends, or coworkers. With Technology maybe it's Siri, Google, or Alexa. How do we seek the proper guidance? In order to look more like Jesus we need to find out where He went for guidance. We explore that in today's message.

When it comes to prayer, we can get super self-conscious about our own inadequacies. We oftentimes don't think we have the right words and sometimes our prayers come out of a selfish - self-serving heart. But the fact of the matter is if we are to be more like Jesus we need to pray. Jesus depended on prayer because Jesus depended on His Heavenly Father.

As Christians, we tend to be sensitive to accusations of “Hypocrisy”, but the reality is that Religious Hypocrites are nothing new. Jesus confronted people who claimed to be right with God but weren’t as they were putting on a show. Isaiah confronted those who honored God with their words but their hearts were far from Him. With this, our own inconsistency with being Christ-like can be overwhelming & intimidate us. But there’s hope for people who want to stop pretending and start living like Jesus. We explore this in today's message.

The World is Still In His Hands - Part 6 || Ed Beeson

We all have that voice that’s a running commentary. The question is what is it that ends up getting stuck in our heads? Sometimes it can be songs or events but it can also be those stupid things that you might have said or something that was said to you. The typical dad advice of "just stop thinking about it" just isn't that simple. In fact, it often makes things worse as we end up fixating on those things. But we have to realize that our thoughts have incredible power. Today as we continue our series and continue in Philippians 4 we take some time to evaluate what it is we are thinking.

Sometimes you look at the world & wonder if God dropped the ball. And that’s why we trust Him. That’s why we listen to Him. That’s why we obey and wait for Him.

God wants to live like Him, every day, with a 24-7-365 type of Consistency. It does nothing to advance the eternal purposes of God if all His people do is meet and talk about Him. Or if His people only talk about Him and never actually live like Him. Of course, we know that these are known as hypocrites! It's interesting to note that the presence of God is best experienced when everyday people truly love God and others. In today's message, we go through this as Paul expressed to the church at Ephesus in Ephesians chapter 5.

247365 - Everyday Christianity - Part 9 || Ed Beeson

Everyday Christianity is seen in our Relationship with Others and Ephesians 4 is not just a picture of the church on Sunday mornings. It’s a picture of the church every day of the week no matter where we are at. As verse 16 of Ephesians puts it. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. But it’s not just a picture of Everyday Religion… It’s a picture of Everyday Relationships! Today we explore what it means how to incorporate this in our daily living.

Life can be overwhelming. Whether it’s because of the expectations & demands of people or circumstances. When that happens, it’s easy to look for someone to blame. Right on cue, Satan starts his whisper campaign to convince us that all of it is God’s fault. This is why it's important that we truly know God. The better that we know Him the more we trust him every day.

We don’t always live every day like good Christians. You can understand why Adam & Eve tried to hide from God after the choice they made. That’s why Romans 5:8 NLT may be challenging… “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” God’s love FOR US and His mercy shown TO US in Christ is NOT ABOUT US… It’s about HIM! It’s not because of WHO we are, WHAT we know, what we’ve ALWAYS DONE, or what we’ve NEVER DONE.

God Expects Us to Live Our Faith Everyday. If our Christianity is just what we do & where we go on Sundays, it has no enduring value. For example, Ohio Memorial Chapel in Tiffin, Ohio. A former church that's now out of business because it forgot to take care of business. We must not only do Christianity on Sunday morning but we need to take it to our communities and live it EVERY DAY!
