Learning to Love Math

By Brittany Roberts

Teaching math is hard; it's even harder when you hate math. Join Brittany from the TeachersPayTeachers store, "Math With Minis," each Monday. Each episode is jam-packed with teaching tips, mental math tricks, and pep talks for teaching math. If you're an upper elementary teacher who's secretly Googling 'how to teach math,' or, 'how to make math fun,' I GET IT. I've been there. And I'm here to help.

Episode 56 | How to Get Paid to Post on Social Media

Episode 56 | How to Get Paid to Post on Social Media

At this point, I've shared about affiliate marketing, selling on TeachersPayTeachers, freelancing, memberships, subscriptions and sooo much more.

In this final episode of the series, I'm tying it all together by sharing how you can get paid (and get some great free stuff!!) by posting strategically on social media.

I'm all about working smarter and not harder!! In the Heart of Marketing Academy, I'm going to show you how you can use the same few pieces of content to make money in several different ways.

This means doing things like repurposing Reels, turning blog posts into Instagram posts, and getting paid to talk about your favorite things.

For hands-on practice with this, be sure to come to the free workshops happening this week at 5pm PST on November 15th and 16th.

Everyone says there's a recession coming. Some are saying that it's already here.

I'm sure you've felt it when getting gas or groceries. I definitely have.

...but imagine how it would feel if things like that didn't scare you.

If you have peace of mind knowing you can make more money anytime, without relying on laws, your school, your district, getting a job that keeps you away from home... it's priceless.

I'm sharing more about this at my upcoming webinars on November 15th and 16th?

Episode 53 | How to Get Started as a Freelancer

Last year, I was able to replace my teacher salary in less than 3 months through freelancing.

It's been a literal GODSEND.

This gave me the security and breathroom to work on things like my TPT store, the blog, this podcast, and other projects (both for fun and for money).

Freelancing gave me the confidence and courage I needed to quit teaching full-time so I can really pursue this online business thing.

If you know you need to make money like YESTERDAY, freelancing could be a path to freedom for you, too.

I LOVE marketing and sales - social media, copywriting, podcasting, video content... it's all so fun to me!

And I know it's not that way for most teachers.

So my hope is to show you that all of this is totally doable, and that I'm here to support you if you decide you wanna be a TPT Seller!

Have you ever done curriculum mapping with other teachers? If so, then you know just how powerful it can be in helping you plan, and helping your students learn according to the standards.

This is definitely a pre-requisite for lesson planning, and a topic that is SO RELEVANT at the beginning of the school year!

If you've never heard of curriculum mapping, you'll get sooo much from this conversation with Melissa Martinez from That One Cheerful Classroom (this is a store follow link on TeachersPayTeachers, by the way).

Kelly shared practical tips for upper elementary teachers who want to bring more S.T.E.A.M. (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) into their math instructional block.

Episode 25 | Here's What Happens When You Mix Math, and Art

Episode 25 | Here's What Happens When You Mix Math, and Art

Imagine if you opened every math lesson by having your students draw a picture.

Do you think that your math instruction might be more effective and engaging if you did that?

We definitely think so!

In this episode, Caroline from Doodles and Digits shares ways to make math more visual for students.

Thankfully, you don't have to be an artist to mix art and math in the classroom.

Today's Takeaways

  • Everyone benefits from a multi-sensory learning approach
  • When you make math more visual, it makes more sense
  • Word problems come alive with pictures
  • Authentic and accurate clipart is important when making or buying visual supports
  • Ensure math word problems are relatable and culturally relevant to students

If you'd rather just get some quality visual supports instead of making your own, click here to follow Caroline from Doodles and Digits on TeachersPayTeachers!

Episode 23 | Classroom Management and "Letting Go" of Control, With Carrie Bickford (Instructional Coach)

Episode 23 | Classroom Management and "Letting Go" of Control, With Carrie Bickford (Instructional Coach)

I can't think of a LESS appealing topic than classroom management. I mean, like, who wants to talk about that?!

But, what if I told you that classroom management was a HUGE missing piece contributing to your students' learning?

What if it's THE missing piece - and, all you have to do, is relinquish some control?

By now, I'm sure some of you are raising your eyebrows at me, thinking, "How can I have a well-managed classroom if I'm not in control?"

Well, I guess you'll just have to listen and find out!!

Today's Takeaways

  • Letting go of control helps your classroom run MORE smoothly
  • Being a good teacher requires a ton of humility and constant self-reflection
  • Just drop the ego (it'll be so much better and easier for you once you do!)
  • Always remember what it was like to be a kid
  • Always be willing to try new things and take risks with teaching
  • We're not really just there to "deliver instruction"
  • Involve students in the learning process; give them plenty of voice and choice
  • Remember to look for and diagnose the cause; don't just temporarily treat the symptoms
  • Don't take any of it personally
