The T-Shaped Engineer

The T-Shaped Engineer

Today we're gonna talk about T-Shaped Engineer. What is T-Shaped Engineer?

T-Shaped Engineer is a person who has a broad high-level overview but at the same time they are able to go deep into the technology, at the code level, and they are able to explain things.

How can we define a T-Shaped engineer?

We can see a T-Shaped engineer if someone is present at various levels of the development cycle. They are good communicators at the very technical level, at the architecture level, at the requirement level, and they can also see the big picture.

Engineering is about communication and as we know, communication is an underrated topic in engineering. We believe that engineering is not only about inventing and solving problems even though if the person is really an expert but if he/she can't communicate properly, then it would be trouble for the team sooner or later. That's why it's very important for a company to have a T-Shaped person.

Automotive Cybersecurity

Automotive Cybersecurity

It's a very exciting episode for you guys! Today we're going to talk about cybersecurity.

With the new era of digitization in the automotive domain, disruption is quite inevitable. Connectivity will make cars more vulnerable to attacks and may take human safety at risk as well. The threat will not be from the driver who is falling asleep, the threat will be from a cyber attacker.

Imagine, instead of COVID-19, the virus was a computer virus and it had crippled the entire network of the globe, it will be doomsday! Customers expect security as part of the vehicle, they don't expect to pay extra for cybersecurity and as we know, automotive in a net is 25 years behind the IT infrastructure.

With that, I have a great opportunity to discuss with Gilad Bandel, the VP of Product, and Marketing at Arilou Automotive Cybersecurity about how automation is gonna influence cybersecurity, how much is the potential of a cyber weapon, how easy it is to hack a vehicle, why the automotive industry is far behind compared to the IT industry, and many more!

LIDAR for Autonomous Vehicle

LIDAR for Autonomous Vehicle

Today, it's all about LiDAR technology! What is LIDAR? LIDAR is the acronym of the term Light Detection And Ranging. LiDAR technology is based on bouncing a spot of light off an object, measuring the time of flight.

And I got the opportunity to talk with Aditya Srinivasan from Innoviz Technologies, we talk about LiDAR technology for autonomous vehicles, Elon Musk's radical viewpoint on LiDAR, Tesla's paradigm about cameras and radars can improve to the extent that you will not need a third sensing modality and many more!

How LIDAR Works?

Most of the LIDAR system works on the time of flight principle, where laser in pulsed form is targeted onto the object and the reflected or the scattered pulse is measured using the detector. By measuring the time difference between the transmitted and reflected pulse, the distance between the objects can be calculated.

Car Hacking in Practice (2020)

Car Hacking in Practice (2020)

In the traditional IT industry, about 80% of the vulnerabilities and the attacks that we have seen are socially engineered.

Anybody can inject the malware into your vehicle and take control of your vehicle theoretically.

There are several possibilities whenever you want to access the vehicle. One is physical access to the vehicle through the OBD2 port and number two is remote access.

The holy grail of car hacking is to get to the CAN bus of the vehicle which is the actual network of the car where you control everything.

In this video, Our CEO Dr. Hasan Ibne Akram, and the Matrickz team are going to show a setting that we will have remote access to the vehicle, and then we will inject the malware that is allowing you to communicate with the vehicle and in our case, we have simulated the malware using the Raspberry Pi, connected to the OBD2 port so that you can access the CAN bus.

Human Behavior Prediction for Autonomous Vehicle (2020)

Human Behavior Prediction for Autonomous Vehicle (2020)

The technology around us is influencing how people behave and react socially with each other, like the mobile phone, computer, internet, camera, autonomous vehicle, and etc.

As technology continues to evolve, we will be able to use that to predict human behavior through cameras or other sensors and implement those in autonomous vehicles in order to make the vehicle safe and secure.

The "human behavior prediction" technology will not only protect the driver or the passengers inside the vehicle, but also the pedestrians and other road users.

Of course, it's a big challenge for the automotive industry and for the OEMs to implement that in the vehicle because whenever a human is driving, the human is perfectly capable of making a good prediction about what's gonna happen with the pedestrian while we still don't know the capabilities of this technology when applied in autonomous vehicles.

Listen to the stimulating discussions between our CEO, Dr. Hasan Ibne Akram, and Leslie Nooteboom, Co-founder & Chief Product Officer of Humanising Autonomy about human behavior prediction for the autonomous vehicle.

Autonomous Vehicle Safety (2020)

Autonomous Vehicle Safety (2020)

There are 3 technologies that gonna change the industry once and for all, Autonomous vehicles, Connected Vehicles, and Electrification of vehicles.

And when we talk about autonomous vehicles, the pace of the automotive industry is somewhat slow compared to others in the last 20 years. But in the last decade, we have seen a little bit of the catalytic effect in this industry and Autonomous Vehicle is definitely moving the automotive industry faster.

There will be a good chance that the idea of owning a vehicle will be obsolete. In the future, people will use their vehicles like an app to move from point A to point B, be it the autonomous vehicle or a drone. Not only that, the safety mechanism and the lifespan of these vehicles will not be 20 years anymore. Because of these changes, there will be new safety challenges in the autonomous vehicles sphere.

Listen to the stimulating discussions between our CEO, Dr. Hasan Ibne Akram, and John Maddox, the senior director - autonomous safety and compliance at Lyft.
