My Secret Life With An Eating Disorder

My Secret Life With An Eating Disorder

By Maureen Kritzer-Lange MSW, LCSW

I'm Maureen Kritzer-Lange a Psychoanalyst specializing in Eating Disorders (The Queen of Self Esteem & creator of the “Don't Trust the Mirror” Movement). This is my personal story of my struggles with an eating disorder. I thought it would take my life. I had nobody to talk to so I began journaling while in high school. In my podcast I share stories from this journal and then use my psychoanalyst perspective to reflect on my “younger” self. My life mission is to help women get their lives back. I lived it, I breathed it and now I have the courage to talk about it.

EP 64 Inner Peace, Outer Confidence: Yoga's Impact on Body Image and mental health | with Christina Helms

Christina is the co-owner of Three Birds Yoga studios in South Orange and Florham Park, NJ. In addition to teaching yoga and meditation classes and co-facilitating teacher trainings, she is also a Licensed Social worker. Whether it's working with yoga students in the studio or clients in the therapy room, Christina uses anintegrative approach that combines western, evidence-based therapies with the ancient wisdoms of mindfulness and self-compassion.

Everything in our external world, and even our thoughts change us constantly and are impermanent. But that there's a part of us that we call, like, the true self, right. That's not impacted by what we see in the mirror, external events or even thoughts. We start to learn how to separate from those things and sort of tap into this. Sometimes we call it the soul. Sometimes we call it the true self. For some people, it's a connection with the divine, but that's the only thing that is unchanging. And also in terms of just being in your body, too is being a feeling of being grounded. That's a big part of it, like feeling your feet, the ground. The more we can move away and down from the mind and the thoughts and into the feeling of being in our body and feeling grounded.

EP. 56 Floral Whispers: Unlocking Nature's Healing Secrets | In Conversation with Carolyn Meeker

Owner & Founder Carolyn Meeker Wubbenhorst began growing the roots of Wubby Designs at the age of 6, when she became an apprentice to her father—a horticulturist, certified tree expert, and artist—in the gardens he tended near their home in New Jersey. At this early age, she learned the art of hand pruning trees, and planting flowers and shrubs, plus the importance of family and collaboration.

As an adult, under the tutelage of Martha Stewart Living, Carolyn learned first-hand the importance of good design and getting it right the first time, ensuring that every Wubby Designs project is practical to your lifestyle (while being pretty, too, of course). This is also where she learned how to grow a business and how to cultivate the future using only her creativity and a respect for the beauty of the environment. This understanding of the natural world combined with a love of design and all things creative is what sets Wubby Designs apart.

MAKING YOU HAPPY

We love what we do and would love to help you beautify your space!

WUBBY DESIGNS is a multifaceted business dedicated to beautifying the world and putting a smile on our customers face. Wubby Designs create container gardens for homes, holiday decorations, and fine gardening.

EP. 47 Transforming Pain into Resilience: An Eating Disorder Story of Hope | In Conversation with Scarlett O'Connor

A 47-year-old mother of 7 who battled severe binge/purge anorexia for 25 years. Despite being an overweight child/teen, she chose life after being admitted to a treatment facility 9 years ago. Now, she is dedicated to help others using my own recovery method as a qualified therapist.

"I aim to raise awareness about the severity of binge/purge eating disorders, which are often overlooked compared to anorexia. The shame and embarrassment associated with bulimic behaviors hinder people from seeking treatment. I also advocate for including male sufferers in treatment approaches and data.

Having experienced the addictive and destructive cycles of bingeing and purging for 6 hours a day, I understand the toll it takes. Throughout my eating disorder, I battled depression, anxiety, and psychosis, damaging my teeth and losing years of my life and career.

After hitting rock bottom, I developed my own recovery method, which now helps others. While everyone's recovery journey is unique, I believe that more discussions about bulimia and binge/purge eating disorders are needed. Self-love is personal and individual, and not everyone will have the same level of outward confidence." - Scarlett O'Connor

I want to talk with you about vacations. The good, the bad, the  stressful and the fun of vacations. Let's talk about those things that  people never talk about vacations. One of the things that I was thinking  about is vacations are kind of like holiday dinners. And the reason I  say that, is that around the holidays we all have this expectation for  things to be all perfect, like a Hallmark commercial or like on  Facebook.

EP. 29 Reinventing myself this past year - A look back

It has been a year since I started recording my podcast "My secret life with an eating disorder" and today I wanted to just take a look back and reflect on the past year and how it all got started for me, shares on my thoughts and my insights with you about my Podcast. It initially started because I wanted to get out of my office, not that I don't love seeing patients in my office I absolutely do but I feel like I had a really important message to share with women about feeling good about themselves. About healthy self esteem, positive body image, I really wanted to help women feel better about themselves and in some way save their life like my life was saved when I went to a therapist.

Ep.27 Ketogenic Wellness and nutrition - In Conversation with Gintare Balseviciute

Ep.27 Ketogenic Wellness and nutrition - In Conversation with Gintare Balseviciute

In conversation with Gintare Balseviciute a Certified Ketogenic Wellness and nutrition coach.

All  her life she was interested in nutrition and always have been a healthy eater. She is that type of person who never orders take away or buys precooked meals. When she moved to another country to live in my early 20's she discovered different cultures with different types of cuisines. Also, she started to notice that by tasting and trying new food she started to gain weight. This was something new to her and she started to go deeper into the nutrition side. This is where her true passion was born and she ended up focusing on. She needed to understand what  needed to happen to stop her weight gain. And in the last few years her world was shaken when she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and as a side effect she started to gain weight, it was hard for her to control it considering she is a nutritionist coach.  It took a while to figure out what was working and how she maintained it. So now she is on a mission to help women with their weight loss who've been affected by hypothyroidism.

Ep.21 Connecting with your Body - In Conversation with Suzanne Blackburn

Ep.21 Connecting with your Body - In Conversation with Suzanne Blackburn

A conversation with Suzanne Blackburn regarding the empowerment of women. You are an inspiration to me and what you do and how you bring such positivity and empowerment to women's challenges which is part of my own movement. Which we all struggle with and I think in many different ways on many different levels.

Suzanne has been a social and political activist for decades. She was a longtime volunteer with Equality Maine working on two state campaigns to legalize same-sex marriage/ Suzanne is also a volunteer with Maine Adaptive's winter sports program.
For more than 20 years she has been involved with The Body Electric School, an organization that hosts programs aimed at affirming the sacred in the erotic. Her vision is to help people reclaim their essential Eros and life and to live wholeheartedly with apology.Suzanne is also a kayaking instructor working on the coast of Maine. "Working with people on the water isn't so much different than working with people in life-affirming rituals. The tools look different but it's all about opening to pleasure,  feeling fully alive in our bodies, breathing deeply, and giving gratitude for the richness of the world we live in.Suzanne is the author of Reclaiming Eros which gives us an intimate look into the evolution and motivation of healers who work with the power of erotic energy.

EP.20 The Bridge - Maureen Kritzer-Lange MSW, LCSW

EP.20 The Bridge - Maureen Kritzer-Lange MSW, LCSW

I started writing again and wanted to share with you my latest poem. The themes are the same for me now as they were back then, but now I write them from such a different perspective. Back then I was this lost girl suffering from an eating disorder, unsure of my future and lost in a big world trying to figure out how to be an adult.

Today when I still write about feelings, it comes from a place of a woman who has had a successful career helping others deal with their eating disorders. It comes from a woman who knows who she is, where she sits and what her life is about, at least most of the time. And well, my life is still evolving as we all are right now from the perspective of looking back and having so many experiences to include in my thoughts.

EP19. Hitting Home - Maureen Kritzer-Lange MSW, LCSW

I want to talk today about a story that really hit home for me back in 1983. It brought an awareness to my life and it made me feel like I wasn't so alone with my eating disorder. It might date me a bit but, that's OK I've been very open about the fact that my eating disorder started over 40 years ago back when I was in high school. Today I want to share with you how Karen Carpenter impacted my life.
